Of course...did I really expect any less?

*sigh* literally, the last. freaking. day.

Oh, Apple...Apple...=(

Considering that the press release said the iPad's "will be delivered to customers on the 30th" seems to imply that they will be arriving in our hands on Friday the 30th rather than being shipped out on the 30th as some posts here seem to indicate.

Just curious.

so when are they in apple stores? May 7th?

Also, does anybody have a rumor about some 3rd party video camera. now that the iphone seems (if the leaks are true) to get a front facing camera it seems apple is getting into video phones. It would be ironic if the iPad would not have any chance to do video skype.

i was speaking to an apple expert:

I wish some people here would chill out about the technicality of what's considered "Late April". Stop being big babies, at least Apple didn't delay it to next month. I want an iPad 3G too but I'm not trippin' over it. There are other things going on that I have to put serious focus to and not just sit here and bitch that Apple said "Late April" but instead they're shipping at the end of April, how dare they deceive us?

I would think that since Apple isn't rolling these thing out in Europe 'til May 2010, you probably can't get it at a place in the U.S., other than an Apple store, before June 2010.

Don't forget Best Buy. The wifi model was available from day 1 at Best Buy as well. Due to the physical store timed release of the 3G, however, they may not have it at Best Buy on launch day, but perhaps very soon after.

Yea what do people expect for late April the 18th? Late April is LATE April :)
Good point. I cannot believe I have sit here reading three pages of people repeating that April 30 is late April. It is raining and so I don't want to go out, but I feel like I have lost a half hour on this thread. Mine will arrive on the 30th so until then I will make do with my WiFi only iPad. Will be the wifes on April 30th, I promised it to her by late April you see.

Nope.

My local Best Buy had over 100 of the WiFi models on launch day. My guess is that they will have about the same number. Even if they don't have that many, I'd be shocked if they don't have any.

My local BB does have an Apple section staffed with an Apple employee, so that may make a difference.

i posted a email earlier in the post with apple representatives stating that the iPad 3g will be available on April 30th at Best Buy.

Finally!

Its about time they give us a date. And boy were they serious about the "end of April" thing. Anyway, ive been waiting for this and ill be counting down the days till I get mine. :D
Im surprised Apple didnt do a "reserve your iPad now" like they did with the Wifi vers.

That Was Predictable!

I knew this was going to happen and I penciled in April 30th as my iPad 3G's shipping date on my wall calendar weeks ago. When Apple said "late April" they definitely meant "LATE April" - their range deadlines always fall at the very end of the spectrum and I just wish that, for once, they were early.

I really think it would have been better for Apple's business to have released the 3G version first, if anything, to tempt the buyers who wanted it right away to get the higher-end version despite their need for the Wifi-only version. But who knows - maybe AT&T wasn't ready (that's my most likely theory on the release decision because we know how AT&T is about bandwidth).

I just hope Apple had the time (and/or the desire) to fix a lot of the Wifi bugs and other issues from the initial Wifi release on the 3G version in these weeks between the two models. I realize that's unlikely because that stuff usually takes far more time to test but I'm hoping.

"Late April" - you cannot go later than that.

Apple said it would ship in late April. Since it will be arriving on Apr. 30, it will be shipping the 26th or 27th. Why get upset because they hit a deadline?

When was the last time your beloved Microsoft hit a deadline?

Apple misses a date ... people complain
Apple hits a date range ... people complain

so confused by people.

Some of the people here live to bash Apple. If they have nothing to bash Apple for, they make absurd expectations - and then whine when they aren't met. After all, when Apple said 'late April', why wouldn't you expect it on April 16?

I just hope when they do ship it that somehow its indicate which courier is used (FEDEX or UPS) and what time of day it will arrive. Ideally, I'd like to only take the morning off -- but sometimes the delivery windows for these services can be wide.

Apple provides a tracking number when it ships. So, by around Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, you'll be able to track your iPad.

so when are they in apple stores? May 7th?

April 30. Did you bother to read the report?

That might explain the bump from 32mb to 64mb. It does NOT explain or excuse the bump from 16GB to 32GB for $100!

Since when are selling prices determined by commodity costs? After all, a 2.6 GHz i7 chip has LESS silicon than a 20 MHz 286, so it should be cheaper, right?

The price is determined by what the market will bear. Since most reports are that the higher end ones are selling at least as well as the 16 GB ones, the market thinks it's worth $100 more.

I am justs glad we finally have a shipping date. The not knowing was bothering me, but with having a delivery date now the anticipation is lessened for me.

funny thing is this ipad is the exact same, only cheaper than my wifi ipad using my portable wifi hotspot that I like to call "my iphone 3gs", and will be even better that it with the 4g EVO, sprints 4g portable wifi or if the new iphone supports 4g.

What part of late april did people not understand.

It was a given it would be the last day of April

I pretty much figured it would be the last possible day in which Apple could still call it late April. Perhaps they would have been better off saying the end of April. Either way, I am happy to finally have a date announced.

I hope they don't ship Fed Ex. Whenever I have a shipment from Apple, it seems like the Fed Ex guy watches the office, waiting for me to leave and then delivers the package when I'm on the road. This means I can expect to have my iPads on May 3 when I come back in to work. At least they aren't getting delivered on Saturday. Then, I'd have zero change of getting it that day.

Now I'm glad I gave them my work address for shipping. I've been terrified that they would plan for Saturday delivery, which would screw me since there's nobody at my office on the weekends.

Otherwise I would have to get in line and wait till 5:00 p.m. on a weekday?
The first iPhone release in the U.S. was at 5:00 on a weekday, and lots of people lined up.

Any word if that camera usb port dongle will allow for tethered shooting?
If works anything like the old camera connection kit that was available for a certain generation of iPods (the first hard-drive iPods that also had color screens), the answer is no. (I still keep that old iPod and the camera connector just for the purpose of taking it on trips to store photos. I love it, and have never understood why they haven't offered it for other iPods since then).

i just may have to get one of these, but the 3g plan with at&t is to expensive.
It's the cheapest 3G data plan available from any U.S. carrier. And no contract is required.
