Ok, so I called up Apple and gave them a piece of my mind. They said that whoever expedited the order selected the wrong option and it knocked me further down in the line of queues. She said that the shipping upgrade to Next-Day should not have been processed that way and she said to make good on their mistake she wants to send me a smart cover. I turned it down because I already have one. She asked what I wanted instead. I asked her to knock off -$50 from the cost of the iPad. She put me on hold and talked to her manager. I spoke with the manager and told her what happened and she said she has gone ahead and reduced the price of the iPad from $829 to $779.

Delivery date is still Nov 21 but at least I just saved $50

See below for the screen shot:

I called because I think they delayed my order because they changed shipping to 2-3 days. He said there's nothing he could do and asked if I want to cancel my order. I called his bluff and said yes, but he just cancelled it. Good thing I ordered online this morning for pickup. No free cover or discount. Now they want me to return it with a shipping label after I receive it.

Delivery date now Nov. 26!

Hard to believe. It finallyshippped las night, but there's an exemption as it didn't "make the Fed Ex cut-off.". I ordered early on Preorder day and now my IPad isn't due to be delivered for 11 days after they arrived in stores..

I can't remember the last update I gave you guys, so if I backtrack, forgive me. The last time I called Apple I spoke to some guy who said because it was the fourth business day, he would give me next day shipping free of charge. Well, it still didn't ship that night, so I called back the next morning and spoke to another guy who said the other guy told us a bold faced lie. He transferred me to his supervisor and the supervisor credited me back for my smart cover and ear pods which doesn't even put a dent in anything but whatever. Now it's end of the fifth business day and my iPad still hasn't shipped. The supervisor says to wait until tomorrow morning to make sure it doesn't ship out late tonight. I agree, reluctantly. Wake up yesterday, still no shipment. He calls me back and says he has to escalate this up the chain and get another department involved and that he'll let me know where it's at later today. That's fine. At 5:30 he calls and says he can't do anything and that the department he contacted is completely unwilling to help in any way so all we can do is wait for it to ship. I'm beyond furious at this point. Finally last night around 9 my iPad shipped. But it's delivery date has been pushed even further out. Instead of the original 23rd estimated delivery, when it shipped it said it won't be here until the 27th. This is the worst experience I have ever had with Apple. I'm never pre-ordering again.

My order finally shipped too! Its sad I'm not even that happy about it anymore....it shipped after the 7th business day and it always said delivers by 11/21, now the shipping email says 11/26, if I seriously have to wait another week I'll be so upset. FedEx says by 11/23 but the whole point was to get it by thanksgiving, ugh.

It really is unacceptable and un-Apple like, that Preordered IPads are not being delivered for possible 10 days or greater after they are available in the store. People shouldn't have to call and complain. When delivery dates are slipping this much, Apple, in my opinion, should be reaching out to the consumers and offering some form of discount/credit.

Many of us got up and ordered at 3AM. We should be receiving it on the day it hits the stores and NO later.

Mine is in NJ as of today still with a Tuesday delivery. I suspect Fedex will move nothing until Monday but at this time of year I would expect them to be moving shipments 24by7...oh well.

Update

decided that I wanted to pick it up in store. was told by one CSR that they would still honor the $779 price ($50 discount for my issues) and allow me to use the $45-off coupon code. i got disconnected in the middle of placing the order. called back, then they refused to honor it. good thing i kept the name of the CSR who made that promise. i spoke with the senior customer service manager who said that it is impossible to get another $45 off the already discounted iPad. she said the best she can do is offer me a smart case or smart cover and also allow me to keep the coupon code, as long as i agree not to cancel the order. i said i want an extra Lightning cable instead (i already have a case). she said it is company policy that they are not to give out free Lightning cables, but she said once i get the free case i can take it into the Apple store and exchange it for cables or chargers, etc.

this entire experience has been one hell of a crapfest. the only person to blame is myself really, in the end. when that thread was on the FP of MacRumors how people could request next-day delivery and get it on Nov 16, i jumped on that opportunity. it was due to that order change that bumped me down in the queue to the point where i wouldn't get it for an entire week after that. the CSR's didn't know this in the beginning so they were doing it for people, but then they started to warn people about changing the order which results in delays. oh well, it's a lesson learned i guess. this entire experience has put a bad taste in my mouth about pre-ordering since there aren't any clear advantages with the recent roll-outs Apple has screwed up lately

I never asked for expedited delivery. I only called to ask if there was a problem that it hadn't shipped within the 5 days and that others had already ha them delivered or were scheduled no later than Monday. I was offered a free case but no change in shipping speed. After hanging up I noticed that the case was 2-3 day delivery and that the IPad's delivery date had moved from the 23rd to the 21st.

It looked like the iPad may have made it here early in the week but per Fed Ex tracking, it was received "after FedEx cutoff." Interestingly the case seems to still be in China but at "International Shipping Release," and is still scheduled for Tuesday Delivery.

I still think Preorders are generally the way to go. It definitely was with the 2nd and to a lesser degree the 3rd gens. Something really seemed to be off with this release. Probably has to do with the mini being offered at the same time and it was not typical for them to have different release dates for WIFI versus LTE. I am just hoping that the higher-ups are aware of these issues. Apple has always put a lof into presentation (ie what the packaging looks like). This type of service takes a lot of the excitement out of receiving the products and is counter to their traditional philosophy.

Mine was also received "after FedEx cutoff" late last night. It's still stuck at that Chengdu location though, with an even later estimated delivery date of the 26th. I'm still going to wait it out since it's not a huge problem (just a first world problem* I suppose), but the lesson I've learned through this is: unless engraving, it's better to just wait and attempt to pick up an iPad in store.

Apple preorders for me have always been a much more pleasant experience, with products arriving on time, or more often than not, earlier than expected. I will still preorder items from their store, especially BTO Macs. Anything "stock", I think I'll do in-store order/pickup going forward.

*And yes, I'm bummed that I no longer have Thanksgiving weekend to set up and play with my new iPad and will have to stick a signed paper on my door to receive it while I'm at work.

My iPad is listed as th 26th for delivery as well. I was just pointing out that it was interesting that the case, while still in China, is scheduled for Tues, 21st delivery.

First wold problems for sure. I am thankful this holiday season that I am blessed enough to have the means to get upset over later delivery of an $829 non-essential item.

Hope your Turkey Day is happy and safe - iPad or no.

I understand. Well, I understand your point of view; what I don't understand are all the delivery estimates and how this I think is the first Apple botched up preordering. Isn't Tim Cook supposed to be a master of the supply chain?

Anyway, I hope your Thanksgiving Day is amazing as well, sans 4th gen iPad. I've got my 1st and 2nd gen iPads to hold me over until I have that Retina screen in my hands (well, besides the iPhone 5 and rMBP). I even had to pair the Zagg Keys Pro Plus keyboard/case I got a couple weeks ago specifically for my new iPad to my old iPad 2...

I'm on the same boat as some of you guys. Placed order on Oct.26 for iPad 4 64gb Verizon LTE, upgraded delivery and was suppose to get it on the 16th, then 21st but now I'm set to receive it on Monday the 26th.

Called Apple to see whats up and they offered $50 credit + Smart Case so that totals about $100. By no means did I haggle or give them any static, I never even mentioned any recompense for the trouble.

I gotta say I'm really happy and dont mind waiting the extra days now. They managed to get me excited again because atleast I'm able to say, hey I got a good deal. I'm sure part of it has to do with the fact that my iphone 5 arrives on Tuesday so I'll have one toy to keep me busy over the Thanksgiving weekend, but still, Apple, thank you :)

I wish you guys fun times with your new cool iPads and for those of us that are having to wait longer, we'll have our toy soon.

If anyone has a legitimate reason to call Apple because of these missed shipping dates, feel free to go ahead. Wouldn't recommend treating the Apple reps badly however, they are all so nice.

I'm living in Hong Kong and ordered mine on Oct. 30th and have a delivery date of Nov. 22nd at the earliest with shipping happening in 3-5 Business days (from Saturday when it was updated).

Before Saturday it just listed as "Late November." I do know they are released later here than in the USA, but it's shipping sooner than I thought.

When I ordered my iPad 2, I bought it from the USA store, shipped it to my mom in the USA, then she shipped it back here. Was funny watching that tracking go from China, to Hong Kong, to the USA then back to Hong Kong. This time I ordered directly from the Hong Kong Apple website.

Can't wait to get my new iPad 4 -- ordered the black 32GB GSM iPad

64GB LTE iPad 4 (black), ordered November 1st.

Order shipped on November 17th, slated for delivery on the 26th. Which kinda sucks, because that date has been slipping further and further back. It was supposed to be here by this Friday, now I've got another weekend to wait. I'm not too upset, I need to be patient - I believe this device will be totally worth the wait, but I'm really hoping to see it here by Friday anyway.

Yeah I hope so too.....Apple's email said the 26th but Fedex has me for this Friday :) I still have hope I get it Wednesday, mine has been sitting in China all weekend, but my smart cover case just arrived a day earlier then Fedex gave me, and if you look back at the rest of the thread this happened to a lot of people who got their iPads earlier then the delivery date listed on the website. Of course thanksgiving is a holiday so I'm not counting on it....just hoping. It would have to ship out of China by tonight or early tomorrow to happen.

Apple messed up and should've done the mini release in the spring. They tried to release too many products all at once constraining suppliers. If mini had come out in the Spring, you'd likely see less issues with Apple being able to keep up with demand. They released when they had something to release and you can't fault them for that.

Well it's the middle of the night in Chengdu now, so who knows... I haven't been this excited about getting a new product since I bought my iMac in 2009.

What did you order?

I ordered an AT&T 64 GB black iPad 4 on 10/26 11 AM. I got 2-3 day shipping by calling Apple and it was scheduled for the 21st. Now it's the 20th. I guess AT&T iPads were shipped late.

Delivered on 19th.

Deliveries arrive on the next business day after the CHENGDU CN in transit date. The in transit date of 16th in China showed on the 15th in the US, so it was two business days later with 2-3 day shipping.
