The iPad 2 was a major refinement of the iPad 1 with the necessary improvements to keep it lasting longer. This is what the iPad 4 will be to the 3.

After a few iOS updates people will begin to notice that with the ipad3 devoting so much of its resources and processing power to the retina display it will begin to lack as the iPad 1 did. Overall just a reduction in speed and smoothness.
The iPad 2 will last quite a while because it has more than what it needs to support its resolution, as well as have plenty of power to give to future iOS versions. The iPad 3 will begin to lack and the ipad4 will once again iron out the problems of the ipad3 and create another long time stable device that can support both retina display as well as later more resource demanding firmwares.

Too long didn't read: The iPad 3 will become frustrating to use because of lack of power and the next gen iPad will have the required supplements to keep running for much longer.

Lighter about 1lb in weight
Quad core processor
32,64,128gb of storage
Better FaceTime front camera
Same battery life
Same screen
It would be nice if they put the speaker on the front. The speaker placement is my biggest issue.

Not much else they can do.

Would love to see some kind of 3D implementation. Would be great for iOS and gaming. Then I can watch movies like Avatar, Cave of Forgotten Dreams, and Prometheus on an Apple device in 3D.

Over heating issue? There is just a heating up issue (which isn't an issue, it's normal for electronics) not an OVER heating issue.

For OP, get a hobby the i3 just came out a week ago.

You obviously haven't installed infinity blade II yet...

Why is everyone bitching about the over heating problem. I read something where I think it was cnet tested the iPad and said while it got slightly warm it was opporating well within the normal limits. But better battery would be cool like a 15-20 hour but that is just a dream. lol

a lot of the speculation seems legit in this thread, IMO it will basically become more efficient. It could also follow the steps of the the iphone and adopt the iphone 4 deisign.

Why are we talking about the the next iPad???

Enjoy the current one people! I'm so tired of rumors and speculation. If I wanted to read about rumors all day I'd pick up a copy of the National Enquirer.

So the OP can tell all his friends during lunch period he started the first thread about the iPad4.:D

I just got mine two days ago on launch day for us. Upgraded from an original iPad. Hard to see much improvements in the next gen and certainly won't be enough to make me upgrade. This new iPad is simply superb

They need to fix the battery life and heat issues... Also bring down the weight to something managable

do you even own one??? Firstly they do not get that warm, secondly the battery life is the same as iPad 2, thirdly the weight is almost identical.

1. they do get warm. everyone reports this. it depends on how warm you think is significant. even iPhone gets warm.

2. the battery behaves differently. takes longer to charge. charging diminishes when in use.

3. the extra weight is noticeable.

4. don't assume that what's acceptable for you is what's acceptable for someone else

Was just thinking - what do you guys think the iPad 4 might bring?

I'm actually asking cause from using the iPad 3 I can't see them topping the retina display. As an iPad 2 owner now having upgraded to the iPad 3 I can definetely tell the screen is way crisper.

Do you think the iPad 4 will bring something new to the table or a new design maybe?

Even tho it's a year away it could be fun to speculate. Just wondering what people think. :apple:

You're already thinking of the 4 just days after the 3rd generation release?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

They really need to give it a proper name. If they properly call it the iPad 4 and change nothing else, I'd probably upgrade. ;)

Do we really need one of these threads already? If so, then I may as well start threads about the horrible yellowing screen issues for the iPad 4th gen now.

whaaa

Why do you guys always bitch and moan when someone speculates about the future? I thought that that was the purpose of Macrumors. Asking about what the 2015 iPad might bring would be over the top, but what is wrong with thinking about the next generation when the newest iPad isn't a mystery anymore?

Dun do dat.

This is Macrumors, not iPadrumors.

how true.

It will come attached to a St. Bernard that runs away from you every time you try to use the iPad. It will also have a quad core processor.

  • They might improve the screen (better angles, lower power usage, etc), i think this is not all that likely for the 2013 model tho.
  • 4-Core CPU and better GPU
  • Faster way to charge (MagSafe)
  • Faster sync speed (USB3 or Thunderbolt, or both)

I'm gonna say

4gigs of RAM for those graphic intense games
12core GPU/CPU to keep it running smooth
Completely Indestructable
Flat and as light as a sheet of paper, but unbendable (save bending for 5th gen)
Ability to project video into mid air
Feed homeless African children
Print legal money

There's my list, I suspect at LEAST half will be implemented, I have a very reliable inside source.

-quad core Apple A6 chip
-128 GB option
-8 MP iSight camera
-FaceTime HD
-Siri

lol didn't the new iPad just come out?
