iPad 5 in Spring?

Who came up with these "release" or "refresh" cycles anyway? Has Apple come out and confirmed these, or are these just people's wild donkey speculations based on prior releases?

It's expected because it's been habitual for Apple. There's no confirmation though, and basically no one really knows the dates until a week before they happen.

There is no ill intent hinted anywhere in my posts. Financial success is all but a natural goal for a company. Everything else works as means to achieve that. If someone thinks ANY company puts ANYTHING else before making money, I would call him innocent.

Mind you that I am talking about the company as a whole, not any individual. It can of course be a totally different story for individuals.

Many of you say that Apple will not release another iPad this spring. They've already replaced their current offering way before their regular cycle. I've also noticed that the iPad 4 has the same design as the old one. I'd assume, they'd want to make it look a bit more like an iPhone 5. Black and Natural options for aluminum, chamfered edge, all metal buttons just like the mini. Am I wrong?

I'm just glad I got the reburbed iPad 3 for 379 direct from Apple. I sold my ipad 2 on ebay for 380, so I basically got a free retina upgrade! I wouldn't buy the ipad 4 cause i have a feeling they are gonna come out with a fully redesigned ipad 5 in March that's probably lighter and slimmer than the ipad 2/3/4's. That same design will be two years old by then so I'm pretty sure its gonna go through a full redesign.

The technology Apple needs to produce the iPad 5 won't be available by next spring.

The TSMC 20nm process that Apple is using for their next-generation, quad-core CPU won't support mass production until the second half of next year. Apple can't even begin to start building the device before July or August, at the earliest. Hence, there won't be a new iPad with a significantly faster processor for another year.

Apple could re-release the current design in a new form factor with a more power-efficient IGZO screen, but a mid-year release which gives us the same thing we have now with a slimmer bezel doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I think Apple got it right with the 3 and made some upgrades and decide to call it the 4. So this is the one to buy and not worry about what's coming next.

There's no reason to update in March/April now. They had several good reasons to update the iPad now, alongside the Mini.

However, if they update in March there's no real benefit, and the timing is bad.

They had a pile of reasons to update now:

-Sub-par performance on iPad 3
-Screen issues on iPad 3
-Heat issues on iPad 3
-New Lightning Connector
-Line unification
-Freeing up the March/April keynote for other things
-Bringing the iPad event into the early school year
-Bringing the iPad event into the holiday season

I think it's a one-time thing. In fact, I so firmly believe it that I bought an iPad 4. I'm sure in March that my gamble won't seem like it was a gamble at all.

Hi!! Its me again with real actual information for you again to help you get out of delusional world. Ran across a nice article this am going through my usual feeds.

This is still the best display you'll find on a tablet. We went on and on about Retina in our review of the third-gen iPad and while we'll spare you the soliloquy this time, we will say that the Retina display in the new iPad still looks fantastic.

At the time, the third-gen iPad was the fastest we'd tested. The new iPad skips directly past its predecessor's Ludicrous speed and goes directly to Plaid.

In case you were wondering, yes, it still got quite warm when running through the gamut of tests. We don't consider this to be a concern by any means, but if you found the toasty nature of the third-gen iPad distasteful, you're likely to encounter the same heat here.

I think personally they wanted to re-align to an october timeframe so that they can get the new processor out in the iPhone before coming over the iPad.

In HINDSIGHT clearly the A5X (and ipad 3rd gen) was a temporary fix, pushed out to fill an 19 month gap between the iPad 2 and iPad 4, and Apple cleverly and cunningly dropping the 'year of the ipad' marketing and even dropping the 'iPad 3' numbering system, were evidently paving the way for refreshing it after the iPhone 5 release. They simply just never had the A6 processor ready in March (or Feb when they went into production).

Apple will be a happy now they can push these out just in time for christmas each year and that will cause a whirlwind of consumer interest at the biggest shopping time of the year.
