A clock speed increase is 100%. As for the GPU; the iPad will be using a G6630 which is an even bigger increase that that of the one in the iPhone 5S(G6430).
I'm not so sure that a clock speed increase is 100%. Firstly, the A7 in the iPhone 5s is said to be the same maximum clock speed as the A6 in the iPhone 5 (both 1.3GHz) and the Apple is still claiming a 2x performance increase. Secondly, a big feature of the iPad is almost certainly a big reduction in the physical size of the device which probably means a smaller battery so power consumption becomes very important and if Apple can avoid needing to up the clock speed then I would think they will. I agree that there'll be more GPU power in the A7X than the A7 but my guess is that the CPU will have the same clock speed.

2gb of ram would definitely be nice and if history is to repeat itself it will probably get bumped. But Apple has always been stingy with ram and it's always been the bottleneck with their mobile devices.

Good point. I suppose it doesn't need it as the GPU is made to take strain off the CPU. And the iPad 5 is looking at a killer GPU which is energy efficient. It's only possibility is the G6640 as the 5S got the second highest model and the iPad needs the extra GPU.

There has been 2 generations of iPad with 1Gb of RAM; I think it's time for an upgrade too.

The iPad 5 has been confirmed to have 2 Gb of RAM. The leak was from Sonny Dickson who has proven himself as a reliable source after reviewing the specs of the iPhone 5S and 5C over twitter. He states that both the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 will have Touch ID and come in space grey, silver and gold.

He also stated that the iPad Mini will be running the A7 processor found in the iPhone 5S and will come with 1Gb of RAM. He went on to say the iPad 5 will have 2Gb of RAM.

He has also leaked several pictures of the upcoming iPad's (like he done with the iPhone's) on his twitter.

Just being realistic.

Do I want more RAM? Yes

Will Apple do more RAM? ehh...

Apple's priority is to slim down the iPad 5 while keeping 10 hours of battery and get a Retina display on the iPad Mini and still have 10 hours of battery.

Next year with the iPhone 6 and iPad 6, I think they will add more RAM and possibly drop the 16GB models.

Yep, I think that the A7X is definitely a given.

RAM? I hope it's 2GB, BUT considering how well the iPad4 runs with 1GB RAM on iOS7? I'm not sure if Apple will see the use in putting in 2GB RAM, I think they'll focus heavily on graphics, but who knows? Maybe the A7X will require more RAM and so maybe they'll bump it up to 1.5GB if not 2GB.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with the whole "no 1.5Gb ram" idea. I just feel that with the iPad always being the more powerful one of the two (the iPad 4[2012] has the same overall graphical performance as that of the iPhone 5S) and with the iPad always beating the iPhone to the Ram upgrade, I really do hope that the iPad 5 has 2Gb of Ram.

I feel that the upgrade for the iPhone will be greater that that of the 5S as an iPhone 5 runs iOS 7 fine but an iPad 4 seems to be a lag fest! So hopefully 2Gb of DDR3 Ram as well as a G6630 GPU (and of course an A7X variant clocked slightly higher); the iPad 5 will handle great :)

Doubling the Ram in the iPhone 5S could have had a bad affect on the battery life but seeing as the iPad is rumoured to use a more erergy efficient screen and all; 2Gb Ram won't hit the battery too hard. At least there is room for slightly less battery in an iPad; compared to an iPhone that has a short battery life as it is now.

Holy sh** dude, this might be the longest post in MacRumors history.

If the Powervr G6630 pans out to be true, does that mean that the GPU will be more powerful than my 650M in my retina? I looked at the gflops output of 650M and it seems to be way lower than the 1TFLops from the Powervr G6630.

Could that be correct?

The chances are Apple will cap this though, because if they max it out this year they wouldn't be able to upgrade it next year. Expect the output performance to me around 200-300 Gflops when capped.

The GPU inside your Macbook Pro outputs at 652.8 Gflops. But remember that a lot of that GPU power is also going into rendering the OS, which is much more complicated than on iOS and it is pushing a retina MB with a lot more pixels that a retina iPad. So to have the same output performance in graphics as your MB Pro Retina; the iPad 5 would need around 200-300Gflops which is about right if capped.

At worst; if the iPad 5's GPU get's the same jump from the iPad 4 as the iPhone 5S got from the 5, the the iPad's GPU will perform around 205Glops. This is what the minimum the iPad's GPU would be (which means it beats the PS3's and XBox 360's GPU) but is possible for Apple to go much higher than that.

Minimum GPU performance - 205Gflops
Possible GPU performance - 250-350Gflops
Maximum(unlikely) GPU performance - just over 1 Tflops

I'd love this but no way 2GB RAM.

2Gb of RAm has been comfirmed by the same person that leaked all of the images of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPad 5 and iPad Mini along with all the specs of the iPhone 5S and 5C. He is a relible sourse and has been 100% correct.

The leaked Specs are an A7X clocked at 1.4Ghz, 2Gb of RAM and a G6630 GPU.

I cannot comment on that. I am just glad that the G6630 GPU and 2 Gb of RAM is confirmed. Amazing news :) Just think of the game that will come to the app store within the next 12 months with this sort of power (the GPU performs around 200-300Gflops) and controller support :)

Just out of curiosity, if they maxed it to 1Tflop then what is stoping them to put this into rMBP? I mean if it has almost double the performance of 650M then wouldn't it make sense to utilise it? If it can drive iPad then why not another device that could use it?
Is it because the architecture is different and wouldnt' work (they advertised iOS as pretty much full OS X so I would assume its possible)
Someone who knows more can possibly clarify this, please?

It would be possible. But I think people would want the device to be cheaper if it is using a mobile GPU though.

Someone tweeting an expectation is far from a "confirmation". Because Sonny Dickson has been "lucky" in guessing previous iPhone/iPad specs doesn't mean it's confirmed.

If Apple sticks to current trends, iPad Mini will have A6 and iPad5 will have A7X, still 1gb and probably the GPU you've been talking about since there's nothing really else out there to put in it unless they just put the 5S gpu but clock it higher (this might be cheaper for apple to do).

Wait, what? There's no way that a mobile based GPU is remotely close to pretty much any laptop GPUs. Apple would never decide to use PowerVR in a MacbookPro for obvious reasons.. A phone/tablet GPU might read powerful on paper, but without the proper buffering, GPU-ram, etc.. it's limited/scaled down IMMENSELY.

He is not that he is just guessing, he was the one that leaked almost all of the images of the iPhone 5S, 5C, iPad 5, and mini 2. He knows what he is talking about and if anyone knows outside of Apple HQ, it's Sonny.

You can believe 1Gb of RAM if you wish, but I fell that Apple cannot go a 3rd year with 1Gb of RAM and seeing as 2Gb has been leaked; I not only believe 2Gb, but think that is way more likely than 1Gb.

I'm convinced you don't understand the differences between mobile GPUs and the GPUs in laptops/desktops.. It's not about "image".. It's plain and simple that a PowerVR gpu will never compete against any laptop/desktop GPU.

There's a reason why laptop GPUs use about 35 to 55watts and desktop GPUs are using upwards of 300watts, you can't possibly think that these PowerVR gpus that use .5watts are some kind of brand new technology and that Nvidia and AMD have been doing it wrong this entire time?

PowerVR has been for a very long time.. it's not up to the task of powering a Pro level computer or any machine that needs to have respectable graphics performance. It's perfect for "mobile" OSes that have lightweight capability.

To say that even the 5S is comparable to the 360/PS3 in terms of performance is a bold claim.. The PS3/Xbox360 still have major capacity limits over the PowerVR gpus.. namely at this point in time, ram. You also realize the PS3/360 are 6 years old right? And it's taken PowerVR 6 years for a mobile GPU to start to catch up to that performance level.

I was not comparing the iPhone 5S GPU with a PS3 or Xbox 360's GPU. It is half as powerful as an xBox 360's GPU. I was talking about the G6630 that will feature in the iPad 5. IT have stated that it could perform upto 1Tflop. I was talking about using that when it can perform that high in a MB Pro.

The iPad's GPU will be on par with the PS3/Xbox 360's GPU (155 for XBox, 174 for PS3). If the iPad gets the same jump as the iPhone just got, it would sit as a nice 205Gflops. But I think apple would push it slightly more to around 250Gflops as it is the G6630. But if Apple only do a 2X jump it would still be sitting in line with the Xbox 360'x GPU (155). With the iPad only being 9.7 inches, game textures could be lower and not noticeable compared to a 50 inch tv.

Event. October 15th is what everyone expects. So invitations should get sent out tomorrow/ Wednesday.

Some guy on the internet said it was Retina, CONFIRMED.

Nice dude. Real cool, now no one on this forum is going to take you seriously :) Have a nice day.

Bully the new kid; eh. This isn't school. Just because my join date was over a week ago, doesn't mean my eye's have been shut on everything Apple ever since. I have read news for the iPad's, iOS 7, iPhone 5S, Apple custom SoC's and Apple Events every day and always come to Macrumors for a look to any new rumors or news. So grow up, I find it silly you are discriminating me for only being here a week, yet you are the one acting like a school bully: thinks they are above everyone else yet they are the most stupid in the class.

I think that I might send you in to the Apple Bite for bad apple of the week :)
