Hi! I've recently started thinking about Christmas (yes, I'm that person :D), and so I asked my parents if they still wanted me to make a list (I'm at the age where I don't want to just make a list and give it to them out of no where), and my mom said she still wants a list. Anyway, for the last few days I've been looking at the iPad Air 2 (and by looking, I mean obsessively researching) and I used to be a naysayer of the iPad, but after actually researching it, I see just how useful it is. I'm thinking I might ask for the Air 2 for Christmas. I absolutely love the gold color (from what I see online on videos and in pictures), but I was wondering- in person is the gold a tasteful gold, or is it a gaudy and "in your face" type of gold? I was just wondering, since I've never seen the gold on display in tech stores in my area, for some reason.

I just bought a gold Mini. I agree with race - not blingy at all.

In case it's relevant, I'll mention that I had a gold retina MacBook for a couple of weeks and carried it to business meetings every day. No one ever looked twice at it, much less commented on the machine being a big piece of bling.

Thank you very much! That's actually what I was most concerned about- people looking at it and silently (or not silently lol) judging me. Now I feel really good about my choice I'm going to make :)

If you have a Bestbuy check with someone, even if the store doesn't have them on display we usually have some lying around for store use, especially the mobile Dept. That way you can get a hands on look.

Thanks! Next time I'm near our local Bestbuy with my family, I'll make sure to do that :)

Thanks again, everyone!

I have a gold Air 2 and love it. It's not too flashy in my opinion. My iPhones gold as well. Get what you like first and foremost. Nobody worth knowing will think anything of your iPad color.

While I would never get anything besides Space Grey for my phone since I like black bezels on my phone, I don't have this same hang-up with iPads. That being said, I quite like the gold iPad Air 2 that I have and it looks quite nice, especially the little gold ring around the home button/Touch ID sensor. Since I rarely look at the back of the device, it's my one constant reminder that I own the gold version, and I enjoy it quite a bit.

Just run a YouTube search for the gold iPad color. You will see reviewers and unboxers' videos. That should give you a pretty good idea of what the color looks like and whether it matches your taste.

When I purchased my iPad Air 2, I was leaning towards getting Space Grey or White/Silver.

They were sold out of Silver, so I initially decided on Space Grey. I went to buy a leather case, and they only had Red, Brown or Blue to select from. I'm not a fan of bright coloured cases to decided on an impulse to switch to the gold iPad with the brown leather case and I absolutely love my decision.

Prior to owning a Gold device, I always thought they looked tacky, however I really do love my gold Air 2, and it goes perfect with the brown leather case.

I've got a space grey iPad Air 2 from launch day, love it but I think for my next iPad; I'll go gold :)

I began to like it and gave gold a miss on the iPhone 6, but after buying my gold Air 2 last year my whole lineup (other than the watch) is gold. Trust me; you'll love it, looks great in a midnight blue case. I have ended up colour coding all of my tech because I am sad like that! But; it is much less in-your-face than the old 5S gold so I would say go for it, and go into an Apple Store to have a look at what the colour is like now on anything? Will post some pictures of my gold Air 2 (WiFi, 64GB) when I get home tonight.

Ordered my Gold Air 2 the second you could order them when they came out on the Apple Store site as my 5S was also Gold (have a 6S+ Rose Gold now :p) And still love the color! M-U-S-T B-U-Y.

A couple of random comments sort of tangentially related to this post. I used to think that movies and other video media would look better in a black bezel. Having owned (at the same time) both gold and space gray iPhones and iPads, it actually doesn't really make a big difference to me (but YMMV). On the color of the back, it's true that not only do you seldom look at it but most of us wind up putting the iPad in a case, in which case you can't see what color it is at all unless it's a clear back...but I still think the gold is nice, and you can see the edge of the back around the bezel in most cases.

Definetely Gold. I wen't absolutely bananas when I unboxed mine. It looks absolutely dope. Been regreting my Spacegray iPhone since then. Should have gone gold with the iPhone too.

Haha, at first I read your reply as if you were saying that my post were random comments that seemed to loosely tie together and i kind of agreed, before re-reading it and realizing you were talking about your own post. XD

Aside from the bezel colour, another thing that somewhat annoyed me was the little black border around the display that you can clearly see when you have a white bezel but tends to blend in when you have black bezels; this also contributes to my wanting black bezels on my phone as I use it everyday and much more often than my iPads.

I completely agree with your comment about media and black bezels. I thought the same way previously but after getting mostly white bezels with my iPads (aside from the Air 1 and Mini 4) eventually I stopped noticing if there even was a difference. I have heard some people that like to read books on their iPads that they prefer white bezels as it matches the white background of books/websites more than the black bezels. Of course to each their own as I have no problems watching media on a device with white bezels or reading sites on a device with black bezels.

Anyways...! To get back on topic, I think that the gold iPad is pretty tasteful and wouldn't worry about it being too gaudy or anything like that. As well, I only use my iPad at home and only with a Smart Cover, which leaves the back uncovered in its full glory and no one around to judge me except me... and maybe the girlfriend.:p

Hi - bought the Air 2 in gold last April - looks fab. Go for it.

Thanks everyone! I have a blue iPod Touch 5, so I'm used to white bezels :p I'm going to ask for a thin, clear case, so the iPad can remain in all its glory XD
