My simple test:
Go to The Verge on the Air and the Air 2, and scroll up and down the page. The Air reloads the page as I move from top to bottom, and the Air 2 keeps the entire page loaded at all times. Also, the Air 2 loaded the page faster than the Air when they were launched simultaneously.

I notice no difference on my rmini or air2. Once the page was loaded on both. I could move from top to bottom as fast as I wanted as much as I wanted with no loading.

Did you try something like The Verge? It was pretty dramatic when compared them, but I'm streaming a movie with the Air. I don't know if that makes a difference, but I should add that info.

My Air is constantly dropping wifi when I try to watch Netflix in bed. From there it's corner to corner 1st to 2nd floor from where the router is. If I hold the iPad sideways wifi speed falls off the cliff (every iPad iteration was this way). I'm using an Asus AC68 AC router which is one of the top models. I'm hoping the Air 2 with AC will give me better reception from bed.

Can you try holding your Air 2 sideways (both ways) and see how much speed drops off? Try it from a good distance from your router. This reception dropoff when held sideways is mainly an issue when far away from the router.

The last three tests are on different servers, held sideways, at a spot I used to lose signal with my rMini all the time. For reference as well we have 3 chrome casts, an Apple TV, 2 laptops currently connected, 7 smartphones, and 3 tablets including my own that I'm aware of currently connected to the wifi.

My previous tests were taken with no one home so less devices in use. Not much of a difference aside from upload so I'm pleasantly surprised. Anything else you'd like me to check?

I just got mine today, moving from an iPad 3. It is a lot faster. I will try to test it a bit more over the weekend, but apps like Lightroom load a lot faster and the slideshow feature actually works without a problem (1028 photos on the catalog I tested...always chokes on the iPad 3). I also had major issues with the Next Issue app on the 3. It loads a lot faster on the Air 2 and doesn't have a delay every time I turn a page.

Very impressed so far, but I have just had a few hours with it and a lot of that was setting up passwords. I also downloaded Pixelmator, which looks pretty awesome.

I haven't compared it to the iPhone 6 plus.

That's the only thing I can't test at the store. Looks good. Thanks for testing :)

I have purchased every Ipad model since it was launched and the Air 2 is the only model where I noticed a significant increase in speed and performance. The touch screen is also much improved and feels solid unlike the spongy Air 1 screen. Colors are also more vivid and contrast levels are increased. Camera is also a major improvement, especially in low light conditions. If you are upgrading from anything but the Ipad Air, just buy it. If you are upgrading from the Air 1, I would encourage you to see it at the store, there is no significant change in size or weight. If you have disposable income, then the upgrade from the Air 1 is well worth it IMHO.

I upgraded from an iPad 3 to the new Air model and am very pleased. I found the old iPad to be a bit laggy with iOS 8 and was getting frustrated with it. The Air 2 is very snappy!

My Air doesn't reload the page...

The The Verge site does however use up so much memory that loading it causes the other tabs to be dropped from memory and reloading them when opened.

Other loaded applications or processes (I.e., notifications) may also affect browser performance, including reloads and scrolling performance.

The faster your Internet connection, the more likely you are to notice a significant difference on the iPad Air 2. On slower Internet connections, the connection is/was the limiting factor and not the original iPad Air. On faster connections, the iPad Air is/was the limiting factor. I have an 80+Mbps FiOS connection and the difference in page loads is very noticeable (with identical wireless sync rates on both devices).

The iPad Air 2 doesn't just have a faster processor and more memory. It also has a superior interface to flash memory. Flash memory throughput on the iPad Air 2 is 80MB/s vs. 20MB/s on the iPad Air.

This is very interesting. Do you have any source?

When do Apple release this patch that makes my Air slow like all of yours?

Sorry, Im not buying the Placebo effect stuff. There is not THAT much of a difference out the box. At least not enough to make the iPad Air become unresponsive (touch responsiveness has never been an issue on iOS) and dramatically slow.

My iPad Air is still ridiculously quick.

I just played Asphalt 8 on mine and I was blown away. I forgot I was playing on an iPad for a second.

Yeah, Metal makes a huge difference and the frame rate is solid. And that's on an A7 iPad Air. I doubt there's a huge difference, if any, between Air 1 and 2 running that game.

Anyone else try Siri? She is lightning fast and had no problems whatsoever with what I was asking as it was quoted verbatim on the screen and FAST!!

I have a netgear R7000 nighthawk router. Sitting about 10 feet away I go from about 300Mbps on 5ghz N to about 490Mbps down on 5ghz AC. I'll take that!

Funny how people are saying its so much faster then the air. I have a rMini (same specs as the air)and the air 2. I compared side by side for over an hour last night hitting each app and web page i tested at the same time on both. Most of the time the rMini and air 2 loaded at the same speeds. There truthfully is not much difference between the 2 in real world use. Only big difference is with the safari refresh with multiple tabs open.

Well I'm strictly speaking about wireless performance myself. AC connectivity is clearly faster than N.

Agreed. Love the firmness of the screen.

Mine is extremely fast! Of course my reference is the original iPad , but it is so fast that it's faster than any device I own.

I'm loving it and really glad I finally upgraded. :D

Right, the iPad air can load the website fine, it's the lack of memory which causes the constant refreshing

According to the tear down on the Air 2, besides the 2gb ram its sporting a Tri-Core processor. This thing absolutely screams in performance,I'm blown away by how much faster it is than my original Air.
