By the way, it is still an iPad running iOS. It won't cook your dinner or cure cancer like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 does.

Heh. But the truth is, ever since I got the first iPad, I've been using my computers less and less. Sure, there are many things that are still better done on computers, or things that iOS can't do, but now, when I have to do those tasks, I kind of drag myself to the computer to do then. Using traditional computers, either Windows or OS X, is a chore. I keep wishing I could do more desktop tasks on iOS.

I really think adding some form of mouse pointer would improve the "desktop" experience in IOS more so than whatever people are considering a file system.

For stylus, i would choose Adonit:) have the old Jot Pro+ If you dont choose iPad pro. Looking at the ipad pro too myself xD but worried if its too big for gaming.

currently have a 13"rMBP as my main computer, as well as a mini 3 and a 6s plus.

I need a bigger iPad now that I have the plus, so should I go with the iPad Air 2 or iPad pro?

I won't be drawing at all. Just consumption and taking notes and watching Netflix
If you have a MacBook Pro then go for the air 2

Makes more sense to me...I love my air 2 and I wouldn't use the pro for anything more than I use the air so why spend an extra £400 for the sake of it?

Not to blend me in here. The ipad pro uses tech from the Mac 5K monitor, if im not mistaking + higher res screen :D

I'm leaning towards a air 2, just because I use my mini 3 daily once I'm home from school. And for the price. Maybe next year there will be some referbisehd IPP. right now I can get a iPad Air 2 64gb on Apple referbisehd for 509. Pretty good deal. Next question is should I get Apple care or not.
For your use cases, the Air 2 will be terrific. There are so MANY keyboard cases/covers available for it that you are nearly guaranteed to find one that matches your needs perfectly. With the iPP, there are only 2 currently available. Sure there will be more in the coming months, but in the meantime you'd have to go without one, or choose one of those.

If you decide to get the Air 2 be sure to keep checking deal sites like slickdeals for heavy discounts on *new* ones from authorized sellers like Bestbuy and Staples. Apple store refurb is no longer a good deal on the Air 2
Excellent advice. I recently bought a new 128GB Air 2 for $550 at Staples. There are going to be similar sales during Black Friday. @Ethan Coohill should be able to pick up a NEW 64GB Air 2 for less than Apple's refurb.

ipad air 2 + slim folio + adonit jot or dash depending on needs.

i use it for sketching renovations and notes with no issues.
I use the Adonit Jot ($19) for technical/precision drawing/diagramming. I use the Bargains Depot thin rubber tip stylus ($6/2pk, $8/4pk) for drawing and sketching, and looking to get the DotPen ($60) stylus around Christmas just to try something new.

I would at this point go for the Air 2. It is significantly cheaper than the iPad Pro and right now from what I can see the Pro isn't that much different outside of a bigger screen and the pencil. I would get an Air 2 with a BT keyboard and call it a day.

Staples Black Friday is probably the way to go. 64gb for 449! Thanks for the advice!

Are you using any stylus for note taking? Is working well without no palm rejection? I am planing to buy the Adonit Jot Script 2 f9r note taking but seems expensive compared with other stylus.

I don't take handwritten notes with the stylus. My handwriting is extremely slow so I type my notes and only use the stylus for diagramming within a note. One reason why I have avoided the existing bluetooth styli is the limited support that they have. I don't want to get straight-jacketed into one app or another. The greatest reason to get one is for the palm rejection.

I have an active stylus for my Acer Aspire Switch 11 that works extremely well (but not a fan of the windows software options). That has convinced me to hold off on an active stylus for an iPad for Apple to produce an iPad that supports the Pencil.

I'm still extremely satisfied with my iPad Air 2. It hasn't gotten any worse just because another product was released. It's still more than enough for just about anything you throw at it. The biggest advantage with the Pro would, imho, be the stylus, and anyone inclined to use a wacom tablet or similar ones already.

Looks like everyone is recommending the Air 2, but for watching streaming video, the Pro is definitely far and away the better device. It's got double the screen area, and that makes an enormous difference.

However, the Pro is not very portable. For portability (taking notes in class) the Mini is probably still your best bet. The Air is easier to type on, with its larger on-screen keyboard, but it's heavier and more awkward to carry around than the Mini.

As you go from the Mini to the Air to the Pro, there's a significant increase in weight and awkwardness for carrying, and a significant increase in enjoyment for watching video, and a slight increase in ease of typing. If you didn't have the Mini I'd say get the Air if your main use is note-taking in class, or the Pro if your main use is watching video. But since you already have the Mini, I'd say keep it for class notes and get the Pro (if you can afford it) for video.

If cost is a problem, I'd say don't buy anything. Keep your Mini.

JMHO.

Why not a Pro?? It's faster, better speakers, better battery and better in every way. I actually own both, 2 Air 2's and 1 Pro. The Air 2 is last years technology so it's already dated without the A9 or A9X chip. It may not even get the A9X chip when it's updated next year so it's always going to be positioned lower than the top model, iPad Pro.
The iPad Pro speed and better speakers are worth the upgrade from the Air 2 alone. Factor in all the other advancements in the Pro and there is no comparison between the two.

If price is no object, there is really no comparison on what to get. The iPad Pro all the way.

Being faster and better speakers isn't enough to upgrade to the pro. It's hardly earth shattering upgrade. If price isn't an issue then yes pro is a greater option if size isn't an issue. If it wasn't so over priced I would have a pro now.

Sadly it isn't worth close to the extra £400 it is compared to the air 2.

Going from a A8X with 2gb of ram to a A9X with 4gb of ram isn't a reason to upgrade?? You either know nothing about the evolution of the iPad or trying to convince yourself this because you don't want to spend any money. When was the last time the iPad doubled its Ram??? Yea, I would say that's news worthy.
Typically most upgrade to the next evolution of iPad for a lot less. The iPad Pro is not just a upgrade but is a completely different animal and has now established itself as the halo iPad tablet in the pecking order of the family. From now on, the iPad as we know it will always be kept below the Pro in performance. This was discussed in length on several reviews of the platform line.

A9X with 4GB of Ram is huge upgrade in performance.

I was interested myself but will wait for the second generation and iOS 10. Currently it isn't more than a larger iPad if you don't need the pencil. iOS 9 simply doesn't make use of the possibilities the hardware offers.

Price is no object for me... buying an iPad Pro in its current state would be a waste of money for me. One reason why "price is no object" for me is because I make intelligent purchasing decisions. It doesn't take any thought to buy the biggest and the fastest. There is a lack of accessories and apps are still being developed/upgraded to take advantage of the Pro... by the time there is a sufficient choice of accessories and apps to exploit the Pro, the Air 3 and/or Pro 2 will be released.

Ipad pro all day long. Why buy old tech. The pro is better in every way and more future proof. Therefor worth the extra £££ in my eyes. All the little things make up an experiance. And whether that be the better screen or bigger display or more fluidity or the great speakers. Everything is an upgrade.

I am going to buy 4 more iPad Pros for my company. I own my own company and use iPads in our office and for presentations. I have a Gold 128g Air 2 that was purchased as a spare. We never use it and it is just sitting in my office. I should probably let it go since is practically new and the other Pros are coming soon.

For me, being a larger iPad makes all the difference. That and the really marvelous speakers. However, I would not have bought it if I'd had to scrimp to pay for it, or borrow (time payments or slowly paying down a credit card). Nothing's worth going into debt for.
