NOOOOOOOOOOOO, "Murky-Gate"

Well I have just ordered another one from Apple as this is definitely noticeable to me, especially in settings or on the keyboard. I'll use this one till the new one arrives and then check that one over before returning this one.
Disappointed but not altogether surprised!

Are you sure this is a defect and not how the new 'bonded' screen looks like? Can you explain it in more detail?

I'm afraid so, seen it before with other iPads, in fact my retina mini has it as well but it is the lower half of that screen that is warmer.
I'll try and photograph this issue but not sure how well it will show up.

To explain the issue; if you have a grey screen, the keyboard or settings app illustrate it well, you will notice that as you look across the screen, it gets gradually warmer in colour as you look to the left. The lower the brightness, the more obvious it is which is why it is most distracting at night time when reading.

Same here for an order placed around the same time as you, although it's still listed as processing so I can't see it arriving today anyway ;). We'll see tomorrow/Friday I guess...

Mine has changed back again too but now says 'Express Shipping' - SG 64GB Cellular

Delivery: 22 Oct, 2014 - 24 Oct, 2014 by Express Shipping

As in: you can just activate the hotspot from the iPad? (assuming the iPhone Personal Hotspot is toggled on, obviously) No need to touch the phone at all?

Cheers

No need to touch the iPhone at all.

I can activate the hotspot from the iPad even with the iPhone set to "Personal Hotspot > Off" without touching the iPhone. On the iPad, I just go into the wifi list in Settings, and above the list of Wi-Fi Networks is a Personal Hotspot list —*it shows just my iPhone, together with the iPhone's signal strength and battery status. I just tap it and turns the Personal Hotspot on my iPhone on (which disconnects the iPhone from the wifi so it shares only the cellular connection).

Shortly after I turn wifi off on the iPad, or select another wifi network, the Personal Hotspot setting on the iPhone goes back to off and the iPhone reconnects to the usual wifi as well.

Apple SIM

My order has just updated again to show an apple SIM as part of the order

Awesome - that might just save me the £100! Thanks for the reply!

Feel for you guys that are still waiting!

If it helps though, mine arrived just as I was about to leave to drive to Wales so I didn't open it.

Drove to Wales, hiked up and down pen-y-fan , drive back. Then finally opened it :)

Yeah me too - looks like the stupid Apple SIM that I'm not going to use is the issue - so you hold up everything just so that you can get a SIM that only works with EE.

My estimated delivery changed to 27th-30th earlier, and now it's back to 22nd-24th. Now it's updated again to add an Apple SIM which is due on the 24th... I just have no idea what's happening any more. Hope it's dispatched tomorrow, though.

Screen issue - sorry for the bad picture as I took this on my phone and its still not dark enough yet to really show up the issue but trust me it is more noticeable in person.

They had WiFi units in Westfield Stratford so I picked up a 64GB White/Silver and cancelled my WiFi & Cellular pre-order.

I'm going to try out the hotspot for a week or two and see how it goes. It seems very simple and reliable from what I tested today and I always have my phone with me. I would save fifteen quid a month on my O2 iPad SIM as well. I might have to increase my iPhone data plan a bit but it would stil be cheaper than a second SIM.

P.S. One thing I have noticed which nobody has commented on is the finish on the back. It's more textured/matte and less slippy. It feels great. I still don't like the champfered edges though. They were not comfortable on the first Air and they still aren't.

Cancelled my cellular and walked into John Lewis Cheadle and got a wifi silver 128, there was one more left at 2:00 pm. There was quite a bit of stock behind the counter, I don't think it will last long though. No Cellulars at all though.

Mine just changed to Preparing For Dispatch ... still 22-24th :)

Hope it dispatches tonight for delivery tomorrow

losing chamfered edges would be the best thing. So glad they lost them on the iPhone 6 .... it was a magnet for "nick-gate"
