It is a deal breaker for me. I find it very annoying. Spoke to two Apple reps, including a manager, who acted like they didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. Just got the prepaid labels from Apple to return the iPad Air 2 and the Smart Case. My fourth generation iPad doesn't do this at all so why would it be acceptable for a device that is supposed to be improved to do it.

Yep mine is going back to. Worst part is I gave my IP3 to my daughter now I have nothing.

so they just ****ed up the bass level? this could be fixed by software

No. Since the iPad shell is so "incredibly thin", the sound from the speakers reverberates throughout the entire device in an unpleasant way. It is an engineering defect, not a bass level problem.

my theory is that it's the screen: while the previous one wasn't bonded and had a small gap between the digitizer and the actual panel, the new one is just one piece, thus transmitting mechanical vibration caused by the speaker at a much greater level. (add to that the reduced size and there you go).

No, that's not it. The prominence of the vibration comes from the back of the iPad, about an inch and a half above the speakers.

if its only caused by too much bass, then it can be fixed by software.

I already said, with the EQ OFF it does it. With the EQ set to "bass reducer" on it does it.

There is no software fix for a design flaw. It's just too damn thin.

I love the Air 2, but am starting to think I won't be able to live with the vibrations. It's distracting and downright unpleasant to use the screen while playing music. And, that's with the volume at ~30%. :(

I would return it no way Im paying this much for a tablet and it does this.

If this vibration is as bad as described (my Air 2 arrives tomorrow), I have to wonder: isn't this bad for the iPads other components? I have to think that this kind of intense vibration can't be good for the rest of the device.

how much does it vibrate, and where exactly?

The vibration is something you feel on your hands and fingers. (The speakers SOUND good.) It's felt on both the back of the iPad and the screen. you can feel it even when the iPad's in a case.

If it was just the back of the iPad, I don't think it'd be a big deal. But, the vibration is irritating when using the screen.

Not surprisingly, it's worst In the area around the speakers.

My rmini doesn't viberate even at max volume. I think it might be able to be fixed by software as it seem to have way to much bass.

Amazing how reviews from tech sites like The Verge didn't mention it. What does that tell you? ;)

They just had few days to do the review and basically just described the appearance and ran some benchmarks on it and took some photos...

Fortunately (?) this year I chose not to be a guinea pig since I need to know how different it is to my current Air 1 before considering

iPad Air 2 sound vibrating!

Just pick up my Air 2 and it's going right back. Just got done watching a movie and now my right hand is numb from the vibration of the sound!! Total BS, Apple should have been aware of this BIG ISSUE!!!!!

Ok,so I just came from the Apple store after trying some hands-on with the iPadAir 2. The vibration from playing music is BAD. I tried it with both EQ off and "Bass reducer" EQ setting, with volume at 50%.

As soon as I got home I did the same with my iPad Air. Removed the Smart Cover and did the same thing. No comparison. The iPad Air 2 vibrates pretty badly, particularly about an inch and a half from the bottom, and resonates throughout.

Now, I don't regularly use my Air as a music player, but watching web content with sound - it would really bother me.

IMHO they've gone too thin.

It comes down to a simple choice for me: endure Safari tab reloading on my iPad Air
Or
Endure excessive vibration from sounds emanating from the iPad Air 2.

(Typed with my iPad Air)

I don't think that will matter. I tried three display models in the store. They ALL vibrated badly. BADLY.

Too much vibration from the internal speakers?

Try our Beats(TM) lines of headphones!

----------

1). They didn't play any music

2). They don't want to be tooooooo disparaging or they will no longer get invited to Apple events.

Take your pick.

Which is the major reason I don't take early reviews very seriously.

Actually the review from Walt Mossberg was quite negative.

Definitely a design flaw. They made it too damn thin.

I'd rather go on suffering from constant Safari tab reloading on my Air (they should have shipped it with 2GB to begin with...) than put up with the vibration in the Air 2.

This is quite a 'Steve would not have allowed this' moment since he was a music lover and would have actually tried out the speakers and rejected it for the vibration.
