I have to admit I've been trying to ignore it since yesterday and it's becoming harder and harder...
I've noticed the same thing! I'm coming from an iPad 2 myself and the sound quality is hed and shoulders above anything my old iPad produced.
The speakers also seem to go way louder on the Air 2? I dunno what's going on down there but whatever it is, it's excellent!
I was thinking of picking up an iPad Air 2 but I just may get the Air. I'm coming from an iPad 3.
It is a deal breaker for me. I find it very annoying. Spoke to two Apple reps, including a manager, who acted like they didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. .
Yep, quite a few Apple store staff are like that. You go in and explain something to them that everyone is discussing and they act is if you don't know what you're talking about and shew you away. One female employee, after I told her about reports on MacRumors, told me not to believe everything you read on the internet especially from a site called Mac"Rumors". LOL I just wanted to slap her right there and then.![]()
Okay.... Go into Setting, Music, and EQ. Most of the EQ settings don't make much difference, but Flat and Bass Reducer do. I have mine set to Bass Reducer right now, and it reduces the resonance, and actually improves the overall sound.
She has got a point though. I didnt notice anything. Shes probably handled dozens of iPad Air 2s so.... Just return it if there is a problemYep, quite a few Apple store staff are like that. If I were a patient man I would just wait until my Air 2 arrives tomorrow and answer my own question... But this vibration thing concerns me. Let me ask this: is this vibration just bass? That is, is it just the low frequencies making it shake? Every ipad I've ever heard has pathetic bass, practically no bass at all. Is it possible that Apple has an iPad, finally, that has great bass response? Put your hands on a subwoofer. It's gonna shake. I'd expect this.
Or is it a constant vibration that has nothing to do with bass? I don't like the sound of that at all...
The sound is not as rich as the normal iPads in terms of the mids and highs. But the bass is kinda overpowering everything else..

It's the resonance that you'd feel in while touching any responsive speaker.
I view any guitar that doesn't resonate with a great deal of suspicion. Make no mistake, buying an Air instead of an Air 2 will not give you a resonance free experience.![]()
It's the resonance that you'd feel in while touching any responsive speaker. It's most definitely present in the first Air, and more present in the Air 2. This is resonance being transmitted to the chassis and screen on both devices. It's also present on my iPhone 6, but to a much lesser extent (of course). If your hands are in the center of either tablet, or the front and back of the bezel near the speakers, you'll feel it more than if your hands are along the edge. I put both the Air and Air 2 in a case, and it reduces the resonance a bit along the back, but not on the screen.
I play classical and flamenco guitar, and lightly built guitars tend to resonate more. I view any guitar that doesn't resonate with a great deal of suspicion. Make no mistake, buying an Air instead of an Air 2 will not give you a resonance free experience.![]()
I played around with one yesterday in an Apple Store and played some music, it was the first thing I noticed, that and the sound being tinnier than my iPad Air. I intended to buy one and asked the Genius to talk me into it, but he couldn't, he admitted it wasn't that much of a jump from the Air.Hi guys
Received my ipad air 2, i also have the ipad air. I noticed the sound/ speakers on the air 2 seem to vibrate , you can feel the distortion/vibration which holding it. Anybody else experience this? My ipad air 1 has not got this problem.
I played around with one yesterday and that vibration really turned me off, as well as the tinny sound and the darker screen. It is far more pronounced on the Air 2, to the point of being uncomfortable for some. Apple engineers should have picked up on this. But, given Apple's slide in quality control lately it's not unsurprising. There should be more eyes on quality control and less eyes on balance sheets.
I was lucky yesterday, I had a good Genius helping me, I'm not going to repeat what he said as I'd hate to get anyone in trouble. Let's just put it this way, he didn't try to talk me into the Air 2, even after I asked him to.Nothing worse than a smug Apple store employee. They have the uncanny ability to be smug and clueless at the same time.
...
You may be right. But if you are wrong I can already see "It's more resonant" becoming the fanboy excuse of choice. Looking forward to finding out tomorrow.
Next year they'll dump the speakers as well as the mute button, maybe even dump the battery, as a lot of people are saying you don't need a battery to last very long. Just hook it up to a charger, that way they can make it as thin as paper. To be honest , this is bugging me a lot too. The solution is to use your headphones . But I don't always want to wear my headphones .
I just played some heavy music on my Air, no resonance except where the speaker is, none in the back.I'm nobody's fanboy, but I do like the Air 2 more than my Air 1. They're both Space Grey, but I know I'm using the Air when pages take time to reload. I wasn't expecting a ton of difference, but that is big.
There's nothing wrong with a speaker having resonance. There's nothing special about the Air 2 being more resonant than the Air. It just is, but the Air has a resonate chassis as well. You won't escape that with either of these devices. I tend to stream movies and music to a TV or Bluetooth device. I only use the iPad's speakers for quick news videos, so while, it existed on my Air 1, it was something I never noticed. My wife uses the speakers on her Air to listen to music in the office. I've the resonance caused either tablet to vibrate on a desktop, then it would be an issue for me. It doesn't, so it isn't.![]()
