This is great but I don't feel any less appreciative of my 6+.

These two devices, at least for me, exist for different reasons. My soon to be new iPad Air 2 can't and wont replace my 6+.

Irrelevant if you can't even multi-task with it.

Its always funny how people bring up features that they'll barely use. Just like when the first iPhone came out and people complained you can't copy and paste or you can't type in landscape. Nobody types in landscape. Multi tasking may very well be in the pipeline so especially since we know 8.2 and 8.3 are being worked on as we speak. I for one find multitasking a distraction. I prefer to focus on one project at a time to get the maximum productivity. my 2cents

Actually, thanks to Continuity, your iPad Air 2 could replace your iPhone 6+ so long as the 6+ is within bluetooth range and on the same Wi-Fi network. ;)

This makes no sense based on their previous strategy (as in the removal of the X series chips when the A7 came out). This chip is surely meant for the rumored 13" model. If that has a 4K display, this chip may only just be adequate. Nice to have it in the Air all the same.

I wish this would have been a year or two ago. I would have replaced my iPad2. It just sits on a shelf being unused. My family moved on. Wife on Fire HD, youngest on Chromebook, oldest will only use her iPhone, and I'm on N7 and S5.

I've had different thoughts as to why Apple waited so long to build this. Was the tech too immature in 2012/13? I personally don't think so, but I'm no expert. Jadedly, I think the profit margins are finally right. Either way, it was a missed opportunity for Apple to dig a little further into my wallet. They're getting an iPhone 6 out of me for my oldest, but nothing else since the mac mini was abominated (personal opinion). The Air2 and Nexus 9 seem to be great tablets. I just don't want one anymore. Maybe if the Air3 gets speakers like the N9 I might be tempted (stereo speakers should have been a no brainer).

glad

man I'm glad I sold my ipad air before the apple event. and clearly before THIS news.

I want to see that Jimmy Kimmel bit done on the iPad Air (referencing the street interviews done on the 4S vs 4)

Multi-core processing does not require multi-tasking multiple applications. Some applications have multi-threaded operations that can take advantage of this. Its a matter of well the developer parallelizes their code.
