i think it will have only 1gb ram. it will be too soon to add more ram. Air is only a year old device. App developing would take all advantage of available ram and there would be apps "only compatible with..." so i dont think there will be more ram. maybe on next year "the next big thing is more ram!"

i sold mine (air1) and not going to get air2 if it has 1gb ram.

If that's true, I think I will buy a "cheap" iPad Air original instead the 2nd generation one.

I had an iMac from '02 with 768 RAM. It used to be great for browsing, why do we have to deal with refreshing and slow loading on an iPad ?

I don't understand this either. Surely these new versions of iOS aren't more complicated than the early OS X versions right? You could even do real multitasking then.

The interesting thing will be that if it does come with 2 GB of RAM what will happen if safari tab reloads still happen to certain users as they do now?

Oh boy, grab the popcorn and have a seat to watch that unfold on the forums. :D
2 gigs would allow for FUTURE use of true multitasking, when apple FINALLY puts that feature in iOS.

I will NOT buy a new iPad/iPhone without 2 gigs of RAM. I'm already looking for a used iPhone 5s, with remaining warranty for the misses, versus a new one. I will do what I can to prevent apple from seeing that it ok to purposely hold back it's newest devices from features you know will be coming. Talked about planned obsolescence. The fact that the 64bit CPUs require more ram than the 32 bit ones, and they didn't increase the ram with the switch is of putting enough. But to continue to thumb their noses at this who know better, is too much for me to consciously but $$$ towards a new device.

the new selling feature for the iPad will be two apps running in landscape for 'more productivity'. that will need 2gb of ram. you'll get your wish.

I've always been a defender of those 'more productivity' arguments... till yesterday.

I was using a Surface Pro 3 and I have to say that working with two apps at the same time make the screen too smaller, although it is usable in general and useful for certain tasks (e.g. taking notes). But the Surface Pro 3 is 12", whereas iPad is just 9.7"... Maybe browsing while tweeting or something similar (productivity?) would be interesting.

Anyway, if this new trait makes Apple increase iPad RAM, long live the split-screen!

Isn't there a rumored 13" iPad coming? I can see that one (if real) get 2GB of ram and split screen multitasking but not the air or the mini.

There are too many times where I'm watching a video, netflix, streaming live TV(sports) where I am forced to go get my phone to browse something quickly. It's so infuriating that I can't browse during commercials of streamed TV. The #1 reason we don't have this is apple keeping things at 1gig of ram.

if Apple releases the iPad Air 2 with 1GB of memory, they will sell tens of millions of iPads

if Apple releases the iPad Air 2 with 2GB of memory, they will sell tens of millions of iPads

while all of us cannot stand the iPad Air memory issues, there are millions who aren't even aware that there is a problem at all. Many of them don't even know what "memory" even is.

Too true. Even here where people are more "knowledgeable", there have been numerous people claiming they don't have issues with safari, only to see one of the safari refresh videos I post, then come back and say "oh yeah, mine does that". Ugh

I reckon a retina+ screen, ac wireless, fingerprint sensor and, yes, 1GB of RAM. It might also be thinner.

What I don't understand is, why can't they have a separate section for VRAM near the GPU and the data from apps can be loaded into the DDR RAM?

I find it silly that they would load things like graphics into the RAM...

1) Your iMac could cache to the HDD
2) Web pages have grown in size and complexity

Well in terms of Apple's strategy.. they will introduce multitasking along with new devices that have 2gb of ram. If they give 2gb of ram today, then next year there will be less incentive to upgrade.

I get it but at the same time, too much gouging causes quality to suffer. The focus needs to be on making the best product and driving innovation forward and they've gotten away from that in the past few years. However, lots of people are making money at Apple so .. :D

Using two apps with the iPad in landscape can work well as long as the two apps are side by side portrait. It's like having two slightly smaller iPad minis on one screen. It will be a good selling point. I have a surface pro 3 and think the side by side apps are a great idea but the only problem is the bad apps. The windows 8 app developers don't design the apps well for the smaller size when snapped.

1) I have 10GB free on my iPad.Let it cache on that

2) I used it until 2009 and it was fine. Unless websites are using some new technology other than pictures, flash, video, and text. The only thing it couldn't do IIRC was HD on YouTube.

Regardless, I fully agree web browsing should be a better experience on iPad's.

I second the above. In fact I have less problems using Chrome on Android. It's rare to have Chrome crash and it takes a LOT to make tabs reload on an Android device with decent specs. The experience should be far better on the iPad and it's too bad because they are my favorite go to tablets.

What if Apple releases it with just 1GB of ram ? I wouldn't believe it and I would be extremely pissed. Practically a 2015 device.

I believe they will stick with 1 GB and save the 2 GB ram for the Pro model next year. They need to really make the pro model seem a superior device otherwise why buy a bigger, clunkier ipad model.

I completely agree. I hate the very idea of holding back something good so you can sell the next model, but it's how Apple works. No need to buy the Air 2 in this case.

I will buy Air 2 to replace my iPad Air if and only if they up the RAM. The Safari webpage reloads have irritated me to no end. I don't know if it will completely solve the problem but it couldn't hurt and this has really been an aggravation with my Air. I would have returned it but I had already given my husband my iPad 3 which he refused to re gift back to me.

Yes I thought they were holding that out on the iPad 4, so once the iPad Air is out there is a reason to upgrade. Now iPad 4 is out, iPad Air is out, and iPad Air 2 is out and they still holding on that 2GB RAM.

It doesn't make sense that they are holding this upgrade 3 years later, do they want my money now or 3 years later?
