I'm looking forward to getting my Air 2 in June (I get a new iPad every June).

Anyone who follows my posts or knows what I post about knows I'm possibly THE most anally retentive person when it comes to dropped frames in UI's and performance gaps.

My initial comparisons in terms of gaming performance (possibly my main use of an iPad) is that right now there is NOTHING between both Air's. The only game updated for the A8X has been Oceanhorn with a x4 texture level but that's it.

On Safari the main difference is obviously that more tabs can remain open longer and of course you can keep more apps open in the background meaning you can go from a game to Safari for a five minutes and return to the game and it won't relaunch. Sure, it's nice and hints at proper multitasking being capable on this device, but until the Air 2 stretches it's legs we're not going to see the gains the specs suggest.

iOS devices are updated too often now that they are never fully realised when they're replaced. In fact, if we were seeing the best of what the Air 2 can do right now I'd be disappointed. This thing has time on its side and longevity but we're not going to see the fruits of those specs for a while yet.

And having apps not relaunch in the background when switching between them or having a few extra tabs in Safari not refresh is hardly indicative of that power.

Roll on June. When I'll no doubt be truly scathing when I sit both side by side and go, "meh" unless something is released or updated to take full advantage and push performance beyond what an Air 1 is capable of.

Having a 3rd gen Ipad, do you think the jump to the Air 2 is worthy now or should I wait until the next one is released?

Most definitely make the jump to the Air 2.

You're getting an entirely new design, much lighter and thinner and iOS 8 itself will be far more fluid and smoother than iOS 7 or 8 are on your iPad 3.

I'd say anyone with an iPad 3 or 4 would do well to upgrade to the Air 2.

Thanks. My original thought (and budget) was to get a 16gb wifi only since can get it for $400 shipped. But sounds like I would be making a mistake not going for the 64gb, so trying to see if there is a deal or open box out there. I only use my ipad for streaming, internet/email really, but would hate to end up having to constantly try to take apps off because of space.

You really ought to go for the higher storage. I have a 32GB Air but if they didn't have that at the time I'd have opted for the 64GB. It's the right call. 16GB seems like enough but your own needs will change and that's when you don't want to get in a situation where you have to be storage space management crazy to make it work. That gets old quick. ;)

16GB isn't really enough. The Air 2 comes preloaded with pages, numbers, keynote, garageband and the OS by itself takes up 1.2 GB

For the extra $100 you get 3x the storage.

i sold my ipad 3 prior to the ipad air 2 was released.
Have been without an ipad for the first time since gen 1
I really think my iphone 6 plus has taken its place as a means for an E-reader and for surfing. However i feel like my needs have changed and i need an ipad.

Should i wait for the new ipad minis(vsn 4) as i am attracted to the mini size, but am very impressed with the ipad air2's components, reviews and hand-son experience. Now i have never owned a mini, and wondered if i should jump ship and size down?
