Voting for thinness too. I want my iPhone and iPad to be as thin and light as the iPod touch.

I'm actually quite happy with my iPad mini 4. But my iPhone 6s, it's too thick, too heavy and too big. I'm like looking forward to the 6c and sell this one.

4K? Not a chance. It will be the same as it is or less likely that it's upped to match the Pro. Apple isn't historically one to up pixels drastically without significant reason to and hasn't since the iPad 3.

Force touch - what other " killer feature" can they add? Definitely.

More ram? Doubtful.

Processor? A9X variant.

I feel like the iPad Air 2 is a bit of a brick wall. It will be hard to improve upon. Cameras and the typical upgrades to battery and processor but as far as design or new features, I don't see much coming.

One way to accomplish is this to finally rid of the top and bottom bezels. Possibly incorporation of the home button in lieu of integrated finger print sensor built into the display.

Like so:

Be aware that just because apple (or any other company) files a patent, it does not confirm they are close to, or ever going to be putting out a product.

Patents are often filed "just in case", before someone else files for them.

More thinner? Please Apple no! We need more battery time not a sheet of paper! And I know a lot of people that don't buy an iPad because the lack of an USB port.

Correct. This thinner thing is getting out of hand. And, the Air 2 suffers from chassis and screen vibrations that exist because the device is simply too thin. The reduced battery life and cheap feel of extreme thinness starts to come into play as well.

Enough with this crap.

I agree whole-heartedly a 1000X. One of the biggest reasons why I haven't upgraded my iPad 2 from 2011 is because Apple hasn't increased the battery life since then. Yes, they've made the iPad more power efficient so it uses less power, but the runtime on the device (between charges) is less now than its high point 2 years ago when the Air1 was first introduced! My ipad2 gets nearly 10.5-11 hrs and the Air2, 4 years later is only roughly the same.

Fix the chassis vibration issue and make the battery last 12 hrs and I'll happily upgrade. And I doubt that I'm the only one in that boat. There's a reason why the iPad 2 still is the most used model out there and why so many owners haven't upgraded their devices still.

Until then, I'll keep using this (I've got a 32 gig model) until the cows come home. Kept it on ios 7 and it's staying that way.

My sister has a 64gig model and feels the same way.

I agree 1000%. Keep the same thickness (or add a little) and double battery life.

At some point, the device becomes too thin/light to get a good grip on it.

Looks like I'll be enjoying my Air 2 a little longer then, should any of that be true. I mean, sure, if I still had the iPad 2 that I just upgraded from, an A9X chip with 3 or 4 gigs of ram would be pretty cool. I don't see it being worth much of an upgrade from anything current gen, though. I worry that the iPad Pro is going to cause Apple to get into this new thing where they're going to pack as much iPad as they can into a slim package without really evaluating whether or not they need to. We've already seen with the iPP that the ram and the processor and all that fancy stuff doesn't really change the iPad experience...it just doesn't need it. Granted, that may change and as a huge fan of the iPad; I hope it does. However, the simple truth is that right now it's just not necessary and before Apple makes all these giant leaps, they need to focus on moving the already very capable iOS into a more serious realm.

What is the big thing about the iPad 2? People treat the iPad 2 like a cult.

I'll eat my socks if it has 4K resolution. I think it'll be thinner, faster, have an improved camera, and the faster Touch ID. 3D Touch I give a big maybe. I just don't see them adding major upgrades without the iPad Pro getting them first. Much like the iPad Mini has gotten features trickled down from the more expensive iPad, I think the iPad will now take the middle rung in the ladder and see features a generation after the iPad Pro sees them introduced.

I give 3D Touch a slightly more likely if they wait a whole year to release iPad Air 3 and release both that and the Pro at the same time with 3D Touch on both devices.

I don't know about any cult, but it is capable of many basic functions albeit a little slower. Really the only thing it can't do is play modern games which is fine for me because I don't play games on it for the most part.

I'll keep saying this over and over again: I'm looking forward to a thinner iPad Air.

Make it Apple. Keep doing what you're doing.

4K is not going to happen.

I don't see Apple being too generous with RAM so its still going to be 2GB.

The others seem pretty likely.

.

You make a good point. The iPad pro is so much powerful then the Air (and Air2), but as iOS stands now, there is no huge difference.

Until Apple really further advances iOS to take advantage of all this processing power (and more RAM), I think those using the Air2 should be content.

Here's hoping to 4 screen multitasking with ios10 to further distinguish the pro down the line.

Apple pencil. No chance.
If there were Vegas betting on this, I'd throw a ton of money behind the assumption that the air will get the pencil. It would increase, not decrease, the value of the pro to have more developers write apps for the pencil. And there will be more apps for the pencil as the user base of the pencil increases. Something that can only happen when the Air, and eventually the mini, get support for the product.

Plus the iPad Air 2 is super fast, super light and super thin already so it's a good strategy to get current customers to update without a lot of r and d costs.

Y'all go on asking and the design team will make a battery case for it..
Instead of making it thinner, I actually like the curved screen on 6/6s. It feels nicer in hand if used without a case.

I'm on the fence with this one.
Making the iPad Air 3 pencil enabled, may kill sales of the Pro (higher profit margin?)
There are many would love to sketch on something small and portable.
Of course, Apple has always said they don't mind cannibalization as long as it's their own products.

It will be faster with 3D touch and pencil support.

I can't see it getting thinner to be honest, it's already so thin having the volume high makes it vibrate a lot, maybe improved speakers or something if they can get that in.

Very much doubt we'll see an increase in screen resolution.

Yeah, I mean, it's crazy how powerful the iPad Pro is...but there's no use for all that power. There's barely enough use for the power in the Air 2. I don't want to see Apple make something like Google did with the Chromebook Pixel and add an insane amount of power under the hood without any real reason to utilize it. What I would like to see Apple do is take iOS to a more professional level and create it into an operating system that rivals OS X in its own way. Then it would make sense to have an iPad with specs rivaling most mid-level laptops. iOS is built on OS X, so we know that it has the potential.

It's just that, if they want people to start looking at the iPad as a alternative to a laptop, they have to make it operate like one. Apple has a huge opportunity to really change everything and push the iPad even further if they can just manage to push iOS a little further and turn it into an even more serious operating system. Granted, there is already an app for just about everything that you might want to do; I have written many a paper in college on my iPad. But...it's just not quite there. If you know what I'm saying.
