Nope, for several reasons (limited to my use case):

1. Storage is a deal breaker: I currently have 2 TB in both my MBPs in RAID 0 to sync three-ways with a 2TB iMac 27". Last I checked a while ago, they make 2TB drives that fit, meaning I can have 4TB in there and more as my needs increase.

2. Upgradeability: I can upgrade the RAM, HDDs to SSD and any combination of the 2 (since I can have 2 drives in there) at will. No need for a life-sucking trip to the Apple Store or price-gouging the cost of parts/labor.

3. Expandability: My 17 has an Expresscard slot, meaning I can plug into anything they make cards for (currently used for connecting to E-SATA enclosures holding all my older drives full of stuff).

4. Existing infrastructure: I have several decent firewire enclosures I don't want to get rid of yet, as well as music-making hardware that uses firewire as connectors.

I just don't think it's time to upgrade yet.

For my needs, these machines suit me just fine. I'll wait until TB3 and USB-C become standard, and lower-cost, higher-capacity, third-party SSDs are available for Mac portables. Unless Apple starts soldering those in, then I'm done with them permanently.

Bummer, old slow macs with slow spinner storage and 2 out of your three iPads were duds. I see why you are here bemoaning Apple. Apologies.

I miss the 17" and high res 15". :( Should I complete my iPad 9" collection with the Air 3, iPad 2 and 3? Would be nice to have the complete collection. :)

Who said my Mac is slow? It's fast enough for me, but whenever I want to I can throw a pair of SSDs in it (RAID 0) and have both high capacity AND speed. I'd take on a Pepsi challenge on that with anyone and their retina.

Also, what makes the iPads duds is the OS, not the hardware. The competition has caught up to Apple here, and I see no reason to "upgrade" iPads. I still use all three.

No one is bemoaning anything. I'm presenting logical, truthful points about my use case as a discussion/counter-point, which is why most of us are here for.

So put your pom-poms away, set the kool-aid down, and stop trying to turn this into an Apple banana-eating contest.

Definitely. A collection is it's own reward. ;)

I'm not sure what my dad will say - he'll have to respect that. So if I have the 1-6 generation and Apple bring out an Air 3... my collection won't be complete. =[

Ah, so you're playing with someone else's money?

In that case, get it ALL. :p

Just keep them sealed. If I had the money, I would have bought 2 of everything Apple I've ever owned.

Well, I did do that on occasion, but they never stayed sealed. Unboxing is too thrilling and I have zero self-control.

It's my money and I'm using them second hand (so no box) - does a "complete collection" require having the boxes?

What does your heart tell you?

Follow that.

Nevermind what I or anyone else thinks.

Except for that last bit.

Well...you get the idea.

Why does it bother so many here that other people are taking video/photos with their iPads??

How does that impact your life?

Now, camera flash is long overdue, as is having more than one bloody speaker.

However, Apple can call me when the iPad has the ability to have multiple accounts, a filesystem I can access, and maybe a non-proprietary bleeding connector (that one will not happen, but I can wish).

Until then, no thanks.

People holding up their iPads and blocking other people seeing things does effect their lives. They don't pay to go see the screen of somebody's iPad.

The same could be said of anyone holding anything up, including iPhones, as opposed to say, a camera you hold up to your eye. In a concert scenario, which I believe is what you're referring to, ANY device should be put down. You're a douche for filming, when you're supposed to watch. In many concerts it is actually forbidden to record it, although it is rarely enforced. That said, a gentle "yo, man, you mind putting it down? I can't see" should work.

My point is, just using an iPad as a photography/video device doesn't automatically make you a douche, like the comments here seem to imply.

An iPad has a great viewfinder, so why not use it? I can shoot and edit with the same device, no need to transfer anything, carry extra dongles, camera connection whatevers, etc.

From my perspective (pun intended), it's about time the iPad got a damn flash.

Guess you are out then, probably forever. Go buy a laptop. Why are you posting here, how does this thread impact your life? Oh, and iPads have had 2 speakers for a while now, keep up.

 I'll bet he's posting here for the same reasons you are.

Then you probably should've gone with the iPad Air 2 when it came out. Doubled RAM, huge leap in CPU/GPU power yet same display resolution, and much thinner case. Sounds pretty similar to iPad 2.

Except when the iPad Air 2 came out, I had no need to upgrade from my iPad 2. I still don't really have any need to upgrade, as my iPad 2 still gets things done, albeit slowly, thus I'm waiting for the next iPad that ups the Ram and CPU/GPU.

I wonder if the iPad 2 will run iOs 10

People will shoot me down for this one, but I really hope it does. If iOS 10 drops the iPad 2 and the iPad Air 3 is a mediocre update I'll be between a rock and a hard place.

The iPad 2 remains the most used iPad and combined with the Mini 1 which is essentially the same thing, they have about 40 percent of the installed iPad marketshare, that is a lot of iPads. I hope that combined with the new method of supporting older devices that Apple used for iOS 9 mean that A5 devices get a very stripped back version of iOS 10.

What you're saying makes sense, but I honestly doubt we'll see iOS 10 on A5-Devices.

Even a stripped down version would still be basically the same software optimized for 2 GB RAM and many times the CPU/GPU power of an old A5. Supporting those old devices on iOS 9 and trying to not further worsen performance for them but even improving it, probably really held Apple back in terms of cool new stuff. They probably could do a lot more in iOS 10 having to worry only about devices that at least feature an A6 with 1 GB RAM and triple the processing power of the A5.

Nonetheless, I'd really appreciate Apple even further extending the time of software support for iOS devices. I'm already impressed with 5 years for iPhone 4s and 5.5 years for iPad 2, but 6 to 6.5 Years would be insane (-ly great).

When this thing is released some iPad pad pro users will have buyers regret. An air with awesome sound is tempting

"Could"? So it might not have these new features?! We feel cheated already.

"Could" ranks up there with the overuse and misuse of "May" for other headlines, though "Might" would be more accurate since "May" often invokes a clause of permission as opposed to the possibility a new product has a new ore upgraded feature we may or may not care about.

Why can't the media wait for official, proven and confirmed, and real announcements, since speculation is nothing more than glorified vaporware that does readers a disservice and, in a word, is "unfair". Unless the goal is to wind us up to want to buy, since there's no way readers believe the media is using verbiage for cause of "peer association" that can not exist as such, but that seems to be a disparaging way for a cheesy approach.

My wish list, in order of importance,

1. 3D touch
2. Suport for Apple Pencil
3. Four speakers
4. More memory — at least 3gb
5. Faster at same battery life
6. Better cameras
7. Faster touch-id

The more Apple hits of that list, the more likely I will be to upgrade. Honestly 1-3 would probably be enough—the rest are nice to have.

But as I hope Apple is finally coming to understand, what's holding back sales in the iPad—and the watch, cloud services etc.—and is a mid-term threat to the business, is the software.

Agreed. More memory allows a lot more utility and it's never been cheaper. It's not the 1990s where 2MB cost a zillion dollars...

And while it'll be a while before a 3mm sensor can outperform a 30mm sensor that DSLR cameras enjoy, numerous 3mm camera sensors do vary on quality, and shoving in too many pixels leads to more electromigration-induced noise, and using JPG instead of RAW means a loss of detail and color via compression right off the bat. "the megapixel myth" still prevails.

Hardware got Apple to its place of dominance, but it will not keep it there.

Though it is not hardware, but software and uniformity between the devices in its platform, is what got Apple where it was. Hardware is the same off-the-shelf Intel/Windows PC components but running a modified FreeBSD operating system. How Apple innovated it and made any open source OS so easy to use is truly and legitimately unparalleled, I was a Linux user for nigh on a decade and OS X is very slick. As is the concept of the integration between Macs, iPhones, Apple tablets, etc, in Apple's "ecosystem".
