I stand by my statement. You're welcome to mention one example where Apple released a new iPhone that suffered from severe lag with the iOS it came with.

iOS 8.1.1 is buttery smooth on my plus. yeah, it wasn't released with 8.1.1. but it's a recent update.

I haven't actually experience an update to my iPhone 5 that I could say caused a "severe lag". The iPad 4 that my mom uses to watch filipino shows illegally, does indeed lag a bit yes.

I agree! It usually took the 2nd or 3rd iOS update for lag to start kicking in.

The iPhone 4 didn't lag with iOS 4 or 5 and rarely in 6.
The iPhone 4S didn't lag with iOS 5 or 6 or 7.
The iPhone 5 didn't lag in iOS 6 or 7 - rarely in 8.

Whilst I can confirm small performance gains with this on my 4S, I can't stand the horrible dock and folders so I keep transparency on.

It's gotten better, but the weather app will still lag like crazy.

Your first statement was

I'm sorry but the miserable Weather App doesn't equal "the new iPhone suffers from sever lag with the iOS it came with"

It just means that weather app sucks. It's one app. Which i don't even use. But even if you do, it's just 1 app. Get your *** together man, you're more drama than my crazy ex.

I mentioned it as an example since it's easily repeatable, and the app does suffer from severe lag. There are others places, such as tapping the upper part of the screen for automatic scrolling in recents within the phone app, which will sometimes drop frames (if you have around 20-25 recents). Overall I feel the fluidity is not as good as it's been before. Should be noted that I'm not alone in this matter.

You may not use it, but others do. Especially since it's a core app provided with the phone.

Also, please stay on topic and keep your petulant insults for yourself. There's no need for asinine remarks.

What is asinine is judging a whole iOS based on weather app problems.
I just opened it. It doesn't lag. What should i do to make it lag? As of now, it's perfectly usable. And smooth.
As for the call logs i tried it. I have ±50. Is it 60fps? Probably not, but it's so fast that i can't tell. You press it and in a split of a second you are on the top of the list. Who even notices those things? And i didn't insult you. I just pointed out that you're too sensitive to things that don't really matter. And you're making a super big deal about them. That's not an insult.

The weather app lag when expanding/collapsing cities views?

Nightmare on iOS 8 versus iOS 7. If you expand/collapse multiple times you can actually see it vary in smoothness. Yet another woeful iOS 8 bug.

Switch between detailed view and list view and choose different cities. There's a significant amount of lag on the 5, 5S, 6 and 6 Plus.

This is just one of several bugs. This one is really related to performance, but there are other woeful bugs in iOS 8 and it has been noted by a significant amount of people here on this forum. Someone mentioned some bugs that are still in iOS 8 in the 8.1.2 news article update.

I've never even heard about this issues and I hang around Apple-related forums and websites quite a bit. However, I and many others have a ridiculously long laundry list of iOS 8 bugs that haven't even been addressed. How about all the crashing?

My 6 Plus many times can't even switch from one Safari tab to the next without the last one reloading when you go back. I don't even remember my original iPhone with 128MB of RAM being that bad.

Furthermore there are tons of other glitches, like white text overlaying the black status bar text sometimes, rotating video glitches on the Plus, problems with reachability not activating (sometimes it just stops for several minutes and then works fine), or reachability not even working with quick reply which means I can't reach the send button, or the Touch ID dialog screen sometimes freezes up the phone with a dark overlay that makes it impossible to touch anything, or iCloud Photo Library that has never worked, or the shoddy WiFi issues on the Air 2, or problems with slow-mo videos sometimes not recording in slow-mo, or that my share sheets sometimes still lose the order I've set the icons to, and several other things that I can't even recall at the moment.

My iPhone 5 on iOS 7 was much better (software-wise) than my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8. Otherwise the 6 Plus has a gorgeous display, amazing camera, and looks really great.

Then spare me the comparisons to your ex-wife for yourself in the future.

Yeah, that's the one.

Mine doesn't do ANY of that. Macduke isn't some kind of an authority. If his phone doesn't work it's not my problem. iCloud photo library works like a charm. And not only on my plus. On my finances plus/ipad air. Works perfectly. Weather city switching is not a nightmare. It works like it should. If you don't believe me i'll record a video for you. Not a problem. And my ex is not my ex wife. I was wise enough to never marry her.

I neve claimed he was, but there's a significant amount of people who experience problems with iOS 8. If you don't experience these issues, then good, but others do, and that's not something you can refute.

It doesn't work as well as it should.

bring it back to apple, show it to them and demand a swap. if you have applecare+ and they refuse to exchange it for you then just drop it and go and exchange it.

It's a software related issue. All iPhones in the Apple store had it.

Mine and my girlfriends pluses dont have this issue. do I have to repeat myself? If a software works fine on one phone and doesn't on another it's hardware. Send it back

And I'm genuinely surprised how you don't have that issue. There's no need to be rude, but judging by the thread I created about this issue and the fact that every unit at the Apple store suffered from it, I can pretty much conclude it is related to software.

It's not hardware and it honestly makes no sense for it to be a hardware related issue. You don't have to repeat yourself, because there's nothing we can do about it unless Apple fixes it by a software update.

Every 5, 5S and the new devices I've tried have suffered from it since iOS 8, so I can safely say it's software.

It's genuinely a case of the FPS being smooth enough to satisfy your eyes.

It may sound daft but remember there are people out there who can't tell between 30fps and 60fps. There are also people who "can't see" screen tearing on console games no matter how big a screen they play on.

I've sat with a work colleague who has an iPhone 4s on iOS 8 and they maintain to me that there is no difference between their 4s performance and my 5s. Side by side, opening and closing apps, to them the animations are identical in speed and smoothness/fluidity.

When people use the term lag I think people look for massive stuttering. It's not that. The Weather app when expanding/collapsing a city in the list view is a tad slower on iOS than iOS 7. There is the occasional stutter on the way up or down (depending on whether you're expanding or collapsing the view) and oddly enough if you very quickly expand and collapse the same city over and over, you can vary the smoothness/fluidity.

It's definitely software, it's not massively slower but there is a subtle difference noticeable to people who unfortunately are able to see these drops in frame rate with the naked eye.

i can tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps. instantly.

It is EXACTLY that. This dude said numerous times that it's a "lagfest" "sever lag" "significant framerate drop". There ISN'T. Does the weather app lag A LITTLE? Yes, it does. it might be form 60fps to 40fps or even 30fps, but it's not a "nightmare". And it's 1-2 apps. Calling iOS 8 a POS because there are a couple of not perfect animations doesn't mean it's a POS. That's all. If his phone exhibits a "lagfest" "a significant framerate drop" and is just a plain nightmare to use, i suggest his phone is faulty and he exchanges it. because a normal phone is not like that, at all.

I offered you to make a video and show you you're wrong. You disregarded it and continued to push your opinion. I'm not rude. You implicitly called me a liar. I'm not surprised at all. I'd be more surprised if 10+ millions of iPhones were working as you described it.

So I've been toying with the idea of updating my iPad Air to iOS 8 again, so I took a trip to the Apple store and played around with an iPad Air on iOS 8.1.1 side by side with an iPad Air 2 and my own iPad Air on iOS 7.1.2.

Suffice to say, I won't be updating.

The two major UI "bugs" remain.

Stutter when tapping the omnibar in Safari and the keyboard/favourites box appears on screen (stutter is in the animation where the address of the site you're on highlights grey and slides left to reveal the full address).

The second is the slower FPS when going into Spotlight. On iOS 8 the entire home screen had a layer of blur, whereas on iOS 7 there was no blur on the home screen behind the Spotlight box and keyboard. The animation when the keyboard comes on screen is as smooth on iOS 7.1.2 as it is on the iPad Air 2, but the iPad Air 1 on iOS 8.1.1 has slight stutter and is noticeably slower.

That extra layer of blur shouldn't be causing it though, because both Safari's menubar has transparency in iOS 7 and the Notification Center in iOS 7 is full screen blur with no ill effects on animations.

I suppose they have to do something to make the iPad Air and a Air 2 feel different to the average consumer at a quick glance, because right now 99 % of apps run identical on both tablets bar slightly quicker loading times.

It's very sad users have to be looking for tricks like this to speed up things in just one year old devices.

Decepcion and shame with Apple and ios8

Apple, let users the right to dowgrade, let users to have theirs iDevices like they bought them

Unfortunately, I won't make a video and post it online (privacy), but as you can see, RebornProphet, knows exactly what I'm talking about (he is also experiencing it). Ironically, waiting a second or two while expanding and collapsing cities will make it drop more frames, which he mentioned.

I made a thread about this which gained traction and others have been experiencing the same issue.

Same deal with my iPad 4. Runs noticeably better on the a6x with transparency turned off as with the iPhone 5. Bummer though considering even my older iPad 2 ran ios 7 fairly well and the 4 could barely run the 2nd update
