mine doesn't do that and doesn't lag. it actually feels faster than iOS 7. but i noticed that a lot of times the same hardware doesn't really behave the same way, at least according to this forum.

Maybe you just don't have an eye for stuff like that, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I've used several 1st gen iPad Airs (including my own and many store models, in different stores too) and I notice the same lag and stuttering on all of them, whether it be rotating with the keyboard up, rotating in Spotlight, the pinch home animation, etc. Maybe you got a 1st gen Air with an A8X chip, I don't know. But the lag is definitely there whether we see it or not.

I have personally come to not care about the ugly look of the Reduce Transparency feature. I only notice it in 2 places (the dock background and Notification center) and I'm not around those areas often.

Bingo.

I'm keeping my Air on 7.1.2 which is as smooth, UI wise, as 8.1.2 is on the Air 2. There is no reason for the Air 1 to have these areas where it lags a little, as there are many transparency effects all over iOS 7 also.

And besides, Jet Set Radio doesn't work with iOS 8 and I have a Steelseries Stratus XL under the tree from my wife. :D

Which brings me to my next point. iOS settings have got more complicated with each release. I consider myself a geek but I start to lose track with every new revision.

Are there any user interface experts here? How do simplify all this stuff and keep everyone happy? Or is it just a case of setting the defaults and be done with it?

There were people complaining about no customisation options, now there are people complaining about too many options......

I'll say this: We iOS users bitch and moan about "slight" stuttering.

I was at Best Buy today and every single Android tablet I played around with all had SIGNIFICANTLY more lag and stuttering than my iPad Air on iOS 8, with or without Reduced Transparency (yes I'm including Nexus devices). At the end of the day, the iPad Air is still plenty fast on iOS 8 and we should always remember it isn't always greener on the other side.

I am completely fine with the slight stuttering as well. Dropped frames in a few of the animations doesn't make the device any slower.

I too don't see why others complain about such a minor issue. Don't complain about every little issue, instead, just use iPad.

F***in apple wants us to suffer from stutter and lag so they made the dock and folders ugly as POS, when reduce transparency is on. I remember clearly when on iOS 7 the dock and folders would still have clean look while all other parts of the OS have non-blur look.

My iPod 5 runs 7.1.2 and it gets ugly with that reduced transparency feature. It was only on iPhone 4 and iPad 2 where transparency remains permanently off but dock and folders are still nice

The beta? So they finally fixed it? No frames dropping when expanding and collapsing cities?

8.2 beta 3 on iPhone 5c

Weather app still drops frames (stutters) while tapping to expand a city name. But for collapsing, it is 60 fps just like iOS 7.1.2

My inaccurate 240 fps testing concludes that the stutter is noticed when animation is rendered at just 10 fps.

When reduce transparency is enabled, you can't see what keys are being pressed on the white keyboard. Just me?

No that's not just you. It's just a horrendously sloppy bug that made it into the public release of iOS 8 for ALL iPads. No idea how that happened but... It's there.

The weather app lag is fixed on beta 3, I have it on a 4s and the lag is gone, ON A 4S.

That's disappointing.

Lol, I'm just going to have to wait for the final release then.
