If you want something that has the same form factor and will withstand drops expect to pay way more than you would want to.

Drop anything made of these materials and the consequences will be the same.

This is a non-issue.

People actually needed a video to know that their iPad Air would be broken if dropped.

I just noticed something,

Watching disassembling videos and looking at my broken-glass ipad, I noticed that the area between the screen and the top (where the front camera is) is hollow. The thin glass has no back support there and this is where it failed in my ipad. The 4G antenna is in this space in the other model. Maybe in the wifi +4g the glass has more support, but in the wifi-only this area is a serious weak point.

Go ahead and try it on your wifi ipad air. Press the area just to the left of the front camera a bit firmly with your thumb and post what happens (I'm kidding of course, don't do it).

It is an issue.

The iPad air is not sold to be put in a locked plexiglass box in the middle of your living room, or to be handled like fine china. It is sold as portable and to be used everyday. It doesn't matter how cautious you are, if you use it everyday at some point it will be dropped. And if the glass shatters so easily in such an expensive device, then yes, it is a big deal issue.

Rolex watches are a status symbol for many, but they are a sporting watch used for yachting, diving, mountaineering, etc. Drop one on the floor, and there's a good chance its sapphire crystal will break. I use a Seiko while sailing, and can tell you that watches are subjected to a lot of abuse. A new crystal for my Seiko chronometer would cost well over $100 to replace properly, and a Rolex is around $1,000.

Take care of your breakables. ;)

same people that need the 'contents may be hot after heating' on microwave meals

That's too funny......but true for some. :D

After posting, it occurred to me that some here might have had babies at one point. Did you drop them? Those buggers have to be carried, and they squirm. A squirming iPad would be worrisome, but I bought the sedated model. :D

I gotta say results are very disappointing. I thought Apple was known for its build quality. Apple has downgraded quality over higher margins and the results of this test show that the iPad is no better than its cheap crappy plastic Android competition. The hollow front really just gave me a headache.

PS. If you want to see quality build check out iPhone 5s droptest. Amazing results on that.
