Is there any negatives to buying from a 3rd party site like Quill or even Target or BestBuy? If I have issues with the iPad, can I bring it to the Apple Store?

If you buy at an Apple store and there's a problem, they'll exchange it on the spot most times. If you have a problem with something bought elsewhere, you will need a Genius Bar appointment, which is generally more time consuming.

With a $30 difference... bigger screen and "slightly" better performance, who would buy an rMini over this???

Someone who value portability, size and the lighter weight? I'm sure there are people who wouldn't mind paying more to have a mini if they value the things I have mentioned above.

PST. It's that important.

Yes, it is. If you ordered at 9AM PST (and ordered a white 16GB), and your order doesn't go through, mine won't either.

Edit: It is 5:16AM EST and I can no longer access my order history. As a reminder, I ordered at 12:27PM EST.

I was denied service on an iPhone 5 at apple initially until I reminded them that they have to cover it (nick gate). They told me to bring it back to best buy, which is where I brought it.

If you buy third party, and you do need an exchange, you will need to get a Genius Bar replacement unit, which is a refurbished unit no matter what anyone tells you. But you will need this outside of the normal return period anyways.

Depending on the third party, their return policy may not be as nice. Best buy has given me problems in the past.

I personally prefer apple unless the discount is $50 or more elsewhere.

Size + weight = portability, so how is the Mini any more portable? The Air is relatively the same weight as the Mini. The Mini is .09lbs per inch and the Air is .11lbs per inch. Both iPads require some type of bag as most people aren't going to go around with their iPad in their ridiculously over sized pockets. For $30 you get 2" of more love. It's a moot point since its back up to $449 but even for $50 more its still not unreasonable.

I have an air. Trust me the mini is much more portable. I forgot how small it is until seeing it in person. So I understand where he is coming from.

I guess technically it is smaller and lighter which means more portable until you throw in the bag argument. You aren't going to carry it in in your hands everywhere you go anyway and a pocket isn't really an option because A. most people don't want a square bulge protruding from their pants (assuming anyone even has big enough pockets for this) and B. Winter only comes once a year and you don't always need a jacket. Plus, even a Mini in a jacket is a bit cumbersome.

Orders are being cancelled over at slickdeals. I'll wait til I have shipping info before I consider this a good deal

Probably true if all one wears are stretchy jeans and skintight t-shirts.

Normal size sport coat / jacket pockets hold a mini just fine.

Just curious, are you talking from any actual experience with either size device?

Yes, absolutely. I bought the rMini because I wanted to like it / keep it over the Air because of the reasons that MOST go with it. What I found is that the reasons people buy it are illusions in my opinion.

First - there used to be a $170 difference between the two models. Now, there's only a $100 difference and they're both virtually identical except screen size.

Second, I don't feel comfortable carrying something so large hidden in my jacket since I could easily bump into something or someone and it would break. Plus, it has to be cold to even warrant a jacket. Otherwise, I'm going to have to bring a bag with my camera (which I would be doing anyway) and laptop and other necessities, so what is 2 inches going to matter if I'm putting it in a bag anyway?

Third, there is virtually no difference in the footprint.

Fourth, reading is worse, or was for me. I read on the web and not just books and web browsing wasn't acceptable for me. Text was way too small even with Retina quality text.

I feel going with the Mini involves tradeoffs and what you gain versus what you give up isn't worth it in my opinion. Plus, I wasn't willing to accept the sub-par colors.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Mini, and I could afford having both if I wanted, but I just don't feel like its as great all around of a device as the Air.

My order got cancelled too by the way, so moot point of them only being a $30 difference. But hell, even at a $100 difference, thats a $70 decrease from last year's models and the difference between the two is negligible.

No worries, sounds like you know what works for your situation! :)

Anyones order from Quill actually go through? Seems like a lot of cancellations. Mine isn't even showing up on their website anymore.
