But I need to know right now if my Air purchase will still be amazing once the Air 2 is announced! :D

Take this years iPad mini with retina. Last year, the origional iPad mini came out, and was a the best device put at the time, but new stuff comes out, such as the retina mini and makes it not is great, is the iPad mini still awesome? Heck yeah!

When Apple/Microsoft/other 3rd party software makers transform my iPad into a productivity tool that is actually more efficient than my laptop (rather than just more comfortable) I will be happy to upgrade.

Until then the iPad Air will do.

Also I desperately need to take a break from the gadget purchases this year. I've bought a new laptop, 2 new tablets, and a new phone within a year's time. I think enough is enough...

The iPad Air is the one to skip, the iPad Air 2 is the one to get when it has a proper 2 GB of RAM to run the 64 bit OS.

If Ipad Air 2 is just finger print + A8 and a few more tweaks like Ipad 4 over 3 will you stick with Ipad Air? Oh I reckon they will do a gold Ipad Air and that will be the final change for this year.

I skipped the Ipad 4 as Ipad 3 was almost the same.

I don't skip any version. Why would I? This is my 5th iPad. They hold their value SO well that, after the initial cost, it has only been about $60/year to own the latest. That's right. If you buy a new iPad for $500, its resale value will be $440 at the time a new one is introduced. I am FAR from wealthy, but a mere $5/months total cost to ALWAYS have the latest & greatest is, to me, a no-brainer.

I absolutely LOVE TouchID on my 5S & have already, multiple times, caught myself absent-mindedly sitting patiently w/ my thumb on my iPad's home button.. waiting for it to unlock, lol! That feature alone is worth the $60 to me. A new lower-power proc that gives better battery life would be welcome as well.

Doesn't really work out that way if you get the top end models or if the iPad gets handed down to family members. The 128GB LTE is $929 (for me, over $1K with tax) and you lose quite a chunk when reselling.

If you have bought an iPad Air, I see little point in buying the second generation just a year later. Regardless of features its a waste of money IMO.
