I don't know how you can justify an 8GB iPhone 4S. Please, enlighten me. The iWork apps alone take 5-6 GB.

They do? Not sure they do even on OSX. According to iTunes Pages takes 266MB, Numbers 234MB and Keynote the fattest at 463MB. Some way less than 1GB by my reckoning.

People with 8GB phones are not that interested in downloading a lot of hefty apps. My sister is one of those. She has had an Android phone and now has a Windows phone and has yet to download a single app on either. Her Windows phone only has 4GB of space for the OS and all apps. She will never fill it.

If you order online, you pay online, it is not a reservation.

So I doubt they got two shipments in 2 hours. Plus given the fact of what the apple employee told me last year.

1. Yeah they might have. Stores get shipments from up to four different carriers.
2. Regardless, whatever they did a year ago (nice trick changing the time to be more current to try to validate your claims) doesn't matter. They change policy every day sometimes. So even if you got your information just last year and at that time they withheld some stock for walk ins, doesn't equal they will do it now. Double when you consider the public flogging they got over the resellers at the 5S launch. If ever there was a reason to just let it all go to online buys and have no walk ins even on launch day that would be the one. Especially if they publish the buy online protocol well in advance on several fronts like email, their sites, push alerts to everyone with the Apple Store app etc

----------

It's not even going to matter. There will be ample supply

Or not. they will make a best guess at the raise in demand over previous years but even if they think it will be 4x they could be wrong and it's 6, 8 or even 10x.

They have already admitted this is a major possibility with the Retina Mini

I have no idea what we're even talking about at this point.
I'm going to stick with my belief of not getting two shipments in one day. I'll stick with the notion of them not selling all their stock online to only have people who've been sleeping outside for 2 days not being able to get one because they sold all of there stock to the people who preordered at midnight.

And since it happened to me...I'll stick with my way of thinking.

I have never been at an Apple store on launch day and never used personal pickup. I am planning on going to the Apple store early (6ish) on Friday to get in line for the iPad Air.

Would I be better off ordering it online for personal pickup and still going to the store early (to get in line) or is there a chance that if that happens my personal pickup will not be available when they open at 8am and I'll have to wait a long time for it to be ready?

Since you say that personal pickup is not a reservation, it makes me think twice about using it instead of just waiting in line.

Your guess is as good as anyone's. I am going to order online and pick up later Friday, if it is an option.

Exactly. I believe all that I said was the I agree with the poster 100% (his/her comment was something regarding waiting until the iPad has touch id). There was nothing vocal about my initial comment.

Yeah not targeting you... just people LIKE you. Kidding, kidding.

Wife authorized my thumb for her 5s, still think I would prefer a smart cover + no lockscreen to maximize usability of iPad. Then jailbreak to suppress slide-unlock when there is a stable untethered one available.

My life mission is to avoid slide-to-unlock.

One possible reason Apple still manufactures the iPad 2, and a very compelling reason for them to continue doing so (if I am right), is that government institutions typically take a long time to approve the use of a new device (particularly aviation and defense / military) - it could take years. The iPad 2 has been approved for use in several factions of government, newer iPad versions have not. If they stop making the iPad 2 then Apple will be losing sales to those government institutions until a newer iPad is approved by them for use as a replacement to the iPad 2. I am guessing at some point next year Apple will replace the low-end iPad 2 option, especially if they come out with an iPad Pro. This whole post is just a guess though.

So I just did the online chat with apple. They said they don't know what time it will go on sale online. Just check tomorrow. WTF  Did anyone see a confirmation of 3 am EST?

Malls can open early to accommodate this kind of thing. Especially when Apple is what keeps folks coming there outside of holiday season.

They also often make the Apple store hire their own security for the lines or pay extra to the mall to cover the extra needed mall staff.

He said that they have no real clue what demand will be like so there won't likely be enough. Not really the same.

Your version implies they know the demand and they know they don't have enough.

So I guess it didn't occur to you that they might have just checked in a shipment of phones. Or even physically received it and someone was checking if the phone your friend wanted was on the list and they were going to be nice and flip it as received so she could buy it. Again to be nice.

It's not about what I think but what I know. And I know that you stated your information was from 'a few years ago' and I know that my information is from the gent i live with who works at an Apple Store right now. So I know that my information is a bit more current than 'a few years ago'.

Now you can choose to think that you know the way things currently are and I'm a moron or not. Same with everyone else on this forum, I really don't care either way. But whether you think me a moron or not won't stop me from posting information from my source or pointing out where you or anyone else is very likely wrong.

If that is a problem for you then I invite you to invoke the great forum feature called the ignore list

There you are... :D
