There are a vocal number of individuals that seem to think that Apple has given us a lump of coal for Christmas, instead of carefully calibrating what they think is a viable product in today's marketplace.

Exactly. I believe all that I said was the I agree with the poster 100% (his/her comment was something regarding waiting until the iPad has touch id). There was nothing vocal about my initial comment.

This is very good. What it means is: I will be holding an iPad Air on Friday, which, by my calculation is like a 4 measly days from the present. :)

Loved the mini when it came out and the new one with Retina and an upgraded processor makes even more sense.
True. Its a great hardware update for sure. Still the screen is kind of tiny, if you're used to an iPad 3. The text-heavy iOS 7 is already looking very thin on a normal iPad, how will it look on an Retina mini? I can't imagine.
But: with a bigger iPhone coming out next year I don't want two small portable devices and may now go back to a full size ipad which together with the bigger iPhone will be a perfect combination.
If there is a bigger iPhone 6, I doubt that it will have more pixels. With iPad mini and Air now having the same resolution, as well as iPhone 5s and 5c, I consider this transition to be over. There is one fixed size for iPhone apps and one fixed size for iPad apps. If the iPhone goes bigger, it will just stretch out the same amount of pixels.

Okay. Let me get this straight. I can pre-order and stroll in for pick up at 8:00 a.m. And bypass the line of those that didn't pre-order?

(OLD OLD) New iPad, the (OLD) New iPad, the iPad Air. Honestly I think the market is saturated with 'New' iPads right now. Apple has kind of lost their way with a fragmented line of iPads. C'mon retire the iPad 2!

They just sell two big iPads: iPad Air and the iPad 2. Where is the fragmentation?

Wow, how aggressive. Nice way to get your point across, by the way. The best way to get somebody to listen to you is to jump down their throats.

I don't know how you can justify an 8GB iPhone 4S. Please, enlighten me. The iWork apps alone take 5-6 GB. The OS takes a good few GB. You've got nothing left. Yes, the 4S is a fine phone -- the 8GB storage isn't. If you really think it's acceptable for a company of Apple's caliber to still be selling 8GB phones in 2013, there's absolutely no point in continuing this argument. I envy your level of ignorance.

Guess what? People can still use Apple products but be disappointed with certain elements of the company. But I guess expressing my opinion now constitutes as 'bitching', in your eyes.

Then they can return it if they don't like it. But it seems many people do.

Because the iPad 2 is a dog compared to any of the other models. Apple is a quality brand; the mentality used to be that it didn't matter what Apple product you bought, as it would always be something that would last and was always fairly updated compared to last year's model.

This is nothing short of exploiting consumers who are paying far too much for a product that should arguably already be obsolete. I genuinely can't see how they can justify this pricing for an iPad 2. Apple claim to only sell products they'd use themselves. Say what you want, but Ive/Cook would be tearing their hair out if they were stuck with an iPad 2 as their only tablet.

Hey, I am using the iPad two! :) Whats wrong with that? I don't see any reason to upgrade. It's not a phone that gets tossed around and has scratches and dents all over. You can use your iPad for years without the need for a replacement.

And for your comment why they still sell it, well people still buy it. I may need a present for my grandma for xmas and I may be buying the iPad 2 for her. She doesn't need the latest and most expensive iPad, yet I want her to be in the Apple eco system and free of the Android problems. Plus her vision is not that great so she will not need the retina iPad. :)

I hope you don't feel I insulted you! I just find the iPad 2 to be an absolute dog on iOS 7. It was a great product at the time, but even now it's starting to struggle. And with Apple selling it at this price, it's just too much for too little -- it's not really futureproof compared to the iPad 3 or iPad 4, IMHO.

However, your mileage may vary! Unfortunately I've had nothing but bad experiences with iOS 7 on an iPad 2, it just doesn't quite cut 'Apple quality' to me. But I am sorry if you felt I was being a little misinformed or ignorant; I do have a tendency to overstate my opinion sometimes.

No worries. :)

I just don't feel the urge to update every two years like with my iPhone. Since I had no problems I will continue to use my iPad 2 for a few more years to come. Sure I would like it to be lighter, sure I would like it to have Touch ID next year. But these are not my priorities.

On the other hand I would replace my Apple TV the same second Apple includes a CEC integration, e.g. as soon as my Apple TV can wake up my TV set.

So I guess everybody has its own priorities. To some the "old" iPad 2 has the value they are willing to pay. That was my only point. ;)

I don't think it's going to be that fast. I believe it's later in the day from what the article said.

I think your probably right. I called my local Apple Store, and frankly the floor guys don't seem to know a lot. He didn't know about whether or not the In-Store Pickup would really be available. If it was he speculated that those doing In-Store would have to wait while they sorted out the pre-orders. He seemed to think an hour. In other words, if your an early bird without In-Store you'd have to wait while they sorted it out. He did not think they held back an assortment of iPads for those in line as opposed to In-Store pick-up pre-order. Maybe it really doesn't matter if they have a good stock.

Again, the store guy was speculating. I don't know if this was on purpose to keep the hype going, or he really didn't know.

I'm still using an iPad2 so I guess it would not be the end of the world if I didn't snag on the first day, and of course I could actually see one before I buy. The iPad Air vs. the iPad Mini w/retina is still causing me to wonder what I'd like best.

Good luck everyone. I hope you get what you want when you want it:D

Oh..I get it. You are in the wrong thread.
Uh, no.
The article is how the iPad will go on sale Friday, both in store and online starting at 12:01 am.

I will have no reservations in getting a new iPad air to replace my 3rd gen iPad. I've upgraded every year, and this upgrade is good enough to keep me doing so. Bravo Apple.

I will rather wait for some report first. If just same A7 as of iPhone 5S, that means not much difference to A6X in the 4th gen iPad. On the other hand, more or less only smaller and lighter. As I am using 3rd gen already, it's not that sound to make an upgrade.

I think nothing wrong with iPad 2 as well. Indeed I am still using iPad (1st gen) for myself (Yes. It's still working perfectly, that's one beauty I liked Apple product so much, Though many new apps couldn't run on that as it can only run 5.1.1) . iPad 3 gen for my little boy.

But consider you get 4-8 times CPU upgrade, lighter in weight, Retina screen (which should be good for your eyes), you 'may' consider an upgrade as your iPad 2 may still sell at a reasonable money.

Or this is about the resellers

They tend to not order online out of fear there is a way to track them and shut them down.

So let everyone else order and secure theirs and the resellers have fewer they can get. If any

Nice. Still would have been better to have pre-orders and have them delivered to your home on Friday. But I'm guessing they want the in-store rush.

Actually this can better. You pay online so it is locked in. And you get like a week to go pick it up before it is auto returned. Which can be faster than online shipping.

Some folks don't have offices that let you receive personal packages or homes safe enough to leave it or let a neighbor sign. So getting it at a store is their only choice

And the stores will have the rush anyway. But this way might reduce resellers getting tons of units

----------

The name implies an impending iPad Pro product which will exist alongside the iPad Air product line.

Not really. Apple has a history of not numbering all iPad models so that could be all this is

----------

Since you do it frequently, mind answering.. do you make your payment online beforehand, or can you wait until you get to the store and pay when you pick it up?

You pay online. The article really needs to be corrected because it's not a reservation but full purchase

----------

It's cute that apple thinks setting up in store pick up means you don't have wait in line. The only thing in store pick up does is guarantee you a product.

So you would rather wait in line all day with no guarantees and go home empty handed?

----------

So if I'm planning to go around 2:30 after work, is it necessary to reserve one for personal pick up or will they have them in stock? I'm worried more about them having my model than waiting in line.

Which is the most popular iPad air model? I'm planning on getting 32GB Wifi only

They would likely not have any. Personal pickup is NOT a reservation. It is a fully paid purchase. Which means they can not sell it to anyone else etc. Do it and know they have it for you.

----------

Yes, it is Apple's fault. Jobs once said that consumers pay Apple to make the choices for them.

And? Jobs is dead. What he said is moot at this point.
