Those who want the iPad to be extended to meet their more extensive computing needs are almost certain to be disappointed. Not only would such extensions complicate life for the market above, the form factor required would almost certainly (at least with today's technology) make the iPad too large and heavy to be the highly portable device it is today.

Which features are you referring to?
Seems like for my computer needs a MBA with a streaming setup (iCloud or other) is all I need.
The features I was referring to include a more powerful processor, true multi-tasking, extended external storage, a screen with greater capacity (not just density), an adequate physical keyboard, etc.
In other words, the features that (as you note) are beginning to be available in some more expensive "ultraportables." But with those features come more heat (and the need for better cooling), a larger form factor, more battery capacity, more weight, etc. etc.
And with all of that you no longer have an iPad. What you have, as you've noted, is something along the lines of a MBA or (if you're looking for tablet functionality, as well) a Lenovo ThinkPad X220T.
I was simply pointing out that trying to extend the iPad's relatively simple functionality without transforming it into something else, altogether, is a bit like putting a pickup bed on a Mini.
