adapter

Well the adapter is nice, but it should be included...how the hell can you charge for something that should be included with a computer...$29 for something that costs .50 to make? ouch

Keyboard Dock Shipping 4/15

FWIW, my account status shows the Keyboard Dock shipping on 4/15. At least I'll have my iPad for my upcoming conference and vacation.

By the time you add all these clunky accessories, it will cost as much as a real computer.

I agree and I am still a bit lost on why anyone would really even need this thing? A simple 3Gs iPod with front and rear facing cameras capable of recording video etc. would have been a much better product in my opinion.

Clunky is right. The keyboard dock is particularly kludgy. I'm surprised Apple has even released it. If one is going to travel with that keyboard dock along with an iPad, one would be better of just taking a 13" MBP; at least a MBP folds shut and flat in one nice self-contained package.

"The iPad must do this!" "The iPad must be able to do that."
Yesh, the iPad will already will already be able to do your homework. What else do you need!?

Heh, how weak. I thought simplicity would have been key with such a device and peripherals would have been kept to a minimum. Here comes the flood of port adapters I guess :(.

I think an SD card reader should have been built in... think it would have made a lot of people happier including myself.

That's not how the Apple profit model works. You buy the Mac/iPhone/iPad, etc and then have to spend $150 on accessories to actually use the device effectively. That's where the profit margin is.

Of course. But then Apple would not be able to charge you $100 for 16GB (or 32GB) extra storage. The lack of ports on Apple products is just ridiculous. They are starting to behave worse than Microsoft. I will leave the sick Apple ecosystem as soon as I can.

Oh, the most important thing is that "anything that does not need to be there is not there"... together with all the things that need to be there.

So we will still not see wifi file transfer even though the ipad has N.

Lame.

Maybe next version will have it seem unproductive that I can download file after file from store but I can't use the same mechanism (wifi) to do it from home.

Remind me.......

How much is just a SD card reader adaptor for a PC ?

5 dollars?

I bought one for my PC which has slots that take 6 physically different cards and it ws only about 10 dollars.

So it's 30 dollars for just a SD reader from Apple?

I just saw Molly Wood falling in love with an HTC phone. Front-facing camera, 8MP on the back, pretty large screen, 1GHz... It sounded pretty impressive. But who wants a contract just to have a gadget like that?

I agree that some souped-up Touch (if that's what you meant) would be great. I would supply my family members with them. The iPod Touch is actually one of the best products that Apple had for a very long time. I like my iPhone, but the limitations and the price don't really match.

Apple would get away with charging more for the Touch if they put a few more functions. They would really push a wider audience into their ecosystem.

Yep.

i want a lot more

"The iPad must do this!" "The iPad must be able to do that."

If my car could not take me from point a to point b as safe as possible I would not buy it, maybe you would.

the ipad is a nice product, but considering there is already the technology and cpu capacity in the ipad to do it, i see how it would be hard to put two small cameras to make it more of a tool you could not olive without.

wifi file transfer would also have been a great new thing. but hey I am not a fanboy so to me my money goes to the product that makes sense for the job, and nothing else.

C If one is going to travel with that keyboard dock along with an iPad,

But you don't have to travel with the keyboard dock. That is the essential point. With the more traditional format you have to carry around the extra weight and size of a keyboard. With the iPad you do not. You could buy a keyboard dock for home (or office ) and leave it there.

If what you do while mobile requires high keyboard use then don't buy an iPad. It isn't trying to be the "be everything to everybody" device any more than a hammer is trying to be a screwdriver. Right tool for the right job.

Right tool for exactly what? Browsing the web and writing e-mails? The only thing I need (and use my slate-) tablet is totake notes at lectures... Oh, you need a stylus support for that, right?

Ugh, yet another dongle trying to make a giant iPod into a real computer.

Steve is trying to bang this square block into a round hole as hard as he can.

I would much rather buy a cheaper Windows tablet with full ports, full OS, handwriting recognition/stylus, etc. Either that, or a cheaper Windows Netbook that I can install a Pixel Qi screen into, with the DIY kits that will be out by summer. Steve is driving me back into the Windows world.

It isn't the cost that is the limiting factor. It is size and weight more likely. The edges are tampered down on the iPad. Likewise the border is limited in width (have to avoid running the slot mechanism into the screen. ).

If iPad was thicker could more easily accommodate the mechanism. However, since made of aluminum, thicker will also lead to more weight.

I'm sure devices that are heavier, thicker, and/or less rigid that will show up on the market. However, will be telling when someone arrives that matches on all other qualities ( battery life , weight, rigidity , etc. ) and also has a full size SD slot.

Actually, I've bought an old (and super cheap) slate tablet from Fujitsu on ebay. If you put one of those Intel MLC or even SLC SSDs (much faster than the ones used by Apple) inside, its fast as hell. You run either Win + MS OneNote (the single good piece of software by Microsoft), or install Linux + Xournal (with that you can write notes + organize and annotate pdfs at a single location). That is something useful, not playing movies or watching photos on a stupid iPad, where you are allowed to do only what Steve & co. *believe* is good for you.

I bought a USB SD card reader for $0.25 once.

Really, if I was going to buy an iPad, I would just buy a 3rd party adaptor (where it could also potentially be used to move other file types besides just photos).

Power adapter is not shipping until May? Does that mean you're stuck with charging through your computer ala iPods? Lame_ass!
Let us just jump to conclusions and start name calling. Whine whine whine. Bunch of 3 year olds troll here.

Let's see. I've already been warned once about inflammatory posting so I figure I'll use my second strike now.

I understand that everybody is entitled to their opinion but has thus forum become a haven for whiners? Seems that it just keeps getting worse. So...for all of you who have complained that the iPad feature set sucks and are now complaining that you can't get your camera connector kit when you want it, might I offer you a bite of this **** sandwich I have just prepared?

:)

Well, if you ask me, it's the Apple products that are getting worse and worse in the first place. The whines just follow...
