So news from the one dead pixel problem I posted about earlier.

The guy at the Apple Genius bar had a look and replaced it for me. He was initially told that they were out of stock of my model, but he was actually very persistent and checked everywhere. They had one left in the basement.

He let me quickly activate to see if the new one has a good screen. I'm now happily syncing my iPad from my previous one's backup.

Actually, I don't think that many people had issues with dead pixels this time. There will always be machines with problems, but this time there isn't as many.

Thanks for the update and check mine using the link and no dead pixels on mine so far knock knock:D

I also have 2 dead pixels. I have an appointment tomorrow to get it replaced. There is also a part of the screen with a piece of dirt or something under it.

And I agree, once you find a dead pixel you can not stop looking at it.

I'm just hoping I do not travel an hour to the store to find out they are out of stock, but I am told they get shipments daily.

I just had a dead pixel show up today on my release day iPad. I'll be going back to the store tomorrow to exchange it for a new one.

Quite unlikely. You sure you just didn't notice it from day 1? I have owned well over a hundred LCD-based devices in my time, and I've never had a dead/stuck pixel show up after using the screen for a time. Not saying it's NOT possible, but I've never seen it happen.

Quite likely, actually.
It happened to me twice, once with my iPhone 3GS (stuck pixel after a month)and then with a MacBook (dead pixel after a few weeks).

Lucky number 3!

On my third iPad and finally have an undead pixel screen! I got mine the release day and it wasn't until Monday night I realizied it, I probably thought it was a spec of dust. I went online and saved pictures of an all white, red, green, blue, and black screen and showed the mac genious. No questions asked and I was out in 15 minutes each time, minus the $100 in accessories they got me with (how does that happen?).

The only pain is since I ordered online and got the apple care I have to call and switch the serial numbers. I was smart and waited until I was sure there were no issues before doing so!

What do I need to bring with my iPad for exchange

Hey everyone, I found an dead pixal as well. I just want to know, do I need bring the box, cable, charger and manual with my iPad in order to get a new one? Many thanks!

When I arrived, he asked me if I had my box with me or not. I didn't, but the replacement still happened.

I'd say bring it with to make it easier.

Today I went to get a replacement, the first replacement took a while, looked good, went outside, while waiting to sit down to eat I notice this ipad also has dirt or lint under the screen above the home button, just like last time.

This time I went in, the manager exchanged it out right away, the 3rd ipad looks to be flawless.

yay :)

I too have a dead pixel (black) on the edge of my screen but there isn't an apple store anywhere near me and you can't really see it unless your looking for it so I don't think its worth the hassle of having to mail it back. :(

I'm surprised though that the Apple Stores you guys went to allowed you to swap them over and over due to 1 dead or stuck pixel. A lot of TV and monitor companies only allow it over 6 or more as an example. Pretty good service. Just wish I had a local Apple Store :D (closest one is 6 hours away! )

#5

Tonight I'm off to the Apple store to get my 5th iPad....
cause of exchanges

#1 aluminum dust under screen
#2 dead pixel
#3 "contamination" under glass resulting in dark spot
#4 aluminum dust under screen
...
#5 will be perfect, right?

Man I Hope.

What has been the success rate for the people exchanging their iPads? I just noticed a dead pixel on mine and there seems to be something else under the screen. I've got an appointment for tomorrow to have them look at it. Not really sure what they will do for me. If I spent the money on this thing I would like it to be perfect.

Dead/stuck pixel after 4.2 update?

First iPad 16 GB wifi noticed dead/stuck pixel less then a week after purchase; seemed to appear magically from nowhere so I took it back to Wal-Mart (they sell Apple products in my area) and exchanged it for another one. This time, the first thing I did was the dead pixel test with the W R G Y B background and iPad was fine. Then updated to latest software, 4.2, and then noticed a dead pixel! This was all on the same day. First iPad didn't have a dead pixel until after update too. Anyone else notice this or is this just a coincidence or do you think Wally World just got a bad shipment? I was thinking about downgrading back to old software to see if dead/stuck pixel disappears?

I have a feeling if more people cared to check they would see a few dead pixels or dust.

Key words are in bold.

I'm pretty sure that most people don't care...a pixel or two won't ruin lives or cause people to slit wrists...unless they're OCD, that is.

<shrug>

For those people that are spending extensive time trying to determine if they've dead pixels....if you've to look that hard, you're just looking for excuses to return, IMO.

There's no such thing as as bad shipment with random dead pixels, I'd imagine. I'd say you just didn't notice it. Pixels aren't going to go bad because of a software update.
