Thanks for the information

I thought my Ipad has just died. I was using it, set it down with 76% battery
still left and the screen went blank. I tapped the screen, hit the home button, held the on button, but the Ipad would not come back to life. I panicked because my laptop screen had just died and my Ipad was my back up temporary communication device. Thanks to this forum, I tried holding the home key and on button for 1 min, and the Ipad came back to life. So it worked! Thanks!
My Ipad is not that old, so I was baffled thinking it may have already gone bad. First Apple product and I am thinking of buying an Apple Lap top. Don't know whether to buy the Mac Book Pro or a Mac Air? Any recommendations?

OK

This kept happening on my iPad 1. The first time it happened, I reset it as described in this thread and thought the worst was over. I also noticed that when it died, it drained the battery to 0% quickly, thus having to plug it into a wall charger so as to build up enough charge to restart (this took a couple of minutes or so).

But it kept happening again and again until finally I took it into the Apple Store and they replaced it with a refurb. They tested it and didn't find anything wrong with it, leading me to believe it's somehow hardware related. So far, the refurb is working perfectly, but I wonder if it eventually will experience the same fate. BTW, my iPad 1 wasn't jailbroken.
