I'm sorry. I don't don't see it either.

Here's a suggestion, people need to stop looking at their iPads with all black or all white screens looking for the most minute screen defects. I'm not discounting the fact that there are screens with significant flaws but I wonder how many people would ever notice some of these minute defects is they never read some of these MR threads and then go looking for them.

If you need a white screen set at a specific setting to identify a variation, it's probably not that big a deal. I don't know about everyone else but I don't recall spending much time sitting around staring at a white screen on my iPad.

Alright, let the down votes begin...

I also have a suggestion...

Apple should get their act together and start producing screens that are consistent.

BTW, I'd have noticed the flaws even without the forum. The bad screens stand out like a sore thumb.

Not surprised you responded first, considering I see you b$&ch and moan in nearly every other 'bad screen' thread:rolleyes:...

I'm not saying screen problems don't exist but stop acting like this is a brand new issue (there are yellow tint or other screen related threads for every Apple product with an LCD screen for the past few years) or that it's as widespread as you'd lead everyone to believe. A handful of anal retentive iPad owners examining every last pixel under every single color and light combination in existence does not a problem make. The number of issues brought up in forums like these represent a minuscule percent of the total number of iPads sold and if it really was so widespread, it certainly would be more evident in the mass market media (i.e. antennagate).

You have a problem with your screen? Fine, bring it back to Apple but when I see posters say they've returned/exchanged numerous iPads (some online here are working on 10+), I'm going to suggest the problem is less with Apple and can more likely be discovered by looking in the mirror.

Bah, I'm just grumpy after going through 4 iPads myself. :(

Seriously, I do know that they're not all bad. But my own experience has made me think that the quality control people were asleep when these were coming off the assembly line. And apparently I'm not alone.

I'm starting to think there aren't any...unless you're referring to the customers themselves.

I actually agree with you on this. I've decided that if the advanced replacement is WORSE than my current iPad, I will send it back and ask to keep my current one.

I guess it's the lure of *maybe* obtaining an iPad with a perfect screen that keeps the more picky people (such as myself) going back for yet another replacement.

My current iPad, other than the dark corner (and general darkness down the LH side) has PERFECT colour tone:

Wow looks good! I'd agree, good choice keep that sucker :)

Well, I give up.

My FOURTH replacement arrived today and guess what - HAIR UNDER THE FRACKING SCREEN.

I rang Apple, and asked if I could send this replacement back and keep my 'dark corner' one whilst they send me yet another replacement. They agreed to do this.

After the call, I felt so over this situation and rang them back and said 'Don't send me any more replacements. I'll just keep replacement number 3'.

I told them how bitterly disappointed I am with the whole ordeal, I love my iPad but hate that I have to 'compromise' with the screen.

I was also pissed off enough to email Tim Cook - yeah I know he will trash it straight away - but I felt better after it was sent.

:(

Ya my 2nd Ipad has the dark corner in 2 corners and the dreaded light leak from the bottom corner when you look at it from a side. My first one had some hair or lint under the glass right in the middle and was driving me nuts when writing emails cause it was right on the address line so I saw it every time.

Tomorrow try #3.

Mine has this too.. Noticed it in safari, the pixels at the left-most vertical edge (of a quarter inch or so) in portrait mode with the home button down have a gradual falloff to the sides... they're a little dimmer than on the other sides and the middle.

Not going to send it back though, there's other stuff that would annoy me a lot more: Dead pixels, broken microphone (which is what I've already sent it in for), light leakage along the sides.. This one is otherwise perfect so it'll do for me.

But I'm seriously fussy about screens (I even notice the slight blurryness on the VGA output on my work laptop compared to the DVI screen right next to it). So I'll probably notice it till the end of days.

Besides this it's an amazing screen though. I took out my iPad 1 to compare the edge dimness and it was hard to even compare, if you look at it closely the resolution improvement is so extremely obvious that anything else is distracting.. My iPad 1 actually had it a little bit as well but not as noticeable as the new iPad's.

Well, I've now decided I'm not going to give up. Sent another email off to Apple Support and will be calling them tomorrow (Monday).

I WILL get an iPad that I'm satisfied with!

A bit of an update...

I've now been contacted by Apple's Executive Relations Officer for Asia Pacific & Japan (I'm in Australia) as they want to 'Capture' my iPad for Apple's engineering department.

Apparently the issue I have is a 'known' one. Apple have said that they will send me out a pe-inspected iPad to replace this one, to make sure 100% the screen is fault free.

Will let you know how this goes!!

That's good to hear. Apple should be paying attention to the garbage they are letting out of the factories. I'd be ashamed by the wildly varying degrees of quality. I hope that anyone that gets these crappy displays keeps bringing them back as it is unacceptable.

:(

I emailed Tim Cook, due to an Apple store not allowing me to exchange a 3 hour iPad. I was livid, I got a call and a email from Apple Corporate Relations. The guy took care of me and now I have a great iPad. Let me know if you want the guy's email that helped me so much.

Please PM me the email. The left side of my screen has really bad pink tint issues and I was trying not to be OCD about it so I just delt with it... but then I put it beside my brothers iPad2 -- wow I had no idea it was that bad... at maximum brightness on both iPads -- my tint is so bad that it looks like I am at 75% and he is at 100% brightness... I have an appointment with a genius but people around here seem to be saying that they are no longer replacing iPads for the screen tint issues -- so if they turn me away, I would really like to be able to call someone about it!

The ONLY way Apple will realize there are quality control issues is if people return their iPads. So if you're not happy with it, return it and try to get a replacement. It will be recorded in the system and hopefully Apple's quality control will take notice. They rake in over 40% profit margin on these babies, and Chinese workers slave around the clock for around $10 a day building them. The only way to improve the system is to give Apple the message that there need to be changes.

That said, luckily my screen is perfect. :D ....or at least perfect enough.
(ps. mine was purchased at the Cube store in NY. ...maybe they get all the good ones?)

Reading this thread made me question my iPad 2. My screen is super bright towards the top, and darker towards the bottom 3rd of the screen. Battery life is amazing, however I can also see the back lights shining brightly from the left side of the screen. Is this normal ? OR do I have a bad ipad 2 screen?
