I went to Bluewater store yesterday and all 3G ipads were sold out :/ I was put on the 'notify me' list, I'm hoping to get by iPad by Wednesday, the Guy said they get deliveries every day and that It should be there in less than a week... Is apple prioritizing the UK stock deliveries ?

I don't think Apple is prioritising UK stock. I guess they built up stock in the run up to last Friday, to ensure early pre-orders were met and stores had decent stock on launch day. We will now have to wait - my online store replacement iPad had a shipping date of 25 June! (I have since bought my replacement in a bricks-and-mortar ApplesStore)

On the AppleStore shop stock, Birmingham Bullring still had 'a few' 3G 64GB on Saturday morning, and Solihull Touchwood had 16 and 64 GB Wifi in stock yesterday (Sunday) afternoon (no 3Gs though).

I must say while wifi syncing is an interesting idea I can totally understand why apple disallowed it from the app store though. Not only for security issues (people intercepting wifi signals, especially important in enterprise) but also it may or may not give a consistent transfer rate for files so people may complain that syncing takes a long time. Longer than really necessary. I know us forummers would know better and use 802.11n but were discussing a device that is designed for people who know NOTHING about computers as well and having apps like that in the app store just complicates things for them.

I can think of one more problem to add to that list: what happens as and when Apple update iTunes? Odds are an update could indeed break Wi-Fi sync as it's basically a cludge solution. The instant that happened anyone that had bought it would be up in arms and moaning, yet again, about Apple rather than the developer. Personally, while it's a solution I'd like to see implemented, I'd definitely prefer to wait for an official Apple version on this one.

Thinking about stock levels etc I could easily see the iPad being tricky to get hold of for a fair old while yet. Apple are in uncharted waters here, they have no idea what the long term demand will be so can't ramp up production too far just in case they get caught out, yet have to meet demand in those countries they've launched in AND start gearing up to expand that launch. First indication may be in a week or so when Steve Jobs takes the stage at WWDC, if demand from the US has been as strong as some analysts say it could be quite a while before you can walk into any Apple store and be guaranteed to find the iPad of your choice in stock.

I am sitting in Terminal Five in Heathrow. Right now, as best I could see, Dixons has about 20 or so iPads in stock. They are all wifi versions though. I guess there is stock but not the 3G versions.

I know guys, sorry, but I figured I'd get some angry responses linking to this thread if I started a new one ;)

Hi folks. I didn't think I would be back here. Hope you are all enjoying your iPads as much as I am. Anyway, I have a bit of a bit of a strange question.

Quite a few of this threads followers imported their iPads from the US, I remember all the tracking tales and customs holdups posted in here quite well. Well I am in a similar position, but not with an iPad. It's a small bit of equipment, actually a wifi repeater, that is coming via US Postal Service. I have tracked it to the UK and it's now sat in customs. Bring back any memories. What happens after that, who takes over in the UK, which carrier. Did you get any further tracking information after that. I tried looking back through the thread but most of it is gone now and can't be searched. So if any of the UK iPad pioneers can help then it would be much appreciated.

Hi Bob, USPS stuff is handled by Parcelforce once it clears customs.

Put your USPS tracking number into the Parcelforce tracking website and tick the box to indicate that it is an incoming international parcel. It should change to a British tracking number and give you up to date info. about where your package is.

Thank's for that. I should have took more notice when it was all happening.
I just tried the Parcelfarce site. It just says unable to confirm the status try again later. I am hoping that means they recognise the number and its just still in customs.

(stumbles in the door)

Whoa - here we are again.

I am torn between posting new questions and comments to this thread that aren't anything to do with the original title, or not. To do so is good because as others have said, it feels like home in somewhere that can sometimes be a touch impersonal (the macrumors forum as a whole). But on the other hand I could miss out on input from others not watching the thread and likely p*ss off anyone who is fussy about thread content matching thread title.

Ho hum. Hope you're all enjoying your iPads. I know I am.

Yep certainly am. I am sat in the car overlooking Morecambe Bay eating a nice homemade ice cream and browsing at a nice fast 3G rate on my iPad. Luxury :)

So you are holding an ice cream in one hand, the iPad in the other hand, so what are you using to press the keys on the keyboard with?

I don't know if I should be impressed or disgusted by the thought of that!

think i actually dropped out of the thread about halfway through the first one. A mate picked me up an ipad in NYC well before they came out here.

No such luck this time round!
