The only way to bring a Calculator app into iPadOS is to implement proper app windows, where app windows can be small by default.

The approach it seems with the new iPadOS is just big iPad apps scaled down. That means apps need to be designed to take advantage of the entire display, which in turn will look like a waste of space and will be ridiculous looking.

With iPadOS 16, Apple is finally bringing a native Weather app to the iPad, taking advantage of the larger iPad display. Apple is also introducing WeatherKit for developers on the platform.

The iPad's lack of a Weather app has been a long-running joke with iPad users. While iPadOS 16 brings a Weather app to the iPad, it does not seem the iPad is gaining a Calculator app. iPadOS 16 will be available to developers for beta testing later today and to public beta testers in July.

IPadOS is such a disappointment, Apple just doesn't want their users to use the device more like a laptop. It has the power, but they are holding it down.
Yeah, I’m going to reserve judgment about iPadOS 16 is actually released. Too many friction points on that list that we couldn’t read. The M1 iPads getting access to VM and full use of up to 16GB of DRAM is a game changer in the life of iPadOS, so let’s see how that goes before we continue crying about bad iPadOS is?!

Honestly I started laughing when they showed off Weather and then proceeded onward with no mention of Calculator.

What's harder to believe?
A. The fact that we finally have Weather on iPad
B. The fact that we still don't have Calculator on iPad
"The calculator needs to look just right (cue hand gesture v1) on the iPad (cue hand gesture v2) so our customers will love using it (cue hand gesture v1). It's a multi-decade project, but our team of Apple engineers are up to the challenge!" (cue hand gestures v1 and v2)

Why does anyone need this? Who needs a weather app calling home every few minutes?
There are loads of sites that will give you accurate weather. Choose the one you like and add a bookmark to your browser. Why is that such a big deal?

Kinda obvious after iOS16 it was getting it as it would need it for the lock screen animation (if it gets it).
Not necessarily, I pad has the iOS/iPhone style weather widget even though the app is not present. Just redirects to a clunky website.

First, you all are killing it on these joke responses. LMAO.
Also, pathetic it took this long. So annoying not to have this app. Very happy it’s finally coming.

Meanwhile, folks not waiting for Apple have pencil based calculator apps today with smart function recognition.

Happy about this, but I’m honestly amazed that we have the Weather app before the Calculator app…

or Health, full Fitness app, Wallet app…

😒
