Just got mine last week, it is already separating to the right of the home button, this is a bummer as I had my iPad 1 for a year and it is still rock solid

I have a little backlight bleed but I can live with that, I can't live with the entire face falling off the backing.

Are they cool at the Apple store about replacement? Covered under the one year warranty?

Our iPad glass is separating in the same spot.:( Going to head to the Apple store tomorrow and see about a replacement before it grows anymore. It seems the more you touch it the farther is separates.

I know someone who had an iPhone 4 doing the same thing. So she took it in and the guy at the genius bar took it to the back. When he came back he said the battery was expanding and could have exploded. Im wondering if that is what is happening to the iPad.

Just a word of warning. Both my iPad 2's had this issue and both times I took them back to the Regent Street store, the sales reps said each time that it was normal and they would not have swapped/refunded the iPad unless I also had the excessive light bleed each unit also had.

Neither rep included the fault on the Genius Bar paperwork but perhaps Apple is now acknowledging the issue to some extent.

Still not buying one as the customer service wasn't great and the majority of the demo units in both London stores are showing the fault to varying degrees.

I've got separation as well, if it gets any worse I'll bring it in for an exchange, which i hate to do as I have a ghost armor front + back on it. Guess I would have to order a warranty replacement for that as well.

I got a black bezel ipad and I got a similar issue near the home button. It's hard to notice it unless I press down on the bezel. the glass moves slightly down when I press it, the rest of the ipad is fine. hopefully it won't get worse.

seems like there are many problems near the home button area and the speakers with the ipad2.....

I'm 27 and have been buying Apple for about 10 years now. I can honestly tell you quality has gone downhill.

I was on my 6th IP4 until I just sold it and bought a new one. Apples refurbs are terrible. From the iPad to iPhone. My latest iPhone 4 refurb had scratches ALL over the steel band. My old refurb iPads had at least 2 issues that none of the new ones had.

Pretty sad this is happening.

But its the same thing for my other hobby - Air Jordan shoes. Quality is terrible now on these.

While my iPad 2 does suffer from these minor issues my iPad 1 was flawless, my iPhone 3G was flawless, my iPhone 4 is flawless, and my iMac 27" is flawless.

Honestly, people don't post when their product is perfect, they do when it's not. Let's be real here, the quality control is fine and my experience with customer support has so far been nothing but astounding.

If you rub your fingers across the edges of the Ipad 2 you can like feel the glue right? I wonder if the Ipad 2 is not as well put together as the previous model?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Mine has glass starting to separate near the FT camera. Plus light leak! This iPad 2 is less than 1 week old. Damn glue! I'm returning this iPad and waiting till they resolve QC issues!

In fairness to Apple, they just can't grow at the rate they are without some issues.

In fairness to the customer who's hard earned money is spent on these, they should be better.

My iPad 1 was fine, but now I'm on my third replacement of iPad 2. Clearly Apple is choosing quantity over quality. I may just return this and wait for Apple to sort out their problems.

I don't really need an ipad anyway, it was more of a novelty.

It's like any other mass produced tech product.

The ones who have issues complain, those who have perfect products say nothing.

If an issue was really widespread and that common, the media would jump all over it.

What do you think is going to happen when Apple is building these things as fast as they can? To get the numbers they need to satisfy our insane need for the latest and greatest on day 1, there need to be concessions. Yes, even on higher end products. They don't WANT these things to happen, they just do. Manufacturing isn't perfect every time and I'm sure higher production rates create more defects in a predictable manner.

Just get the defects replaced. I'm sure that's what Apple would want. There is no better way to inform them of their mistakes than to cost them a little bit of extra money.

Agreed!

Someone do a poll for the glass separation issue.

Apple has had much less R&D time for the iPad 2 than they did for the iPad 1.

It's marketing speak to start blaming mass market demand. The lack of QC is a conscious decision to satiate that demand; Apple can - and used to - refuse to get sucked in.

Apple refused to acknowledge this issue with both my iPad 2's. I came away feeling that Apple didn't give a toss whether they kept my custom or not.

It's a shame a I can't get an iPad 1 with the guts of the iPad 2. That thing really would be a perfect combination of build quality and speed.

I suspect a lot of this is due simply to Apple rushing to get supplies to market.
In the initial rush for a new and high demand product I think there`s more of a "ship it and deal with the returns" attitude.

I think most or all of these first batch issues will be sorted out pretty quickly.
Makes me happy I bought a heavily discounted iPad 1 just after the 2`s release.
I may well do the same when the third gen comes out, no more early-adopting for me, I made the same mistake with SSD`s and ended up with a total lemon (Thanks Kingston ).

Give it a few weeks, the issues will settle down.

I sure hope so. Then again Apple does seem to be going cheaper and cheaper.
