As an audiophile, I am very particular about the quality of sound reproduction.... all the way to Bose Surround Sound Home theatres..

"audiophile" and "Bose" don't belong in the same paragraph.

..Audio output from the headphone jack was full quality 24-bit stereo sound...

24-bit? Can you please provide some links to back this up?

From Apple iPad tech spec

PC tablets some of those "features" for years, but no one wants PC tablets.

The problem is after including all those things, not only is the end result thick and heavy, they had to use cheap parts to keep price under check:
- slow processor
- cheap touchscreen
- low battery life
- no touch optimized interface (hey but we got a list of features that barely work)

Only the clueless want flash on mobile devices. Heard of JooJoo the Flash tablet? Why don't you buy it because it has Flash?

You took my comment way out of context

It's a bigger more advanced iPod touch. However when the new iPod touch is introduced this fall I believe the gap will close and the big advantage the iPad will have is screen size. Should be a good time to sell my iPad. Get the desperate to buy it during the fall/winter for the same price I purchased it for and then see what Apple releases with REV B.

100% Agree with the original poster. I don't even use my iPhone half as much as I used too. The iPad is definitely perfect for non power users. If I ever need to do something powerful I use my iMac. Anything else...the iPad of course. And I hate it when people say its just a big iPod touch. YesI suppose technically it is, just like technically all our houses are just big advanced caves.

The iPad is more then just a big iPod Touch for a number of reasons. But one of the most unique things about it are 4 player (at the same time) games. Try getting 4 sets of hands on one iPod screen! I dare you! LOL

Quite simply, there is not other portable mass market device that can do this. Not a Nintendo DS. Not a Sony PSP. Not a mobile phone. Not a laptop. Nothing.

The 10 hour battery life is so awesome on this thing that I would like to replace my laptop. I need to find an app in which I take notes with that's compatible with Word. Also, where would my .doc files save to and how can I transfer them to my Macbook?

Not being funny, but why did you buy one ?

No you've got it wrong, the iPod touch is a little iPad!

;)

:D Priceless!!!! Hahaha...

I have an iPhone which is just a mini iPad with extra features.

I can do every thing on my iPhone that I can do on my iPad. But the much larger iPad is far more an enjoyable experience than the smaller iPhone.
Same apps on a larger, better screen make those apps totally different.
From games to books to you name it.

I have no regrets...

@ Obmatl: Great review

As everyone pointed out, the iPad is a big iPod Touch, but there is nothing wrong with that, I hope iOS4 will put it more in between the MacBook and iPhone

I seriously use my ipad every single day for a number of hours. I even use it to run my office computer when I'm out on location. Just excited to get the next version OS. And we can now use flash on the ipad with an app that is pretty cool.

It's been more than 30 years since Bose made speakers that are worth a damn and even then they were only really good for classical music.

If the iPad was released before the iPhone, people would have kill to buy one.
And if, after a year, Apple had released the iPhone, people would have screw:"It's an iPad mini!! Whoooaaa I want one!".

People always want the big-to-small process. We live in the miniaturization-mania era.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Lol Bose.

Seriously, why do people think Bose is the best?

Welcome to the forum, luvmyipad.

Glad you are getting a lot of use out of your iPad. Mine gets a ton of use also. Probably the least expensive computer I've ever owned. (in terms of cost per hour of use.)

About lack of flash:

About lack of front facing camera:

1) Honestly, I don't see Apple actually implementing one in the future. The iPad is quite large and adding a front facing Camera would be kinda weird. I mean you'd have to hold it upright properly, might not support landscape.. and I mean I have (will have, rather) an iPhone 4 to fix that need.

Next iPad wont have a camera? I'm pretty confident it will! What is the one major feature that apple has been pushing into all of their new computing devices? Facetime. Apple have been emphasizing Facetime on their devices. Now the Mac has it.

I'm one to entertain this from the other perception. Let's say yes this is a big iPod Touch. However, the screen real-estate makes the difference. What does iPad offer that iPod Touches don't? Multi-panel displays and in-app overlapping windows and such. That may not seem like much to you, but that kind of stuff is actually a big (visual) difference between a desktop app and a phone app. It makes a world of difference and is one of the primary reasons I look for an iPad equivalent for any program. Outside of the larger screen being friendlier to the multi-touch interface.

Another aspect that iPads make more use of programs that allow you to use multiple digits to control stuff on the screen, at the same time. This isn't true with all programs, but there are some you can using a lot of digits (sometimes between two people) that you just don't have the screen space for, on the phone. Not to mention, iPad is sized so you can DJ those turn tables, unlike the smaller iOS devices.

Still, when I got the iPad, the main kicker for what separates it other than size (that I noticed within the first week of use), is the thing that comes with the size. An interface that takes advantage of those windows/panels like a desktop, where the phone and the touch does not.

Sorry but I personally find it to be an oversized piece of monstrosity.

I know it is pretty much a multi-functioning device, but I wanted to get a device that I could read books of from; so I got myself an amazon kindle.

It doesn't do all that extra stuff the iPad does, but its not supposed to. It does what a tablet or rather eReader is designed to do, download ebooks and let you read them.

Actually I see it more as the iMac nano to be honest

How long did you search to bring up a thread from last year (Last post Nov 5) that was about the original iPad so you could bash it?

Agreed.

I think that it's because Bose puts all of their money into marketing rather than improving their products. :)

It's like saying that a swimming pool is a big bathtub. They essentially are but have different uses.

GREAT POINT!

drives me nuts when people say "iPad sucks, it's just a big iPod Touch" I'd say:
"iPad rocks, it's just a big iPod Touch" I think it's a good thing not a bad thing. It runs fast on low end hardware, and even though it's not as open as a full blown os, it also leaves out a lot of the drawbacks of full blown os's AND inspires developer creativity. Who's ever used apps that look/function so good on a full blown computer?
