I can only speak for the 3GS but if you never jailbroken before and you upgraded to 3.1.3 you can't jailbreak it. If you have 3.1.2 and a mac, use redsn0w for optimal results.

It does not sound that difficult, given that you are a developer. What I cannot figure out is how you buy MyWi if you do not have a jail-broken phone. It seems you must first jail brake, load Cydia, or whatever, and then you can download MyWi or whatever.

Can anyone just say where you can download MyWi w/o a jail-broken phone?

Unless someone comes up with a working wrapper tutorial - can't be done. May I ask why you all are asking questions on how to JB your iPhones here in an iPad forum? Step up to the iPhone Hacks section on Macrumors, everything and everyone you can possible need is right there

Not possible. Dude was just blowing smoke. Most wouldn't be jailbreaking if it were possible.

I think you are missing the point. You can create any app if you are a developer and install it on your phone. But if it's doing anything apple doesn't like you just cant distribute it in mass. So you could recreate the mywi app if you could code and install on your phone. Thus to think there is a way to take an existing app and somehow rework it to install via your developer credentials iis not far fetched. However still may be impossible.

Yup works great, now I can finally get that $30 worth from that mandatory data plan that ATT sticks me with

You can't because Apple doesn't allow it in the app store since nobody in their right mind will pay extra for the tethering plan once ATT actually rolls one out.

Well sure they don't allow it in the App store but lot's of people have it. Granted they are mostly all jail-broken though. The question is, is there a non-Apple site where one can plunk down their $10 to get the application w/o using their phone?

My friend has MyWi on his original iPhone. So we plugged it in the charger and went on our way. It worked fine w/ the iPad, granted we were going at EDGE speeds but I could see how this would be useful. My only issue is that his phone got pretty hot after around 10 min of usage. So we shut it off and decided not to use it and charge it at the same time.

Any of you MyWi users experience this? I used PDANet on my Original iPhone back in the day and it never got that hot, I would say at most warm, although PDANet would often drain the battery faster than it was charging. Is it better to use USB tethering?

I'm thinking about getting another iPhone for my tethering needs, but may end up getting a MiFi or an Android phone.

Gonna be a bit hard to do that if the app doesn't have access outside of its sandbox and requires the jailbreak.

iPhone 3g, ver 3.1.3.

Jailbreak was successful.

installed MyWi from Cydia.

However, MyWi crashes after 10 seconds. I can't even fill out all the registration info before it crashes!

Is this a known issue? I can't find any help on google...

HALP!

edit: i created a RockID in the Rock app instead of doing the registration in MyWi. its working now :D

I think you can register in ROCK, and just login in MyWi. I did something similar (forgot) because I had the same issue w/ my 3g.

The newer version of MyWi doesn't require ROCK. Try 3.4.3

I still have iPhone os 3.0 on my 3GS. Should I keep the os or update before I JB?

I don't know. Personally I would probably keep baseband and upgrade to 3.1.2, and then jailbreak and get mywi with no rock :) that would be my plan

In other news, tethering is saving my life right now. I'm at this place that wants to charge $55 bucks for 3 days of internet. Ridiculous!!!!!!
