This thread, and the original 2001 iPod thread, should be required reading to remind us all that the people who post here don't necessarily know more than Apple, even though they continually assert that they do by saying Apple failed or Steve lost it, etc.

Some people are short-sighted.

Some people lack imagination.

Some people are motivated to say bad things about Apple regardless of facts.

Some people like to troll.

None of them turned out to be right about the iPod or the iPad. Just remember that the next time Apple rolls out something new and these forums are flooded with disappointed people.

Can someone link me to the original iPod thread from 2001?

Hilarious!

If the ipod is only the world's most baddass MP3 player then I don't know if I'm really going to stand in line to buy it, I have a cd walkman and a burner already

Somehow comparing a 5gb iPod to a cd Walkman seems so absurd now.

I really wanted to like it. Really. But do the math:

20GB hard drive: $199 from APS tech.

MP3 player: $50 from Best Buy.

You save $150 plus get an extra 15 Gig of storage!

And what are you going to do, strap that hard drive to your pants?

Nice trip down memory lane, thanks!

This thread has brought lots of smiles to my face after the reading comments :D hate to say it but I was thinking the same as most of them during the first ipad launch
