If you're never going to stress the Mini2, and will only do modest games, email, web browsing, video viewing, it will be fine for now, though iOS 11 may be uncertain. As mentioned the Mini4 (and Mini5 even more so) is more future-proofed. One thing I don't believe was mentioned is that the Mini4 has TouchID and the 2 doesn't. That may not matter to you of course, but I like it. I had a Mini2 and traded it in for the 4, and never regretted the trade.

I have a Mini4 now and am happy with it, though don't find the Air2 that much harder to carry on trips, so I don't use the MIni 4 for very much. If I had it to do over, I think I'd have skipped the Minis entirely, though I do like it for reading or video-viewing in bed (light weight much easier when laying on my back). But for other purposes, I like the size of the Air better and don't find the size a problem.

Go back and review @craig1024 posts, he edited his original post from AFTER I responded to him. Not disparaging against him, but I didn't understand his reply to me. And it wasn't an argument, it was an observation.
I read his quote from your comment, which he can't edit after you post it. Your comment just sounded like you were implying that he said the iPad Air 2 lags. It was all just a misunderstanding.

Just bought a mini 2 32gb cellular for 220 shipped on eBay. Works perfect for paying bills, surfing the net, and watching YouTube videos. So far I'm liking this more than my iPad Air

Mine takes care of my needs just fine. I bought it this year and use it for the forums I'm on and for general surfing. Running great on 9.3.5. Typing this from it now.

no, my Mini 2 felt laggy and sluggish and slow specially in heavier webpages, I was getting really sick of Safari refreshing, so I sold it.
I do not recommend a Mini 2 in 2016 at all.

Im thinking to get the Mini 2 mainly because of the price for ebooks, movies\Netflix, web surfing, communication and light gaming on the go. Do you think it will hold for few years (don’t mind ‘getting stuck’ on older iOS) ? or is it better to save for the 4 \ waiting for the holiday sales at this point ?

I wouldn't buy the 4 at this point unless there was a substantial discount. Wait and see what Apple comes out with in the Spring.

Family have three iPad Mini 1 tablets and they are still used a lot - for browsing and video consumption. Whilst one daughters macbook was in the shop she had the ipad plugged into her TV for her to do some work with a wireless keyboard.
I'm sure gen2 is still a viable device.

Depends on what you're going to do on yours. I use mine for web surfing and YouTube and it works just fine. Unless you are a hardcore gamer, you'll do fine with iPad mini 2

I just upgraded all my grandkids' iPad minis to mini 2s from original minis. All of them are running the latest software and doing fine. Of course they mostly watch videos and play educational games, so nothing drastic.

I dread having to take the next step though (to mini 4s or Air 2s) because of the price increase, but when the time comes, I'm sure I will.

What's the point of going from mini1 to mini2...were the mini2s hand-me-downs or new purchases.

If the former, then OK. if the latter, it's a head-scratcher.

Probably because they're cheaper, and Mini 1 to Mini 2 is in my opinion one of the biggest single generation leaps in any iOS product line. It's going from a 32-bit A5 chip to a 64-bit A7, doubling the RAM, and a Retina display. Basically, the equivalent of going from an iPad 2 to an Air.

I see you edited your post. :)

The mini2 has the same 1gb ram as the mini1. That's why this is a head-scratcher

The Mini 2 has definitely proven to be quite durable, however it's been 3 years, and it's really starting to show its age.
I still own one, and have since it was released, but in all fairness I wouldn't recommend getting one at this point, especially since the Mini 4 is not that much more expensive.

I wouldn't recommend a mini2 if it is on ios9 or ios10. It ran great when it first came out (not sure if it was ios7 or 8) but not any more, even with a new setup (no restore).

I didn't edit my post. o_O

And the Mini 1 has 512MB of RAM (same internals as the iPad 2), so the Mini 2 does have double (1GB).

The difference between mini 2 's display and mini 4's is night and day...

And I thought I had an eye sight bad enough.

Depending where you are, in America the difference between 32GB Mini 2 & Mini 4 is $40, in Europe its €140...
