It's not that easy. You can't just pick a resolution that qualifies as "retina" and stick it on the mini. It has to be 2048 or 1024 or you'll have 275000 apps in danger of not working right, or with black bands like on the iPhone 5. Not to say Apple couldn't fragment iOS some more, but I doubt it...

Yes, lots of letter boxing...

they already got the tech to build a retina in the mini with a better battery. they just dont put it in yet so they first make money on the lower spec device and then again on the better one. they also already have the tech to build 1TB flash in such a small size but they just dont bring it out yet. all the tech we buy is invented years ago. that wats invented now we can buy in 5 years. thats how economics work

if the retina mini will have the same resolution as the retina ipad, the retina mini will be more that retina as you hold it further away from you than the iphone/touch retina.

No one cares as long as it's branded "Retina". Most of us know fitting a Retina display with an A5x chip into a Mini is not a tech issue but, rather a gross margins issue. "They" know they can spoon feed the fanboys a "condensed" IPad 2 (at a not so condensed price) then, six months later, release an enhanced "Mini "s" version to complete the spoon feeding cycle once more.

Fool me once...

I think it is more about keeping value in their other product lines. Do you know how many people would be pissed off if Apple released a smaller iPad with Retina, A5X, 1GB of RAM and better cameras for $329 only 6 months after the 3rd gen iPad was released?

I am sure a retina mini will be coming, but it won't be 6 months from now. The whole point of doing this update now is so that iPad is on track to be released before the holiday season every year, rather than in late Spring.

Where are the other 7" super high resolution screens? At this point they are not available, otherwise somebody would be using them. Apple isn't going to put a retina screen in the Mini until they can get a 2048x1536 screen in a 7.9" panel.

If they were able to put one in AND fit an appropriate battery AND make it is as thin and light as it is, they'd also want the newest chip in there because the A5x was sub-par and had heat issues even in the larger iPad 3.

Even if they could meet ALL of the above issues, they still wouldn't do it because they want to sell two different products at two different price points. That's how business works.

why are we already discussing next product when the original aint even out yet?

Might as well talk about the Iphone10

All this speculation, what's the point

Because I don't want the original and hopping for key things in the next update and with knowing Apple and the tech world, I was hoping we can guess the next years device and the possibilities of that unique feature coming out.
