I picked up a rMini 2 to give a test run since I was always curious of the size. I really liked the compact size and weight. All these people who say the 6 Plus will replace it for everyone are crazy (but it will for some).

The 6 Plus won't necessarily replace the Mini, but the size between both is somewhat close. I mean, if I had a 6... I think owning a Mini is more realistic. But you can't deny the size between both 6 Plus & Mini plays a part in buying decisions.

And most people that has a 6 Plus would prefer buying an Air over a Mini. I'm not saying "all," but majority would...

The Air 2 is quite the machine though. Normally I would wait to buy whatever the latest is but I found a resale Air 2 for a good price and jumped on it for my wife. My Air 2 is fantastic .. 3 core CPU + 2GB RAM, I don't see what more APple is going to add to the next one to make it worth while paying full price.

I feel that with the upcoming iOS 9 update and the release of split screen view will definitely push the performance of the Air 2, especially if running 2 video related apps side by side.

If you think I am wrong come back to me in half a years time when the newest Air is released and the Air 2 seems "slow"

I wonder whether that rumored iPad Pro is the rMB... We are all expecting a iPad in 12inch form. But plenty of reviews state that the rMB is pretty much a iPad. Granted, the rMB lacks a touch screen... But the general census is that it lacks performance.

The Air 2 is not underpowered... It's perfectly optimized for iOS 9, but its simply not a Mac. With the introduction of the rMB and as Apple try to improve on its shortcomings. What will become of the iPad? I mean... If I had to choose between a iPad or rMB, I'll choose the rMB. I think down the line the rMB will be the deciding future of the iPad.

i've been thinking the same, it is possible that the leaks we have seen could of been mistaken for the 12" retina Macbook. I'm going to wait and see what October brings which is usually when they announce new iPad's.

My guess is that there a lot of people with the 6+ and a laptop/MacBook. And no iPad.
And lots (including myself) with a 5S and an iPad Mini.
Perhaps some with a 6 and an iPad Air.

Lots of combinations of sizes, to suit different people and their use of these devices.

True...Plenty of combination that interest people use cases.

But my point is that there is less people with the set up of a 6 Plus & iPad Mini... And people with that set up, I would wager that they tend to use their Mini less now that they have a larger iPhone.

I don't care so much about "Now even thinner!" as long as it gets an upgraded processor... The new iPad features in iOS9 are processor/graphics dependent, and any new iPad mini with a gimped processor is going to be a non-starter as far as I'm concerned...

I would have liked the iPhone 6's more fully-rounded edges, complete with rounded glass, but that doesn't seem likely.

Are you running the iOS 9 Beta? If not, I'll let you know the split screen on the Air 2 is amazing. There is no lag between the apps and they can be used simultaneously or one at a time while still being side by side. I'm not saying a new Air wouldn't be better, I'm just saying the Air 2 works wonders on iOS 9

i can back this up, i'm also running the IOS 9 beta on my iPad Air 2 and the multitasking features are great, no lag or problems so far. The only thing i've said is that i feel it would be even better on a bigger iPad screen.

Why thinner?!? What about battery life!!!

Well, not that I was going to buy one. My retina mini 2 is holding up beautifully for almost 2 years now, and will continue to do so for another 3 years at least...

Wasn't the original iPad Air just a larger version of the iPad mini design? Not to be nitpicky, but the title of this article seems to suggest the iPad Air features design cues not currently seen in the iPad mini. Thickness is a dimension, not a design.

You can adjust the text to all kinds of sizes, you know ....

I know, but I found the size uncomfortably small. I could have magnified what was on the screen, but why see less content than on the iPad Air when the iPad Mini wasn't offering me any real benefit. It's a great device and perfect for some, just not me.

For me the iPad mini is a perfect size. Perfect for reading books (after all, it is the size of a book...), webpages, e-mails, etc. Great for gaming. And most importantly, it can be held in one hand while you have a cup of coffee or something in your other hand. It's ideal for lying back and relaxing, which is exactly what an iPad is best for, imo. If I wanted a giant-sized iPad or an iPad Pro, I would probably just go with a laptop or a Surface.

Well, I would say the full sized iPad is far from "giant."

I do miss the weight of the mini. I could effortlessly hold it.

I feel like I've been on both sides of these opinions. Having had both an iPad Air and iPad mini, I feel like there's great use cases for each. I love the large screen of the Air for photos, web pages, (split screen soon) and the near ability to replace a laptop when on the go a lot, but I also love the compact size of the mini for pure consumption - email, twitter, messaging, web and tons of reading with iBooks. I love reading and every time I'm on the iPad Air reading a book it feels too large.

Funny, almost seemed easier when there was one iPhone and one iPad and you didn't even think about choosing. I am excited to see a mini with the thinness of the Air 2 / iPod touch; can't imagine how thin and light it's going to feel.

This is exactly why I want one. I hope they do release a mini4 and I hope they continue to refresh the mini series. I think it's an ideal size.

A question I have is will the mini 4 have the same screen as the iPad Air 2 meaning when you tap it does it feel like a thump or hollow sounding like the mini 2 because when they laminated the glass differently on the iPad air 2 it sounds better when you tap the screen. I hate that hollow sound.

I know that many claim that the rMB is actually the iPad Pro. But just because many people say it doesn't make it make sense.

Thinness and lack of ports are not the distinctive qualities of the iPad. That is the premise that those claiming the rMB is the iPad Pro look at. The touch interface AND mobile OS are the distinctives... both of which are lacking in the rMB.

I don't believe that Apple will produce a truly converged device (a la Surface) until they can create a device that can run both OSX and iOS and fully implement Continuity. Without the keyboard, it runs iOS... with it, OSX.

Until then, I see Apple moving both ends (tablet and notebook) towards that middle. The rMB is the closest to that point from the notebook-side. I expect Apple to produce an iPad this year that moves closer to that middle point from the tablet end.

I think people are just a little undecided if Apple are doing an iPad Pro, i know i am, if they are great i will buy one without a doubt, but there really haven't been many leaks that show this, also if the recent reports of iPad's being at the September event is true then why haven't we heard or seen any leaks about them. I'm not saying that Apple isn't and i hope they do announce a 12" iPad Pro, I'm just on the side of caution because i personally don't want to be disappointed if they don't.

IOS 9 does imply that a bigger iPad is on the way, the multitasking feature and i think there was a code in IOS 9 that was found by someone to have a higher resolution that would support a 12.9" iPad.
