So far they still seemed to have shafted the mini again with older specs, it comes with an A8 processor not even an A8x (still behind the Air 2.) I think I'm actually relieved though as now I only want to upgrade my phone and ATV, as the overall offerings of the Pro and mini are kind of "meh" I feel. The Air 2, still is a beast even compared to the iPad Pro, (not to take away from the iPad Pro, but it doesn't seem all THAT more powerful than the Air, and I don't see any reason to get it aside from its "new."

Kal.

The specs are out and the thickness is the same as the Air2 6.1 mm and weight is .65 pound. So that is an improvement.
It also has the M8 motion chip. I got rid of my kindle with the idea of using the mini for reading. If they had not decreased the weight I would have passed on it. So I'm still interested now.
I see they also say it has a fully laminated screen like the Air 2. I think it may be the better screen we have asked for.

I just ordered my iPad Mini 4 Silver Wi-Fi with 64gb. As an owner of the original iPad Mini I skipped the 2 and 3 because I found no interest and saw no real improvements. This iPad Mini 4 is to me what the iPad Mini 2 should have been and that's why I eagerly ordered. In the meantime I have been using (since late last year) a Samsung Tab S 8.4, great tablet mind you, but always missed the iPad Mini and I have not been very happy lately with the Tab S because of some weird lines that from time to time appears on it's screen making it going to reset without me doing anything.

I'm confused. Why did the specs or details not get covered during the announce, net or get any front page action on theirs site? Is it just a non-release in terms of features? Other than size, would there be reason t get this over the air?

The news keeps getting worse. So I guess they lied about it being a "mini IPad Air 2".

Who lied? All I remember seeing was along the lines of "Air 2-like" and frankly no one should ever have assumed that the Mini would make the leap to SoC parity with the current full-size iPad SoC.

Here's hoping that the display has the same color gamut as the Air 2, Air and iPad Retinas.

Since it's now as thin as the Air 2, I wonder if it will have the vibration issues that the Air 2 has? ;)

So much for the iPad mini 3 lol. I bought an iPad mini 3 128 GB with cellular when they were released. Coming from an iPad 2 at the time and wanting to go smaller, it was a nice upgrade for me. Oh well, I have no regrets tho and it's still a great iPad.

I had the iPad Mini Original as well, then sold it and got the Mini Retina (2), then sold the 2 prior to last years iPad announcement in high hopes for a vastly improved Mini 3 (i.e. hoping for improved color gamut...my only real issue with the 2). We all know where this story ends! So, what to do. I took the proceeds from the sale of the Mini 2 and bought a new Air Original to tide me over for a year. Sounds like you went the Samsung Galaxy Tab S route.

Fast forward to now: I just sold the iPad Air Original and picked up the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (8 inch). It's a great little tablet....really enjoying it so far. The only complaint is battery life is a bit short. I'm still in the return window at BB (30 days) and wanted to see the new iPad Mini announcement. If it turns out that the color gamut issue has been dealt with (i.e. full color gamut...finally) and the Mini 4 has 2 GB of RAM (independently confirmed), I'll likely return the Samsung for the Mini...but it still won't be an easy decision (i.e. the S2 is a great little tablet). Hopefully Apple has got it 100% right on the Mini (finally)!

Why does apple hate the iPad mini so much… A8 instead of an A8x processor.

It's not only that the A8. With all of the "excitement" they were able to muster when announcing the iPad Mini updates this year (and last year) it kind of seems like they despise there even being a demand for it. Did they even spend :30 seconds on it? It's like they are saying "Well, I guess we have to do something, they seem to want it"!

The A8 is a very capable SoC, the biggest gain for the Air 2, AFAIAC, is the extra gig of RAM. If the Mini 4 only one gig, that is an easy FTN.

Now that it has the Air 2 camera, this is a pretty cool piece of hardware. I'm very happy with Mini 2, though.

Cool! Could you do me a big favor? I use the IGN app both on my iPad Mini and the Galaxy Tab S 8.4. One thing that bothers me about the Tab S is that I can't use said IGN app in LANDSCAPE VIEW no matter how much I try. With the iPad Mini I can use it both ways (portrait and landscape). I much rather use the landscape view so I am wondering if Samsung's decision of switching from 16:10 (my Tab S) to 4:3 (your Tab S2) have practical effects that being able now to use the IGN app in both modes, landscape and portrait. As I said, with the Tab S 8.4 portrait mode is LOCKED with no other possibility.

Would really really appreciate if you could try the IGN app because I don't know anyone with a S2. Thank you!!!!!

No problem! I don't know anything about this app, but did a quick install to check it out. It seems that the only way to navigate through the app is in portrait mode. Once you next in to content ( ie a video, etc...) this can be displayed in landscape, but the navigation appears to be purely portrait.

From what I recall Apple said that it has "all" the same features as the iPad Air 2. Why even bring up the Air 2 as a comparison? Apple flat out lied.

It's marketing-speak, not an international treaty. Do you measure your "foot long" sandwiches to confirm that they are, in fact, not less than 304.8mm in length?

If they went with the A8x then it probably would not get the 10 hour battery life like the air 2. I'm sure it will be a fantastic little iPad. I had the original mini and the mini 2. Both great iPads.

Wow DSTOFEL, talking about a great forum community! Thank you very very much for taking your time. I guess the portrait only restriction is a general restriction for Android devices. Anyway all this got me thinking about that it could maybe be a great idea to try the Tab S2 but the 9.7" one. It's incredible light and thin, like the iPad Air I always wanted. Guess with this one I could actually hold it with one hand while reading for longer times (like I do with my iPad Mini or the Tab S 8.4) but with the bigger screen.

I'm going to think more about it and maybe order it.

Reason why I can't try it myself it's because I don't live in the US and there's not S2 in my country yet. Ohh, one more thing: the iPad Mini 4 I ordered yesterday is a no go because Apple sent me a message saying that they do not ship to freight forwarders...
