You don'T have to assume anything. Apple said so in the keynote by saying it lasts at least as long as the last one.
The fact it's on a more efficient process for the SOC and using the latest display and cell tech should also be a clue.
Sure, we will check that out when the reviews comes in... but based on history (iPad Air to iPad Air 2) battery life suffered ...

Would someone answer a question for me? Sorry if I wasn't paying attention.

What is the reason for the iPad mini 4 being slightly taller than the previous models?

Also give me your opinion: Will the iPad mini get a 3D touch screen next year?

Cheers

I noticed that too, no idea why (it is taller)

Why would you care if it gets the same amount of time of use. Btw, it is not significant since it has no user impact, unless your a spec jockey who thrive on comparing notes...

Then, just say it's more efficient than other tablets... And that's it; honor rescued (sic).

Actuall a small battery is lighter and will charge faster. So it is actually better to have a small battery and get the same usage.

For iPad the usage is fine in my opinion. I also do fine on my iPhone. But I know others do not. And even I occasionally used up that battery in a particularly long day and late night. Or I have to find a moment to top it up. I think the iPads battery is good enough. But the iPhone is not quite there. We shall see how things work with iOS 9 and the 6s next week. It will be interesting.

Mini will get 3D Touch a gen behind the larger ones.

No good. It should be as thick as a mattress and run for 6 months non-stop even though no one will need to use it for more than 8 hours at a time.
See, now someone finally gets it! Get this member a Gin & Ginger with a twist of Lime, we need for the mind to be open and to keep these ideas flowing.;)

All jokes aside, Apple is testing a battery that can last a couple of days on a single charge. They filed a patent with a Macbook and an iPad. They did test an iPhone, although the battery had to be disposed of and could not be used again after running the iPhone down.:apple:

Mostly, yes. All the features will go down from iPad Pro -> iPad Air -> iPad Mini. hands down method.

You know I wonder if they will continue with the air. Tim Cook, during the massive Apple announcements, said that the Pro, will be the iPad flagship. They're keeping the Air 2 as is, and upgraded the mini (which was time last year) and made the iPad Pro, a monster of an iPad. I know it's a 1st gen. product, but is it really? You could say the same for the iPhones when they jumped from 4.0 inches to 4.7 & 5.5. Same product line, same iOS, same relatively everything, only it's a turbo charged version, with everything everyone wanted from an iPad that can truly multitask, as a very capable companion to your MacBooks (Pros, Airs, etc..) and still provide the same experience, but only bigger and better.

Don't get me wrong, the Air 2 with its Tri-core CPU and 2GB of RAM, made this thing jump leaps from the 1st iteration Air, and still with almost a year out, has the horsepower to maintain its position comfortably in its tier of tablets. I love my Air 2, and I even said I wouldn't upgrade this year if an Air 3 came out, because the Air 2 was still so very capable, for what I needed it for. I do like the Pro, (a lot) but I'm still keeping my Air 2.
Just like the iPhone 6 Plus, if they had what this year has, I would've just kept my 6 Plus. I really do need that extra power, for my jobs sake, the 6 Plus does get a little laggy and frustrating sometimes, when I needed that info yesterday, and it's taking tomorrow to get it today.

Huh, It suffered how? The Air got MORE battery life than they promised (not less, more); the Air got EXACTLY what they promised which was the same promise they had for the Air2.

So, both time, you got what they said they were giving you. So, even by that measures, I don'T get your argument at all. Unless your saying the Mini2 is getting more battery life than they promised right now, which I haven't heard about.

It still blows my mind that nearly 70% of the space inside most iDevices is consumed by the battery. Image how far technology could progress if battery technology advanced leaps and bounds to provide more power/longer life in a fraction of the space.

My mind would then be blown.

A 3.5" ipad mini as light as a feather?

I just don't understand the line about the iPhone. I routinely get 12-15 hours a day from my iPhone. And I have the screen on the brightest setting. What am I doing wrong?

You get 12-15 hours of usage? Or did that include standby time? By usage I mean screen on time. Also, do you have the 6 plus? In my daily usage, the battery life difference between the 6 and the 6+ is huge.

Is we a few doze

Is "we" a few dozen MacRumors forum members? :)

Yes I like how a select few like to think they speak for the majority....

Personally I love how Apple optimise hardware (CPU Design / RAM Amount / Battery Size / Screen Resolution etc) and software (Throttling Hardware Speeds / Refresh Rates, Services) to give the best experience to people. I personally don't see the problem of the smaller battery as long as overall battery life doesn't change.

iPad mini 1: no A6 chip, no retina display o_O
iPad mini 2: color gamut problem :(
iPad mini 3: iPad mini 2 with Touch-ID for the same $399
iPad mini 4: no A8X chip

Seems like the even-numbered iPad minis were the ones that were most "worth" buying. Even if the iPad mini 4 does not have a third-core, it still has the 2GB of RAM for split-screen multitasking.
But see your comment after each iteration. None of them is worth buying, right?
I would like to wait for iPad mini 5 or 6, or get iPad regular size (Air or whatever they call).

Was going to get one but decided don't need one with an air 2

My 6S plus will be like my tablet on the go

Would need to think if I need to buy this upgrade if I want an iPad upgrade.
Smaller battery is just a killer. I don't want to charge iPad wherever I go, although I can probably guess I don't really need to do so.
Others? Hmm, comparing it with original iPad mini those would surely be a great deal. But what if comparing it with iPad mini 3? I think it is doubtful, despite processor upgrade from, yes, A7 to A8, which we all know from iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.

This is an odd choice surely you want better battery life with every new version, not just the same

Even if the performance is bette, making a physical limitation of the battery doesn't even make sense

Ipad Pro is the new flagship,so with mini4 in my bag no need for an Air2 while at Home the Pro.The Air 2 beeing so powerful stays in the middle but "misses" fource touch so,for the next year i see the Pro gaining A10 x with A9x on Air 3 and Mini 5 the A9(hopefully with ipod touch as well but not sure)bringing force touch and pencil for all. This makes me wondering, is Air3 conflicting with Pro or could stay in the line up still?I hope so.

Far more will want the air than the pro most likely so air won't go anywhere.

I can't imagine the pro being useful for more than the air due to its size.

So do i .You can split making the mini for the move and Pro for..the home^^ but not for the desk,i mean my Mac is here to stay till iOS and OSX will start merging,or you can have a Air3 for move and back to the couch : )and this with Airplay and Apple Tv,so maybe no need for the Pro behind my walls^^ we'll see.I do prefer a very populated line up but just Apple knows what will be next while Mini4,air2 and Pro are really something.
ps. a little bit off topic but look at the project valley ,if real ,this tech could make pro,air and mini together makeing its way to Apple, next keynote slogan could look like ,ala school of highlanders,"it will rock you only one™® : )".

If you wait to buy the next iPad mini, then they might release another iPad mini 3-style update. I don't think any of them will ever be 100% worth buying like the iPad Air 2 was last year.

My biggest beef is that this didn't get the A9 chip, so it's slower than the iPhones :| (And the Air 2 should have been updated to the A9X)

I kind of want to upgrade my Mini2, but it's probably a waste of money. Hopefully Apple doesn't ditch the Mini line... after the Mini2 it seems to be largely forgotten :/
