Eh they could. Probably the same reason why they didn't upgrade the specs on the mini 3.

Well they put Touch ID on it, and that's pretty big (not $100 big, but I'm just proving a point). If they sell an Air 2 and a Mini 4 at the same price, most people would go for the Air 2. They need something to convince people to get the Mini. Force Touch?

You have no point. The mini 3 is the mini 2 with touch ID and it's not really an "upgrade"

You're acting as if they are the same device. Touch ID is extremely useful, and it's what people were asking for. Just because they only added one thing, that does not make the Mini 3 bad.

For $100 for the same device plus touch ID it is a bad device.

I very much want to buy an Ipad mini 4 this year, but if it has only 1 gig of ram it will be a no go. I'm still on the fence about buying if it comes with an A8, maybe if everything else looks strong. I really want it to have an A9 though, I already have an ipad mini 2 so the upgrade needs to be substantial to be worth it.

I agree, the A9 would be desirable but I'll be more than happy with the A8X as it is beast. New laminated screen and 2GB RAM are deal breakers for me though.

i would hope so

2GB of ram is a lock.

still tempted to get it on contract along with the 6 plus S..dunno.

I'll be for sure getting a mini 4 if it's anything like an Air 2 for performance (which it might actually be better) and got Force Touch. Not too fussed if it got the new 12mp camera, since I mainly use my dslr for photos. (Sometimes iPhone since it's handy in my pocket for when I don't have my real camera.)

I would use it mainly for Internet at work instead of using work Internet. Plus watching films when going on trips away

Would still use air 2 at home..the misses can use the the mini while I use the air.. sorted

Thoughts about Ipad mini 4:
-It will have 2gb ram (full split mode).
-It will have full laminated display with improved colours(maybe quantum dots).
-It will have A9/A8 processor (A8X is too power hungry for ipad mini smaller battery).
-It won't have force touch.
-It will have 8mpx camera, with improved optics, but not at Iphone level.
-New smartcases (please Apple, do they well, because ipad Air 2's smart cases aren't well designed. They have the same thickness that ipad air original's smart cases!)
-Same prices.

All this without raising the price?! I doubt it.

Your list reads like a wish list...we will have to see.

I would be disappointed if the new Mini was a smaller Air 2. I would hope it is a smaller Air 3.

I think that Apple really spoiled iPad Mini users by having parity between the Air 1 and the Mini 2 that one year. I doubt that anyone would complain much if the Mini had always been one generation behind the full sized model.

Why? The iPad Air 2 is a beast...we should be very happy if the mini 4 is a smaller ipad air 2 with the same price of ipad mini 3. I'm going to try to explain this...
The iPad mini 2 was a really big challenge for Apple. They had to design a screen with same pixel quantity that ipad Air, in 7.9". So the pixel density is much higher. But the battery space of the ipad mini is tiny compared with the ipad air's space. Because of that, apple had to use an izgo display(with worse colour gamut) and an a7 chip with lower speed. And they have to increase the price to 389 from 329 of the original mini. They've needed two years selling ipad mini 2 and ipad mini 3(only touch id implementation and same screen one year later, so much higher benefit margin) to recover the big amount of money that they spent to develop ipad mini retina. Now, it's time to release a new version, but the challenge is bigger, because if they want to introduce a design with same thickness to ipad air 2, the battery space is lower again. So, if they could release an ipad mini 4 with the same factor of the ipad air 2, with same laminated display technology with perfect colour gamut and and antireflective coating, same power and graphics(tweaked a8 with 2gb ram and better graphics or a9, because a8x is too power hungry, like i said in older posts) than ipad air 2, same battery and same 389 price...
It would be perfect!!!

Exactly...if Apple makes the mini4 with Air2 specs, that in and of itself is major! To put that much tech into a $400 device would be crazy (in a good way).

September-October are going to be very interesting months for us...lot of new things are coming. About ipad mini 4, I've thought about it and A9 is going to be its processor (last year, ipad air 2 was the star, but this year ipad mini 4 and ipad pro likely will be the stars of the releases). A9 for ipad mini 4 and A9x for ipad pro. I suppose ipad air 2 will get internal improvements too, but only that...

Perhaps for some people. Personally, I would like to have the option to NOT include Touch ID when buying an iPad. It is a feature which I will (be forced to) pay for but I am not going to use.

If the mini 4 has pretty much the same specs as the air 2 then i c ould see quite a few getting it. As the air 2 might be abit too big for some people. I’m tempted to do it for on the go. More so now we have free wifi at work now. Bonus for when working those 12 hour shifts.

the iPad mini 3 came in at the same price the mini 2 was selling for. Same with the Air 2 and the Air. Seems like you aren't paying any extra for this feature.

True, but the actual price for the iPad mini 3 starts at $400 while for the iPad mini 2 at $300. This is what Apple charges for Touch ID because this is the only difference between the mini 2 and the mini 3. I would like to be able to save that amount when ordering, because I am never going to use Touch ID.

The price didn't go up though, the price of the prior model went down which frankly made it an absolute bargain. Once the mini 2 is discontinued, the 3 might still be around as the entry level model and be cheaper than the 4 but both will feature Touch ID. The current mini 2 and 3 situation is not the usual.

Even so the difference in price will be justified by the vastly superior hardware of the mini 4 (assuming that the rumors come true).

My point still stands, I would like Apple to offer the option to not include Touch ID for people that do not want it, with the consequent $100 price reduction of course.
