this is the thing to have a bigger ipad and a mini you need to really be able to take it out and use it.

I have the 6s plus, 12.9 and had the mini 4 all at once and I felt it was abit overkill as I felt I used my 6s plus less and less.

Saying that using the mini 4 for bedtime reading/browsing was ideal and useful for taking away to watch media for example. Ideal for work say when it's a weekend to watch a sports event.

So at times I miss my mini 4 alot but maybe having the 5'5 iphone, 12.9 and 7.9 is overkill.

See, that's why I don't like the Plus. It doesn't replace an iPad for me, but it's also too big to use one-handed most of the time. That's why I have an iPhone SE. I bring my iPad mini 4 and iPhone SE with me when I go places, but those times I can't bring an iPad with me or I know I won't be using it much anyway, I just bring my iPhone and it works fine for casual use.

The Mini 3 and 4 have the same CPU inside, A8 but different cameras I think. I have the 3 and keep waiting since I never upgrade the iOS since I first purchased it and still fast as I purchased it but some apps don't work that I have been using so I try to find a competitor's app that still works and download it and delete the one that does not or I just access it on Safari or Google.

I will upgrade if Apple has a higher screen resolution like 1080p or higher 1440p. My desktop PC monitor is 4K and my main TV is also 4K too. Kind of sad that Apple still has 720i on their devices. It not even 720p quality!

In additon to a8 chip only on the 4 it also has a display that displays colours as accurate as the air 2. This makes the mini 4 still a fantastic buy.

As the posts above explain, every Mini after the first has had higher than 1080p resolution, so you're obviously mistaken. To summarize what others have said and maybe point out a few things they missed, the Mini 4 has numerous improvements over the Mini 3 & 2 including:

- An A8 chip (slightly over-clocked from the ones used in the iPhone 6). Minis 2 & 3 had A7.
- 2GB of RAM, up from 1GB
- It's thinner and lighter
- Laminated display. Basically they removed a layer between the glass and the display itself. It's hard to explain the effect of this if you haven't seen it, but everything is just more... "There".
- Better colour reproduction
- Better cameras

Bottom line: the Mini 4 is basically a smaller Air 2, just with a dual core A8 instead of a tri core A8X.

The large number of improvements offered by the Mini 4 are why I suspect there won't be a significant Mini upgrade this fall. I think that the Mini might be moving to more of a 2 year upgrade cycle. Maybe a superficial upgrade this year, or just a price cut for the Mini 4, because it's odd that it's the same price as the Air 2.

I hope there is a new mini but if there is it will still be sub par like the others.

Not having the latest generation chip doesn't make it sub par. Instead of comparing the Mini to the larger iPads which have the advantage of being larger, meaning a bigger battery, more surface area to dissipate head, and of course a higher price, it should be compared to other 8" tablets on the market.

I am so sorry to hear that your mini is sub par. I happen to have a most excellent iPad Mini 4 which is far from being sub par. It is the perfect size for me and has never performed poorly.
It may not do everything it's big brother can do, but his big brother cannot fit in my pocket and go with me everywhere I go.

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better myself. For many of us, its size is its most important quality. Personally I'd never want to give that up, even if it means a slightly better processor or something. Which is exactly why I went for a mini 4 over one of the larger iPads. They of course do many, many things well, but they don't fit in my bag as easily as the mini. :)

I really do hope Apple brings out a new Mini this year. Like others have mentioned, its size is its best quality to me. I still have the Mini 2 and if no Mini 5 materializes this year I may just go for the Mini 4 when its time to update.

There is very little stopping Apple making the iPad Mini as good as the larger iPads, or at least closer. The Mini 2 was nearly the same as the Air 1 in performance. The other generations were less so because of cost saving, possibly also the A6X was not suitable for the Mini.
