Smaller bezels/bigger screen, magnetically attached pencil, smart connector for a keyboard, all in a lightweight package…Aaaaah nerdgasm!

I only ask for one thing. The ability for an iPad (any iPad) to support a phone number. I would love to get rid of my phone and use just an apple watch. But have to have a phone (with phone number) to use the calling feature on watch. I don't have a watch or an iPad as I have been waiting on this one singular feature to buy either. Still rocking my iPhone 6s and running ios15 beta... LOL
I have no issues if the iPad mini finally broke that wall between a phone and a tablet. Yes you could make calls on it or the watch it is paired with. Heck the Alan Kay's knowledge navigator represented that, yet Apple decades later is still stuck on fixed designs for smartphones.

The new Ipad mini looks really beautiful, basically a smaller version of the Ipad Air 4. I reckon it will get the A15 bionic which makes sense, why would they put in the previous gen A14?!?
To keep costs down would be Apple’s #1 reason. Maybe another reason could be to push some people on the fence between the iPad mini 6 and upgraded iPad Air 5 with an A15 to buy the more expensive Air 5. Based on Apple’s history with the iPad mini, I give the A14 a 75% chance, A15 a 24% chance and the A13 a 1% chance. With RAM, 99% chance of 4GB and 1% chance of 6GB.

No iPad Mini this year. iPad Mini and iPhone SE are backup models when the mainline sold badly. Do we hear bad news from iPhone12 series? No.

I beg you Apple!!! Please no USB-C. An iPad Mini should still have the same connector as the iPhone so that you only have to take ONE cable with you when you travel! Outdoor people will appreciate that!

I partly agree. I am an outdoorsy guy too. I travel a lot & usually bring an iPad & iphone. I would prefer to carry only one charger & cable to charge both devices. Actually i hope the mini does get USB-C ….but also hope that the new iPhone does too.

Been eyeing one up as a secondary note taker on goodnotes (primarily) to my 12.9 IPP for some time. Personally would prefer it to use the same pencil, but I suspect I’m in the minority here, and introducing another pencil wouldn’t surprise me with Apple!

I can fit my iPad mini 5 in my front jeans pocket so I'm fine with the size. I am considering getting the iPhone 13 mini because I have an iPad mini 5. I'm also considering the iPad mini 6 (if it is real). Having an iPad mini available means that I can go with a smaller phone and use the mini when I need a bigger screen. I want to go with a smaller phone because I'm a runner and size and weight are a factor when running. I'm coming from a 7+ so the 7+ will be my backup phone so I will have that available too.

Another highly anticipated product of this year. I’m sure many people are waiting for the iPad mini.
Yes, I am very keen to get a tablet this year and this will compliment my iPhone 12 very well. Using the iPad mini in the house and my iPhone 12 out and about. Perfect.

I basically replaced my mini with the 12 Pro Max. I kind of have a hard time seeing how a mini that fits in the pocket would be that much different. Maybe I’m just not using apps that would highlight the differences enough.
I suppose it'd be cheaper? But obviously Apple is never going to release something like that.

This is peaking my interest, may have to put one on my birthday list next year. So long as it supports the Apple Pencil 2. I need a new computer more then replacing my iPad Pro which is a bit tired now. So a new Mini might be just the ticket.

A decent upgrade, but I will probably stick with the excellent iPad 5, as I really like the comfort of the rounded edges for handholding and for the basic stuff I use it for (reading books, light gaming), comfort is probably more important than speed or a small change to screen size.

Well the Mini 5 and Air 3 were both released around the same time with the same specs (A12, 3 GB RAM etc), so the Mini 6 should get the most up to date chip at the time of its release you would have thought, but I guess we will see. If it gets the A14 its still fine of course, as its such a powerful chip.

I still find the performance of my iPad mini 5 to be really good. I cannot say that I need a mini 6 but I think that my wife would be very happy with the mini 5 to supplement her iPhone at home.
I am in a similar position. like my iPad mini 5 - great for work Zoom cals, good eBook reader, reasonable web browsing experience.

My wife has an iPad mini 4 that she loves and uses extensively, to the point that the battery is starting to need recharging sooner (but still usable).

My guess is that when the battery life gets poor on the wife's iPad mini that I will give my mini 5 and either get an iPad mini 6 (if it gets released and looks good to me), an iPad Air, or an 11" iPad Pro.

The iPad mini has been largely the same since it was first introduced in 2012. It's had the same thick bezels and Home button across all five of its refreshes, but that's set to change with the debut of the iPad mini 6.

Design

The iPad mini 6 will nix the Home button and adopt a design that's similar to the iPad Air with a larger edge-to-edge display with slimmed down bezels that measures in at somewhere around 8.3 to 9 inches.

With no Home button, the iPad mini 6 is expected to get the same Touch ID power button as the iPad Air, but it's not yet clear whether it will get a USB-C port or continue to use Lightning. It could also include a Smart Connector for use with accessories like the Magic Keyboard.

Based on a case maker's mockup that leaked in August, the iPad mini 6 could have volume buttons located at the top of the tablet rather than at the right side, which would be a major design change.

Renders

Leaker Jon Prosser shared renders of what the iPad mini will allegedly look like. It features an edge-to-edge display and a USB-C port.

Prosser says that the iPad mini will measure in at 206.3mm x 137.8mm x 6.1mm, and he claims that it will come with a new, smaller Apple Pencil.

Processor

Rumors suggest the iPad mini 6 will feature an A14 chip, which is the chip that's used in the iPhone 12 lineup.

Mini-LED Display?

Back in 2020, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple was working on an iPad mini with an LED display, a device he expected to launch late in the year. That didn't happen, and mini-LED rumors died down until DigiTimes said in July 2021 that the iPad mini 6 would feature a mini-LED display.

Unfortunately, display analyst Ross Young believes DigiTimes' information is inaccurate, and he says that the iPad mini 6 will not include a mini-LED display, which perhaps makes sense because right now, mini-LED is limited to the highest-end iPad Pro model and the iPad mini is offered at a much more affordable price tag.

Young said that he spoke to Radiant Opto-Electronics, the supplier that DigiTimes claimed would be manufacturing the display. Mini-LED technology would allow for thinner and lighter product designs while also offering good wide color gamut performance, high contrast and HDR, and local dimming, which dims the backlight behind black areas of the screen while keeping bright parts lit.

Release Date

The iPad mini 6 is set to be released this fall, but a specific launch date hasn't been nailed down yet. Apple is going to hold an event in September to unveil the iPhone 13 and the Apple Watch Series 7, but the iPad mini 6 is likely to come later.

Apple is expected to hold multiple fall events this year, so we could see the iPad mini 6 in October or November.

How do we k ow the power button is at the top? With no home button, the top is subjective, isn't it?

I can't wait for this. I do hope it has USB-C so I can use the same charging cable every device I own except for my iPhone uses (which I charge wirelessly). Will be getting rid of my iPad Mini 5 and iPad Pro 11 (previous model) for this. Already have a dedicated monitor, keyboard and mouse to use with it. The 5G speed boost is going to be huge and I may very well replace my iPhone with this too (in terms of general usage, will still need a phone). The Mini really is the perfect size. Don't care if it has FaceID or the power button TouchID sensor... both would be ideal. Just need less bezel and a much brighter screen to make it perfect.

I want to use my as a travel pad and a car Nav screen. I hate my car's nav software.

With a redesign, all will love the mini even more. I am sure it will sell in huge numbers.

Get one of those cables that does both.
