If you own stock in Apple then yes, it does matter.

Your post didn't seem to be much about if you own stock in Apple. It seemed more like a post wishing an item sold out and didn't. I don't own stock in Apple so I wouldn't know anything about it so if you do, I didn't mean to invalidate your post.

Stock holders need a return on investment so its more beneficial to keep those cash registers ringing.

I think Apple's stock is taking a hit because they don't have iPhone 5 in quantity, they aren't selling iMacs now because the new ones are coming.

The mini won't be a bust compared to everyone else, but it will be based on Apple's standards.

I do not think that the buying public is that gullible. There is no way that the mini will remain this way for 1 entire year.

Innovation at Apple is slowing down. They are so focused on iterating and perfecting that they are using up their social capital. It's like giving some genius space and freedom to work, as slowly as they need. But after a year or two of little to show, your faith goes down and questions start to creep in.

They could make a luxurious ipad mini. The current one is not that. The problem lies in the fact that Apple is calling it luxury when it is clearly not. The innards are behind the times and almost 2 years old. Apple must think that their lead is so great that people are going to buy 2 yr old hardware. It looks like corporate arrogance to me; I will be much more forgiving when the true cost of manufacturing an ipad mini comes to light. If it's $199 or so, then I can understand. Apple does not need to sell the mini at cost like Google and Amazon do. But if the cost comes in at like $100 to manufacture, I do not believe that there was much r&d spent to build the ipad mini to justify the high markup. At all. I hope that the public at large gets the fact that they are being robbed.

So its a bust because the preorders to did not sell out? That doesn't seem like the best logic to apply to the situation.

What happens if apple made 1 million iPad minis in preparation?

I think a lot of people are taking a wait and see attitude. They would really like to see the mini before deciding whether to buy one. I've ordered a 16GB black mini to replace my iPad 1, but I don't know for sure if I will keep it. I want to spend a little time playing with it. I have some concerns about the smaller screen working okay with the websites I frequent. If it proves to be too small I plan on returning it and getting an iPad 4.

iPad 3 wasn't sold out, I walked into an Apple store at around 5PM on launch day and bought one, no line at all.

Pre-orders aren't really a great indication as the amount available for preorders is not fixed. iPad might have only had 20,000 versus 100,000 for the mini, there is just no way of knowing until Apple releases sales numbers.

Will be interesting to see how they sell in stores during Christmas shopping season. Many think they will but with the price over $300, I'm not so sure... not in the volumes of iPad's past.

Like HDTV sales have fallen flat,
could be most who wanted a tablet have one, at least those priced over $300?

It's too early to tell just yet, I'm sure they made alot for the holiday season and that's why they are not sold out.

The mini is going to be a great refurb store device. When they start hitting the clearance section next year I suspect they'll get snapped up quickly.
