Wouldn't it be interesting if tomorrow comes and goes and no invitations go out. From a personal standpoint, I almost wish it would happen. I'm ready to buy a Nexus 7 now and the mini is just confusing my decision making process. It's much easier to make a decision on buying something if there are no other options.

The design change is quite a big one. The new iPad Mini will be a 17 inch device with a hyper retina braille display. The announcements going out tomorrow are not for the iPad Mini, they are for the iPhone 6 that should hit shelves on the day after Thanksgiving.

They don't. It's not intended for people like you.

It's intended for people who would otherwise buy a Nexus or a Kindle or any of the other cheap 7 inchers out there.

If you had 3 kids all wanting a tablet for Christmas and you were on a budget so you couldn't afford to get them all an iPad you would understand.

Well, I guess then price is the determining factor... can't you get a nexus tablet or something for a really good price these days? (Honestly don't know and haven't looked it up)

I don't know about US pricing but in the UK the Nexus and the Kindle Fire 7 inchers are around £200. The iPad 3 starts at £399 so I would expect the iPad Mini to sell here for £249 for 16GB version and £299 for 32GB version Wifi only. Apple will probably use the much better array of content available on the iTunes Store as a differentiating factor hence the higher price.

That would also fall into line with the new iPod touch pricing which is £249 for 32GB and £329 for 64GB (which I think is way too high for the current market).

Stunning unexpected news. iChanges abound.

Will it ever end?

Was Samsung sniffing around?

Is their a new legal assault in the works?

Apple Inc. Never a dull moment!

Honestly, are people interested in an iPad mini?

I've got an iPhone 5 and an 3rd gen iPad... How does Apple intend to position this product to a consumer like me?

(legit question is legit)

"How does Apple intend to position this product to a consumer like me?"

The answer is, they don't. It's not for you. It's for those of us who can't justify buying an iPad3. It's also a more compelling alternative to the Kindle and other low priced tablets.

Every company benefits from having an entry-level product to offer to get buyers at all price points in the door. Toyota has the Yaris and Corolla. Apple has the iPod Touch and soon the mini.

This article is a big:

There's hardly any part leaks for the rumoured iPad Mini. Totally not enough information out there to spend all that money on case designs. And we all have no idea what Apple is doing or not doing surrounding the iPad Mini. Simply not enough substantial rumours about it yet.

$299 for either the iPod or the iPad Mini.

Is this all a SWAG or do you have inside knowledge?

A prediction based on these thoughts:

1) Apple's entire reason for creating a small iPad is to fight the 7" Android tablets. Tim Cook has specifically said that Apple won't leave a "price umbrella" where cheap tablets can safely live.

When you have the CEO telling you their plan outright, it's good to take that into account.

This alone narrows us down to the $150 - $350 range.

2) But let's keep shaving. On the high end I don't think Apple will go so close to the iPad 2 ($399) and at the low end I don't think they feel the need to match the Kindle Fire's price since the iPad Mini will have a bigger screen and the Apple App store.

Thus, I think the iPad Mini price range will be between $199 - $299. So that's my real guess...that range. So why do I pick $299 as my more specific guess?

3) It would create these nice clean prices for iPads. Not proof but worth thinking about given that this IS Apple we're talking about.
$299 - Mini
$399 - Last Year's
$499 - This Year's

That kind of structure appeals to Apple.

4) ...and finally, Apple does love their 30%+ profit margins. Even when making a 'cheap' product I really see Apple going for $299 because, frankly, they can. An iPad at that price will still out-sell a small Android tablet that costs $199 (we know this because the $499 iPad has been out-selling them), so why wouldn't Apple take the higher price?

No proof here, but based on all this I'd be surprised if the iPad Mini costs anything other than $199 to $299.

No, $299 for either the iPod or the iPad Mini.

iPod gives you retina and more drive space.
iPad Mini gives you more room to work but less resolution and less storage space.

Your choice, same price.

$299 is too low and cheapens the brand. $399 is the perfect price replacing the iPad 2 as the most affordable iPad model.

a) The Kindle Fire costs $159. b) Tim Cook has said they're not going to leave a price umbrella.

You're right that Apple doesn't ever want to sell at bottom-of-the-barrel prices (see: laptops), but I can't reconcile these 2 facts with a $399 iPad Mini.

They're not going to leave it or they're not going to create it? They have indeed created it; I think that is what you're saying, right? To that point, I fully agree. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see a $200 iPad Mini.

Looking closer I see the quote was specifically about the iPhone, but I see no reason why they'd treat the iPad any differently. The iPhone took the path of adding cheaper models as time went by, thus closing the gap that had existed at launch. I'm betting the plan for the iPad is the same. So yes, there's currently a gap, and yes, I believe the iPad Mini is being created solely to close it.

Tim Cook doesn't get Apple. If he sells a $299 iPad, Apple are finished.

The leaks have been much less accurate for the iPad Mini, which is being produced in Brazil. This suggests to me they are more honourable in keeping NDA, or being closer to home that Apple have a tighter grip on leaks.

I wonder if Apple will shift new products on initial launch to Brazil in the future if it means better control of leaks?

He's not selling it yet.

And who knows, if Apple is selling it, success could be inevitable. The iSheep will buy anything with said logo, remember?

We should have our first clue within the next eight hours. After all DeWitt said they will be sending invites out today.

Disagree. Think there are production issues ...waiting a bit more, but guess will be out for the holidays.
