The Next Web is reporting that the rumored iPad Mini event scheduled for October 23rd will have a heavy focus on iBooks. The iPad Mini will be aimed at smaller tablets like the Kindle Fire, that are generally used to consume content including books and movies.
In what will likely be completely unsurprising news to many, we've now heard from multiple sources that Apple's as-yet-unannounced iPad mini event will have a strong focus on iBooks. Since an iPad mini would likely be squarely aimed at those who wish to partake of media on their tablets, that would make a lot of sense.
Apple executive Eddy Cue said in an email released during the Apple v. Samsung trial that he "found email, books, Facebook and video very compelling" on a 7-inch Samsung Galaxy tablet. It seems likely that Apple will focus on similar uses for the iPad Mini.

All about iBooks? I hope they take the faux wood even further!

Make sense. I'd prefer a book on a smaller 7.85" tablet than 9.7". This could be a hit for kids not wanting to carry the 9.7" tablet. Parents will love this!

Please let this mean iBooks 3.0. I kinda want some really cool new innovations in that app. It'd be really cool if ebooks were completely reimagined.

I want to hear that we can "loan" out books like can be done with Amazon and Kindle. The bookstore needs more books as well. Too many times I cannot find the one I am looking for and go to Amazon instead. Not a big deal for me, but it is for Apple.

Good luck with that at. Kindle's can be read outdoors in the brightest sunlight. iPad screens can barely be seen even on a cloudy day. Amazon's Kindle and their book selection owns iBooks.

But wont a 7 inch iPad make zombie Steve rise from the grave and wreck terrible vengeance on those who didn't heed his warning that nobody wanted a 7 inch device ?

Obviously THIS is the event the mayans predicted would be the end of the world, as Tim announces a 7 inch iPad to the world, zombie Steve arises to eradicate mankind from the planet and replace Humanity with iHumanity modelled in his own image..

Or maybe its late and I've had too much caffeine and sugar

It better not appear as crapware in ios 6.1 and while there at it I hope they remove news stand from ios and make it an optional download in the app store.

They were reimagined. Interactive text with audio and video. 3D and engaging elements.

the reason i got a kindle after my new iPad was mostly due to the fact that i couldnt read shiat on the iPad outside and that my focus would drift away from reading after 5 mins cuz the iPad does too many other entertaining things ^^

plus better battery life

basic kindle for books
else iPad

Technically it is really an 8 inch iPad though, which is over 30% larger than the 7 inch in area and rather essential in making the touch target an identical size to iPhone.

I'm more curious about the weight and the thickness. If it's really close to the thickness of the iPod Touch and very light, Apple might really emphasize those points and pitch it as a Kindle alternative, not that e-ink lovers will switch.

And every single one of those books can be read on any platform.

I don't know who all these people are with nothing better to do than read in bright sunlight.
