So does this mean retina screen ?

it is actually the opposite, competitive price means means either $249 or $299 that relates to cheaper part 1024x768

many of us still uses iPad, iPad 2 @ 1024x768 - I do think the resolution is fine enough.

iPad mini $299 8GB - prediction

8GB Tablet is dead on arrival - Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos; I hope it really starts at 16GB

Still not a believer
come back here on Monday, or the following Monday or the following Monday :p

However, I believe his point was, if it's going to be focused as a primarily a reading (and video) device, it should have nothing less than a retina display, and I agree that it should.

I'm hoping it's like the current iPad only smaller. I love my iPad but having it smaller and being able to do what the current iPad can do would be AWESOME!

So agree. My two main sticking points for being interested in a mini is that it at least comes with a retina display and up to 64GB of storage.

Want phone app. I only talk on headset. Wish I could replace iPhone with iPad mini.... never gonna happen

I hope they release an iBooks for Mac at the same time. And a 13" rMBP (although I'll be waiting for Haswell to upgrade).

If they want to push iBooks, how about an iBook reader app for OS X?? I mean, c'mon....you can buy an iBook on a Mac, you can even create an iBook on a Mac, but read one? Forget it.

Sticking with Kindle books for now. Buy the book read it anywhere on almost any device. Switch from a PC to Mac? No problem. Switch from an iPhone to Android? No problem.

In the words of Seth Meyers, "Really Apple?....Really?"

But wont a 7 inch iPad make zombie Steve rise from the grave and wreck terrible vengeance on those who didn't heed his warning that nobody wanted a 7 inch device ?

Obviously THIS is the event the mayans predicted would be the end of the world, as Tim announces a 7 inch iPad to the world, zombie Steve arises to eradicate mankind from the planet and replace Humanity with iHumanity modelled in his own image..

Or maybe its late and I've had too much caffeine and sugar

For the 74th time, this is an 8" tablet. Yes, it makes a big difference.

My guess for storage size for the new iPad Mini is 16 GB and 32 GB.

To be in line with the competition, (Amazon and Nexus 7) who also just changed their storage sizes, (16 GB and new 32 GB(Nexus 7)), most likely the new Apple Mini 16 GB will probably be $199 and 32 GB will be $299. This is just an educated guess. Realistically it could also go $249 for 16 GB and $349 for 32GB. I really can't see them starting the lowest model at $300 price range, not when the competition is so much lower.

I guess we will find out in a few weeks.

I guess the ipad mini may not have the full ios 6, maybe a slightly different version. Something similar to difference between ipod nano and ipod touch.
ipad mini- books, e-mail, basic apps
new ipad- ipad mini + gaming, productivity apps

Although I always expected that an iPad Mini would mostly be regarded as a eReader thing, I really really hope that doesn't mean it might come with eInks. I don't care about Retina at all...but I need colors as wells as smooth operations instead of the sluggish eInk...for me this will be super important for pdfs and marking things in texts etc besides ebooks.

I'm not exactly thinking that Apple is going for eInk...this thought just hit me earlier today when I remembered somebody saying something about something completely new coming up this year...and the iBooks rumors fits somewhoe

Anyways...all those comparisons between eInk kindles and iPads (minis) miss the point, imho...there must be a reason there is an kindle fire...and it's selling well. Different people have different needs and tastes.

Is there any way we could convince someone going to this event to just ask about it?

I'll ask if I can get a guarantee that there won't be another off topic whine about the desktop line in every single thread until the event/announcement, when/if it happens. Deal?

Bring iBooks to the Mac. I should be able to read books I bought through iBooks on my Mac if I want to.

As long as you also ask about the 13" rmbp

Keep dreaming. From the company that bought you $20 USB cables and $30 adapters. And 8gig is nothing.

First off, IMO, the new iPad is going after the Kindle Reader Market. Not the Nexus 7.
As Apple, Google, Amazon move more and more data to the cloud through streaming you'll see less storage in devices.

IMO, the entry level Mini will be 16g, at $249.00 Wi-Fi. I don't think it will have Cellular. You have your iPhone for that, or your iPad 3.

If Apple really wants to jump in this segment they could price the entry model at $199. Apple makes almost nothing on the 16g iPhone 5. But huge margins on the 32 and 64. This could be marketed the same way. If you want to enter a market fast and establish a firm setting this would help.

Have to wait till the 23rd. :apple:
