Stolen things are sold on eBay all the time. But it could also be an inexperienced seller, trusting a forward auction will get enough bidders that a reserve isn't needed (or worth the fees). A sign of this is to ask an innocuous question and see if the seller shows regret somehow with the price/sale in their response.

The title doesn't even say iPad Mini in it...you are just going to get a box. Maybe a picture of an iPad Mini.

I don't care how cheap it is, but sellers who use titles like "FRee $hiPping" will never get my business. What are they, 5 years old?

Oh it's a "steal" alright... out of your pocket.

I am trying to sympathize with you here, but they didn't even put the name of the product in the title and threw in tons of characters to form words...

Hopefully PayPal will take pity and refund your money from this scammer.

But the description says new brand new iPad mini. I think he stole a credit card and bought 5 iPads and wanted to get rid of them quickly.

*Update*

It has been marked as shipped. He lives in the same state as me so it should get here in a day or two, if it's real that is. Either way it's covered under ebay buyer protection so I'll get my money back if it's a scam so not really worried about it.

It's going to be bad if you get a box with a printout of the auction page, or just a printout of the iPad Mini picture.

Saw that the seller has a -1 feedback as well. Sorry bud, all in favor of getting a good deal, but I don't think that's going to happen here.

Yeah, I think it'll be awesome if you receive it, but...

1) He now has (-1) total feedback
2) His username looks like jibberish
3) His item title is inane and doesn't even include "iPad Mini"
4) He has NO item description. There is only the catalog description which is forced by eBay onto sellers if one exists. Otherwise description would be blank.
5) Price was "Buy it Now" for $98

I'm sure I've missed some more red flags. Like you said, you can always file a claim and get your money back, so at your covered. Good luck and please keep us posted. For some odd reason, I'm intrigued...

EDIT: Just realized, you may have to put some forth some effort with PayPal, if he does actually send you something that shows delivery. I'm 100% sure you'd win, but you may have to send pics and such, and the dispute could take a while.

Yeah well I'll get it back eventually, I'm not hurting with $58.69 in limbo.

I don't even think he's going to ship you an empty box. It's more than likely the common 'take the money and run' paypal scam.

If that's the case, you'd actually be better off. All you have to do is wait a few days and your refund will automatically be sent to you when the buyer does not respond to the 'item not received' claim.

What would be worse if he countered your claim, and you had to go through the whole dispute process which is almost like a damn court trial.

Take it as a good learning experience, and next time you'll spot all the red flags.

Man, I hate it break it to you, but this guy scammed you, guaranteed.

Sellers account is less than 60 days old.

Only one feedback, and its negative!

He sold 5 of them!

If that's the case, you'd actually be better off, because you won't have to go through the a lengthy paypal dispute, like sellers do when a buy pulls an "item not as described" scam. You could get your refund and coupon credit back easily.

I can't believe you bought an iPad from a new seller with no feedback for such an insane price.

I know but I figured he used a stolen credit card and was trying too offload them ASAP and I was one of the first ones to see the auction. But yeah it's most likely a scam, all will be revealed in a couple days, I will keep all you updated.

Brand new iPad mini are $299 at Apple. Why are people paying over $250 for used ones on eBay?

Only tech savvy people know that. Normal ppl won't know about it until the ads start rolling out.

I don't think you have to be tech savvy for that. You just go to the website and see the price. It's not like apple is showing it for $329 and you have to put in a code to unlock the $299 price

$50 makes a difference for a lot of people, especially when you factor in tax is even more.

OP - Update???

I'm going to check my mail today after 6pm, when I get home from work. It says the estimated arrival day was yesterday but I haven't been home to check my mail in a few days. I will update you guys again later.

I know but I figured he used a stolen credit card...

You do realize that if this was the case, and the person was apprehended, and his computer was subpoenaed, and they came after the people he fenced the goods to thru ebay, and they subpoenaed YOUR computer, you just implicated yourself for all the world to see.

Everyone loves a good deal, but admitting that you willfully bought something under the assumption is was purchased with a stolen credit card is tempting fate my friend.
