i'd like to know this as well.

I realize that Verizon allows hotspots from their iPads (I believe) but presence of the hotspot feature in the settings doesn't mean it's an available feature. I have the same thing on my AT&T iPad but once switched on I get a pop up reminding me that I need to contact AT&T to enable this as I have unlimited data and its only available on shared data plans. Same thing with FaceTime.

It's free for Verizon iPad's.
I've used it on mine many times. I would imagine the mini would be the same seeing its running the same OS

Yeah, it works on my mini exactly like it does on my non-mini ipad.

As every other iOS device with the setting, it's only available to those who either a) subscribe to a tethering plan, or b) subscribe to a mobile share plan. This has been discussed to death. If you subscribe to tethering, or have mobile share, it will serve as an AT&T hotspot.

The hotspot feature is only available with verizon ipad mini. I think the mini for att, you need to call att to use the hotspot feature.

Hotspot and Facetime over Cellular data work from the get-go for Verizon.

Just picked up my Verizon 16gb White Mini at the Fedex office. It was scheduled for delivery tomorrow (16th) and I'm from Maui:D

This is one beautiful iPad! I agree with others, this will outsell the other iPads anytime!

I will be using this a lot more than my iPad 2 for sure.

Just got back from buying my i7 Mac Mini and had my iPad waiting on the counter! :)

AKA777, are you on the Verizon month-to-month prepaid plan activated on the iPad, or on a postpaid plan? The last time I looked on the Verizon web site, it was clear that a hotspot was available with the postpaid plan, but the information on the availability of the hotspot on the month-to-month prepaid plan was vague.

I just switched from a year of the Verizon month-to-month to the postpaid. Both have hotspot and FaceTime.

Prepaid. It's available on both.

Exactly. One of my employees has a note and love the tablet like functionality but hates using it as a phone.

Same can be said for iPad, it's neither a smartphone, nor a laptop, not particularly good at either, but that's just it, it's its own category and has its place.

Same can be said for iPhone, It's neither a good computer nor a phone (remember when phones just made calls and lasted more then a day?), again, mits own category, smartphone. Same can be said for the phablet, its made for a niche

It's it's own category, neither a smartphone nor a tablet, but rather, a smartphone with some benefits. Phablet. :) bit of an all rounder like the iPad mini.

I just got a Samsung Note 2....while I love the Ipad, Mini, and IPhone 5...the Note 2 is on a different level and I would LOVE if Apple did one that size!!

Good to hear. Definitely a market for it, because it's the largest size that you can fit into a pocket. I will never buy the rhetoric that smaller screens are better. I rarely use only a thumb and prefer to hold a device with one hand and operate it using another - for stability and security. Not to mention, every extra mm of screen real estate matters on a smartphone.

Here's a pic of the back of my black mini, FWIW.

the back looks awesome! but would you be able to take a shot of the front as well? i'm curious to see how the plastic antenna cover 'breaks' the diamond-cut chamfer at the front (all i've seen on the web so far are shots of the white mini from the front :p)

this... go pay n play

I don't know if these give you a better idea. If not, tell me how to line the shot up and I'll see what I can do. :)

It's really hard to get a front shot without mega glare when the screen is off. It's not so bad when the screen is on.

Mine is no different from my previous iPad or iPhone, Except that the speed test app looks horrible in x2 mode on the iPad mini screen.
This is actually benchmarking a little faster today than my iPhone 5, which is sitting right next to it.
