I don't think apple will be thinking of black friday as a release date, due to the fact they know already there is going to be a shortage, so they don't want/need to promote them.
The iPad Mini is bound to draw customers in-store, though, and some might just buy the Air so they don't go home empty-handed. :p

I hope It´s coming soon, I really miss my old iPad mini, that I sold to afford the new one!

the return window for the ipad air is 14 days. To curtail a barrage of returns from 1st/2nd/3rd day buyers of the air, Apple will make it available on the 23rd im sure.

I hope this isn't a repeat of last years 27 iMac released. Apple had similar screen issues with the new redesigned iMac "thin screen" on the 27 inch model.

And they promised "November availablity". And Apple kept their promise....yeah waited all the way till November 30th 2013 to finally make the 27 inch iMac for sale.

And if you didn't order within the first 10-12 hours of the 27 inch iMac (which are $2000 plus machines) than you probably didn't get your iMac till early 2014.

Now, we are talking about a much more popular base price $399 iPad mini. I suspect if you do not get your order in early, than you may be looking at early 2014 availability as well.

It should be pointed that if Apple is having screen quality issues with the iPad mini retina, it may be worth it to wait till January to order an iPad mini retina.

The iMac I ordered very early had a couple of minor dents on the top (they think it was due to the molding process of the thin screen) and I had to send it back to Apple for replacement. So I didn't get another iMac till last few days of December 2013 after Xmas.

I'm afraid there may be quality control issue with the retina iPad mini if supplies are as short as everyone says.

I just hope they actually tell us ahead of time so I can camp out properly for the darn thing. (On the internet not in line.)

Those of us who bought with personal pick up are seeing return dates of by Jan 7th. I'll be picking up a mini retina to compare and then decide which to keep.

FWIW: I was in Best Buy last night shopping for other stuff, and I decided to check out the Air. When I told an employee I was waiting for the Retina Mini, he said 11/21. I asked if he was sure, and he said yes.

It is a Best Buy employee, so take it with a grain of salt.

10/21? Last month before the announcement...

Actually if you buy an AIR now you have until sometime in January to return it due to the holiday return policy. I believe that applies to purchases from Nov 1 but I could be wrong on that date.

I hope this thing isn't harder to get than an iPad 2 was. That was an elusive mf'er.

OMG, me too! I've got nothing to read in bed! Would cycle through all my favourite sites, read a bit of a book etc. got a great price on eBay though (and it was 'scuffed').

Is it that much better than the Super Nintendo? I haven't owned a gaming console since the Super Nintendo, I don't think I am missing much though.

Naaah you're not missing much man. the PS4 is a very minimal improvement over Super Nintendo.
