Look, the Nexus 7 is heavier, bigger and probably doesn't feel as good to hold.

The iPad has a supposedly better battery life, bigger screen (but about the same size as the Nexus) and nearly 300k apps that are developed for that screen res.

Don't forget that the iPad also has a pretty good rear camera, which for some reason a lot of general consumers like having.

Yeah a lot of people will get the Nexus, but that's a pretty damn good price for the iPad.

The screen resolution is inferior on the Mini. The only reasons a sane person would buy a Mini over a Nexus 7

A. Love/tied into the Apple ecosystem
B. Have to have back facing camera
C. Have to have a Aluminium back.

Quad core means nothing, the iPad 2 is plenty slick.

And FYI I haven't held an iPad min or a Nexus 7, but Apple love making their products nice to hold.

I'm not saying the Nexus 7 isn't a fantastic price, but a lot of people will agree with the above.

It's not all about the hold...it's about the overall experience. $329 is too expensive for this! They could have thrown a 1280 x 800 screen at least.

I'm basing my claims on me owning a Nexus 7 and I'm an avid Apple user with and iPad 3.

Have you ever owned the Nexus 7? I guess not.

FYI: The Nexus 7 is a pleasure to hold, plastic or no plastic. It's fast (quad core), screen has a higher resolution, cheap!

Actually the N7 has 17 cores! It has a 5 core CPU (1 core is the low power processor) and a 12 core GPU. Runs just as smooth as my iPad3 and even has better performance (smoothness and graphics detail) on RipTide.

Let's think. It's 50% lighter, has the functionality of a Kindle (Minus the battery life, although I'd wager 13-15 hours of active use is likely possible without wifi or Bluetooth turned on) and has access to the same performance of an IPad 2. What's not to like? This is obviously targeting people that mainly want their tablets for books or who find the current Ipad to be too big. The IPad is too heavy for some (Kids/Students/ People that just want it for light reading?) 10 Hours of active reading (I'd wager more) with an A5 chip = competition killer. If you're primarily using your Ipad for reading, you won't care about retina display. Right? Performance wise, it is a significantly better device then the Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire, not to mention it has access to the same functionality of a device that's bigger, and significantly heavier. The A5 chip alone makes it worth it. They will sell 10 million by December 2012, and 60-70million by December 2013.

All of you people complaining are the reason for this silly drop in the stock. Think for a second, and apply some logic. This device is very useful and logical!!! Even for me, I find the IPad to be a bit big for casual reading. This device is perfect for my needs. I will also be buying an IPad 4 for things that require a bigger screen. I'm positive I am not alone. I guarantee we see upgrades tomorrow morning.

Just read the Anandtech review, the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip in Nexus 7 is actually faster than Apple A5 and in graphics is slightly behind A5. I don't understand why you must justify Apple's overpricing to make yourself feel better. Apple's products are overpriced, its a fact. Just leave it at that.

Maybe they enjoy using a lot of tablet specific apps as well? I know that there are a lot more of those on the iPad than the Google Store.

I think Apple's got the whole overall experience sector covered by this point lol.

I've got a Nexus and the hardware is roughly equivalent to the iPad Mini at a little over half the price. Enjoy paying the hefty Apple tax for a sub-par product!

Seriously, this product is a dog made from recycled specs. An A5 processor. Less dpi than its competitors. What in the world was Apple thinking?

Now, if they had put in an A6 processor and given us a Retina display at this price, then I wouldn't be calling them out on this. This was a huge mistake (as many of us predicted). Instead of tossing this DOA product at us, Apple should have put their money into making the iPod Touch a leading-edge product again. If someone wants access to the Apple appstore, I strongly recommend that (even in its under-specd/ over-priced condition), because at least it stands above the competition.

I agree on some of your points but when it comes to price. There are those that won't care about specs when you have a $429 32GB iPad mini vs a $249 32GB Nexus 7.

Think about it for a minute. The Nexus 7 is a cheap plastic toy with no Apps for it. Let me say that again. NO FREAKING APPS. Unless you like blown up phone apps that run like crap. It's a glorified email and web browser. If that is all you want then buy a Nexus7 or any other Android tablet. The ipad mini is thinner and lighter. Runs better than any Android tablet even with the iPad2 specs and has a couple hundred thousand apps that are built for it. I would say that is worth extra $100 you are going to pay for it.

Guess what though, most of the public does not know what a Galaxy Nexus is, despite seeing ads and commercials for it. People know iPad, geeks and idiots like us know these things, 99.9999% of the popualtion wants an iPad.

Well I guess we'll have to start letting people know about the Nexus 7 right?

I'm an Apple fanatic but the iPad Mini's specs (specially the screen), amidst the cheaper and better competition, just doesn't look right at this point.

I do love the advertisement shown at the presentation. And as a musician, that tickled my fancy. But I'm a well informed techie so I say, "nice try Apple."

Apple have made the Mini the lowest spec it could get away with and whacked a big price premium on it.

As someone that owns and uses both Android and iOS devices daily, I'm very well aware what each platform offers as well as the drawbacks. The argument is that people that are completely clueless really don't care about specs.

The Nexus 7 has the advantage of being cheaper and for a lot of people this is all that matters.

That's funny. I use apps on my Nexus 7 every day. Some of them are even many times better than their iOS counterparts (gasp!). Here is an example: Evernote. Evernote on Android blows me away. Want to watch some movies? Download a free app to watch in .avi if you'd like. And, guess what, the movies look great.

If you want to throw money at Apple, get an iPod Touch and maybe that will convince them to stop recycling old specs and put some money into a product people love, but refuse to buy, because Apple refuses to update it with the latest hardware anymore.

Also note that the Nexus 7 has GPS at all price points whereas you'd need an iPad with cellular for that feature.

Agree with all of the above. ^^^^^

Nexus 7 is looking more enticing by the minute. Over-priced, under-specced gear was never what apple was about. Shameful.

An iPod touch is not an iPad.

Unlike the Nexus 7 which just runs big phone apps.

I never said that the Nexus isn't a great price. I just personally, and I bet a lot of other people, will pay the premium for the extra build quality and eco system. It isn't for everyone, but for those people who want it it's going to cost them. We'll see how DOA this is in a few months after sales numbers are out I guess.

Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but the iPad is a big iPod Touch. The iPhone is an iPod Touch with connectivity. Yeah, I know a lot of people will get riled up about this, but I have owned all three, and that is exactly what they are. Heck, I even have my apps arranged exactly the same way in each one!

I don't even know what this means, but like I said, it has plenty of apps, and some of them are superior to iPad counterparts. Again, Android Evernote far surpasses iOS Evernote. Have you used a Nexus?

The build quality on the Nexus is wonderful, so I am not sure what the extra thing is with the iPad Mini. As I said, if you want access to the eco-system, the iPod Touch is way over-priced, but is at least more realistic for the product you are getting.

I get what you are saying. I am sure there will be people who buy it. But, I do not see how the iPad mini is well-priced. Two or three years ago with these specs? Maybe. But, today this category has stiff competition, and it doesn't make sense to release a product with these poor specs, especially at this price point.

I agree, the iPad Mini's pricing is a little steep, and I'm actually having a hard time deciding if I want to buy it or not. I have the money, but do I really want to spend $350 on it.

The iPad Mini has a bigger screen, a 5mp rear camera, of course it's (thinner/lighter), and you can't argue apple's design gives it a premium feel. iOS6 is doing a great job making dedicated apps to the iPad, and that is especially somewhere Android is lacking IMO.

No retina display sucks. As well, as the price point. And the fear of me buying this iPad Mini and in 6 months they update it with a new processor and retina display is definitely there. We all knew something was fishy when they titled the 3rd generation iPad "The New iPad."

The Nexus 7 has a great price point. You do get a lot of great specs for what you pay. Same with the Kindle fire. They both have better resolution screens, same strength processor or better, smaller screen (slightly), no rear camera, and well built OSs.

I don't currently have a tablet and think the iPad Mini would be a good move for me. I'm just worried Apple will update the iPad Mini and I will have the feeling I should have just waited for the "real iPad mini." Apple's ecosystem is important to me, I have an iPhone 5, and an iMac.

I guess I can't really ever see myself going back to Android, after having such a great experience with my iMac and iPhone(s). I really am a big fan of Amazon, but don't by much media off of Amazon. The question for me is, Do I buy the iPad Mini now, or wait another 6 months/Year for the new iPad Mini or iPad Mini 2?

You think I'm wrong, I think you're wrong.

Agree to disagree.

Personally, I would wait...I passed on the iPad 1 and waited for the 2 (which I am still using and very happy with)...this feels like same scenario...out of the gate, the iPad Mini feels very underwhelming....I think you're right to worry that the iPad Mini 2 will be significantly better - retina, faster, etc...

Well I guess we'll have to start letting people know about the Nexus 7 right?

That's GOOGLE's job...Not mine or yours or anyones, they have to win the puiblic. Besides, I have no dog in the fight, I just like technology no matter who makes it, I buy whats best for me!

I don't see the big deal people. everyone said the iPad 2 was a great deal at $399. So for $70 less you get it in a smaller form factor, lighter and redesigned much like the iPhone 5 plus a 5mp 1080p rear camera and Facetime HD camera....I think thats a pretty good deal. Now if you compare it to the Kindle Fire or Nexus 7. On price its going to look bad. but the specs aren't all THAT much different. A5 is a tiny bit slower then the N7 in CPU but faster in GPU. I think the screen will look fine even tho the PPI is lower.

Its $130 premium that gets you into the apple ecosystem but gets you better cameras and a better build quality and I think it will sell like wildfire.
